Danielle's accent is not cultivated, it's just that she tries to sound overly cute, like a child. The accent of Danielle and Hanni is not all that different but Danielle tries to put on the little girl, cute sound while Hanni just sounds like a normal girl at 20
Hello! Thank you for making a video about New Jeans Aussie members! But a couple of things: 1- Hanni's accent is 100% Melbourne, it sounds like she was born and raised here. 2- They both have a fairly general aussie accent, but if anything, I'd say Danielle's is broader than Hanni's
hmmm... I think that they just wanna say that Hanni clearly doesn't have any Viet accent as the video mentioned (bcz her Viet is not that good to have a Viet-accent in the way she speaks English). I've just read also Viet and English comments.
As a born and bred Australian living in Sydney - Danielle and Hanni both have the general accent, but Danielle's is stronger. Hanni just has more of what I like to call "multicultural urban" accent which has slight influences from Greek, Italian, Lebanese, Vietnamese, Indian immigrants. It's very Authentically Aussie though. Felix has the same too with the multicutural urban accent, but I would classify his accent as somewhere between General and Broad. Very Western Sydney though. Bang Chan is definitely a General accent, with that multicultural urban influence as well. Rosé is interesting, I think she's in-between General and Cultivated, but there's a lot of that "multicultural urban" and American influence in the way she talks. For instance her iconic line in Coachella As if it's your last performance. She pronounces 'last' like Americans. Also I can't remember where but she mentioned in a show: "somebody needs to go the the bathroom" and pronounced bathroom like an American.
As an Aussie but one with not nearly as many braincells to think about all this... You are 100% correct. Multicultural urban accent is such an apt term to describe pretty much most people I know lmao since I grew up in Inner Sydney.
@@jamnana2235 I'm Asian but for some reason I don't have it. It's the biggest mystery lol. Perhaps it's 'cause I'm from Upper North Shore and had a lot more white people around me??? There are times though when I spend enough time around people who do have it, subconsciously I get influenced and have a bit of that twang. But otherwise no. Yeah I have no clue lmao.
For Rose, I think it's because she hang out with her Asian American friends so much that her accent got influenced too haha. She's friends with Ashley from Ledies Code and Joan Kim (a UA-camr) and both are from America
When I first heard Danielle I thought she has a bit of a bogan accent lol definitely between general and broad like Felix from Stray Kids. I think Hanni has a general accent like Jake from Enhypen. Also Hanni is not fluent in Vietnamese, honestly her Korean is now better than her Vietnamese.
lol, as someone who speaks English more often, i would say hanni's Vietnamese has more australian accent and fairly almost no Vietnamese accent on her english, unless intentional. i guess, she even is more fluent now in Korean than Vietnamese. i don't know how you came up with her english having a bit of asian accent.
I just wanna add, Hanni has a super super cute accent when she speaks Vietnamese. I don't know how to describe it, and I don't say that just because I'm her fan.
Hanni definitely seems to have the general accent, but Danielle's isn't a cultivated one. It actually sounds closer to broad than Hanni's. I usually talk to lots of people with broad accent and her tone is closer to broad and general than the cultivated one
As a Vietnamese studying in Melbourne, I want to say Hanni doesn’t have any Vietnamese accent speaking English at all, her accent is very typical & similar to other Melbourne locals 😁. Hanni was born & grew up in Melbourne plus her spoken Vietnamese is not as fluent, so she actually has an aussie/western accent when she speaks Vietnamese haha
Im also Vietnamese who was born and raised in Ukraine. My a Vietnamese is not good and the funny thing is Hannis accent is also bad when speaking Vietnamese like me but a lot of media spreading fake news about her speaking Vietnamese fluently. The video of Hanni speaking Viet language they showed, she said it in a very bad foreign accent that "Im sorry I don't know Vietnamese well, but i just want to say thank you" because people keep saying fake news and pushing her to speak Viet language more so I think she said it to clarify with ppl
@napa5413 I visit my relatives in Vietnam often, yes you can clearly hear what she says, but can you not see that she was struggling when she said I'm sorry I can't speak Vietnamese well? I have some foreign Caucasian friends in Vietnam and when they speak Vietnamese, their accent is just like Hanni, I understand everything they say but still I can tell its not their native language. I feel bad for her that people push her too much because I was also pushed by my relatives in Vietnam. I understand that people want her to be closer to her parents culture but you have to understand most Viet kids grew up in other countries will be like Hanni, very rarely they will speak Vietnamese a lot unless EASY words with parents at home. I have some Viet friends in Ukraine and they all speak easy Viet but we think more like western while slowly getting to know our culture through food and stuffs. Parents work and we go to school and interact outside more so they don't have time to teach us proper Vietnamese. Visiting Vietnam a lot doesn't help unless you have Viet friends who you speak everyday using the language
Agree, I was a little bit annoyed with that comment. Hanni's English is native Melburnian, and very Aussie. She sounds most similar to Rose, also from Melbourne. Nobody would say Rose speaks English with a Korean accent bc her parents are ethnically Korean so why Hanni? Except Rose has more American influences now when she speaks, not surprising since she's mostly surrounded by English speakers with a North American accent. And as much as I love Danielle, her accent is not cultivated, it is more general with some broad instances. Her 'right now' is too strong to be cultivated or be even considered general. Depending on where you live (rural, small town, city, even diff parts of a city e.g. Western Sydney vs Eastern/Northern Sydney), your education/socio-eco background etc, you will hear different types of Aussie accents. Generally speaking (so there will be exceptions), ppl from rural or small towns, Sydney (esp Western Sydney), Brisbane will more likely speak with stronger general and broad accents than places like Melbourne, Adelaide and Canberra. I'm orig from Western Sydney, now working in Canberra and have relatives in Brisbane, and I definitely notice the difference betw places.
