I have a 14 years oldmare . She is suffering by laminitis. She was overweight, low exercise with bad hoofs. I feed them(mare and 3 old mules) alfa alfa hay all of ther lifes. Recently i fed them wheat bran and the other day my mare couldnt walk and diagnosed with laminitis. Which was the main reason? And what can i do. I injected voltaren and vetaflumex.
Stall rest, feed her an anti inflammatory medicine. Do not feed her grains or high sugar or high starch foods. Feed her low quality hay, and no treats. And keep her off pasture for the rest of her life.
it is impossible to know the exact cause that put her over the edge, as many horses are different. This is the website (they also have a FB page), that I would recommend for accurate information.
Great video Tracy, it’s such a huge topic that horse owners need to be better informed about and this is a good start.
thanks Jenny. Baby steps :) Hmmm, might need to come for a drive and do an 'interview' :) ??