@lonil1412 yeah i totally agree with you. And in my opinion, the person who made this video is an Korean. That is why she has some ideas not make senses. I just felt a little bit annoyed with this video. It looks like this video wanna mention that even though Hanni was born and grown up in Australia, her English is not native Australian like Danniel, who has lived in Korean since she was a child.
New South Wales 아니면 Gold Coast 이쪽에서 살았나???
Yea nah, Danielle does not have a cultivated accent. Somewhere inbetween broad and general. Hanni has a general accent, but it is influence by the her multiculture ethnical area she came from. You'll find Vietnamese and Lebanese people have this kind of Australian accent.
This video is a bit incorrect. Danielle’s accent is definitely more broad, to be crude a bit more bogan (I don’t mean the negative connotations but you get the idea) than Hanni, who sounds like most Asian Australians. No way does Danielle sound like Cate Blanchett at all, in fact it’s very rare to encounter someone who speaks like Cate Blanchett in real life unless you mix with Easter suburbs groups but even then she speaks with a really unique quality that isn’t common at all
Dani definitely has something in between Broad and General. Not so much cultivated accent. I think among all the aussie idols she has the thickest aussie accent
I'm a little bit late get to know NewJeans because they are too young. When one of Hanni's video appear on Social Media speaking English. I immediately know She's from Melbourne because of that accent. I used to live in Melbourne and I have a lot of Vietnamese-Australian friends from Springvale and Doncaster. Then Danielle came in with that NSW's up and down tone intonation reminds me of my Australian Childhood friend's dad who spent 7 years in my hometown. They're from Newcastle and that's how they speak almost exactly the same with Danielle. While I enjoy their Song, really reminds me of early 2000's beat. Hanni and Danielle reminds me of my time in Melbourne and also my Aussie Childhood friend who used to live in my hometown for 7 years before they move back to Newcastle.
There are some points I'd like to correct, Hanni doesn't have a Vietnamese accent, she doesn't speak Vietnamese that well to have an accent. Instead she sounds like typical Asian Melbournese. She can speak very basic Vietnamese but with a cute foreign accent. As for Danielle, I don't think it's a cultivated accent.
Aussie Viet here like Hanni(I also live in Melbourne). I dont think Dani accent is cultivated at all. To my ears, she has a stronger general accent than Hanni. Hanni sounds like the Australia born Asian kids here in Melbourne. For your comparision, two examples of cultivated accent are actor Geoffrey Rush and Cate Blanchett. Actually, none of the mentioned idols has cultivated accent.
@@navis1527 I just listened to her speak Vietnamese and I can tell she rarely speaks Vietnamese. It was hard to understand her Vietnamese because it sounds very foreigner.
@@jennyni1124 You seem to be overseas South Vietnamese, it's understandable that you find Hanni's Vietnamese hard to understand. As a North Vietnamese from Hanoi, I find Hanni's Vietnamese almost perfect. She sounds like a native Hanoian sometimes and other times she has a foreign accent but it's never hard to understand at all because her pronunciation is good. Hanni said at home her parents conversed in Vietnamese and called her by her Vietnamese name.
Yeah when I first heard Danielle's accent I was like "Woah, there's a bit of bogan in there!". Also, not in a bad way because nothing wrong with being a bogan and they're awesome lol
Actually Hanni cannot speak Vietnamese much. She literally said in Vietnamese that I am sorry I cannot speak Vietnamese well … She was struggle to make the sentence and not even made a proper one. Not shameful anyone just to point out that her Vietnamese has nothing to do with her accent.
I don't hear any major difference in the accent of Dani and Hanni. What I do hear is their personalities coming out in the way they speak - Dani more bubbly, playful and young, Hanni more urban and "professional". Dani could not be confused with upper class British so you can't say she has a "cultivated accent".
I’m Viet and Hanni’s Aussie English DOES NOT have any Viet accent. She doesn’t speak Vietnamese well enough nor use it enough to have. Viet accent when she speaks English. That’s incorrect in your part.
Korean and Vietnamese news just spread fake rumors that she speaks Vietnamese fluently event tho in her recent video she said " I'm sorry I can't speak Vietnamese language well, but I just want to say thank you" she said it in a foreign accent clearly. Most Vietnamese lie that she was born in Vietnam and speaks the language well cause they are too proud someone from Vietnam is in hybe group and debuted. I trust whatever Hanni said and based on her accent not some news
Vietnamese accent has changed. My Northern Parents told me Hanni sounds like Vietnamese before 1980 in the North, but the modern Northern kids they talk to bow have a flat accent, the rich kids at least
True, I'm glad you said it, I was a bit reluctant to burst people's bubble that Danielle's accent sounds nothing close to cultivated like Cate Blanchett's but more towards the broad bogan end.
@@tuanchau330 If I'm translating you right, I will respond by saying I am not comparing a Korean- Australian with a Vietnamese (so apologies in advance if the translation is incorrect). I consider them both authentic Australians representing different parts of Australia. One is from Melbourne and the other from Newcastle. Hanni may be ethnicly Vietnamese from her parents but she was born, raised and educated in Australia. Her English is as native as Rose (who was born in NZ, raised and educated in Australia, but with Korean ancestry). Rose may be ethnicly Korean, but she is also a New Zealander by nationality, but with an Australian upbringing and therefore has an Australian accent. In that respect, Hanni is actually more Australian than Rose. Not everyone who is Australian is white, we are a very multicultural country with parentage and ancestry from all over the world. Only our Indigeneous peoples can really claim to be the First Australians. You may want to claim her to be soley Vietnamese, but she's not. She can be referred to as Vietnamese-Australian if you want to reference her ethnicity, but in Australia, she would be considered Australian. This is because a lot of Australians have different ethnic backgrounds. This is the same with Felix, Bang Chan and Lily - they are all Australians with Korean or mixed ethnicities. Felix and Lily's accents represent different parts of the country - Felix from Western Sydney and Lily from Marysville, a small town outside Melbourne. Danielle and Lily may be bi-racial with one white parent but that does not mean they are any more Australian than those with Asian/non-white migrant parentage or ancestry.

Yeah, danielle is more broad than cultivated.
@@saltyx4136 She has a weird mix of cultivated, broad and general. I guess that's Newcastle.
I agree.
Hi hanni 😊 btw maybe bcoz hanni speak viet at home
I love NewJeans and their accents 💙
Can you make a video on newjeans ditto mv and explore/explain the meaning of some of the scenes like the deer
1:58 Not really it just something you got to do for community mate its like you look after your mates and your mates all the way look after you.
As an ex-Aussie, both have General Aussie accents.
As a current Aussie I mostly agree with you but I would add that Danielle has a little bit of country "twang", Hanni is a little more city.
I agree with other fans who think hanni's voice is familiar to jennie's. Both of their voices very soft. I love them
Ditto is such a boppp
The way she says debut is because noone corrected her. Not because she has a hint of Vietnamese. She has the same accent as me. General Accenr.
Actually Hanni cannot speak Vietnamese much. She literally said in Vietnamese that I am sorry I cannot speak Vietnamese well … She was struggle to make the sentence and not even made a proper one. Not shameful anyone just to point out that her Vietnamese has nothing to do with her accent.
more cultivated!
I don't hear any major difference in the accent of Dani and Hanni. What I do hear is their personalities coming out in the way they speak - Dani more bubbly, playful and young, Hanni more urban and "professional". Dani could not be confused with upper class British so you can't say she has a "cultivated accent".
I think so.
You're good point.
Their accent reperests their personality.
Hanni so cute 🥰
HANNi HANNi ❤️♥️💘💘
Hanni & Danielle are both cuties with great vibes
deniels’s accent is just a typical general accent!!
Your channel is so informative, thank you!
Vietnamese accent has changed. My Northern Parents told me Hanni sounds like Vietnamese before 1980 in the North, but the modern Northern kids they talk to bow have a flat accent, the rich kids at least
Hanni sounds australian. Danielle sounds like she's been herding kangaroos her whole life.
True, I'm glad you said it, I was a bit reluctant to burst people's bubble that Danielle's accent sounds nothing close to cultivated like Cate Blanchett's but more towards the broad bogan end.
Also in case anyone's wondering I love her accent
NewJeans Hanni vs Danielle 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
Everyone, stream ditto now!!!
Let's make it on top
Ok
Yes there are 3 main dialects but many more variations depending on region, socio-economic class, ancestry, and life experience.

i do not think hanni has any vietnamese accent influencing her english, in my opinion

I thought Danielle sounds more like Steve Irwin, the crocodile man.
