Great video! One of the better ones I've seen👍 Good luck out there 😊
@@joz4810 thanks
I appreciate that. I’ve done very little talking on camera before. But I’m learning 😊
You are good 😊 my girlfriend, and I will be doing the PCT in 2026. If everything goes to plan 😊 we are looking forward to following you on the trail, I hope there will be updates on your channel 😀
I’ve been hiking the PCT for 10 years. Here is my suggestion. Mail the following items to Mt. Laguna: 1 battery pack, umbrella, camp shoes, and some of your extra clothes. This should shave off a few pounds for the climb out of Hauser and Kitchen Creek up to Laguna. Then you could add the weight back if needed. I would include 1 pair of shorts as it gets hot here during the day in Southern Cal. If you can afford wind pants, they are lighter than tights and dry super fast vs tights. Your nursing experience is a huge plus on the trail. Hope to see you and your sister out there.
Appreciate your experience out there. What’s the longest distance you’ve done in any one year? What’s the longest & most water you’ve carried?
@ Don’t know total distance as we live out here in So. Cal. and I am hiking year round, PCT and otherwise. Most water I ever carried on the PCT I think was 3 liters due to dry camping. For years now on the PCT desert section, about 1 liter, sometimes 2 if it is late May or from Scissors Crossing to 3rd gate cache. There are many water sources not listed on Farout. The more gear you carry, the more food and water you will need, so that is why I recommend cutting weight to start. In the beginning, we have water at CLEEF, miles 2, 4, 12, and Hauser, esp. in March. If you cook all your food, you will need more water. I go stoveless. In the Sierras last year, I carried about 1/2 to 1 liter as water is super plentiful except higher up on the passes. Hope this helps.
@ it does help. Thank You.
@@sdsadventurerForgot to mention that if you live in a warmer climate, you will be more acclimated to drinking less water in the PCT Desert section. I also found that sea salt was amazing as my prime electrolyte for keeping the water in my cells longer.
The way I deal with hanging socks etc off my pack is safety pins. The kind folks use on diapers. Did you mention what your base weight will be?Good luck.
@@theskyehiker base weight is just under 17#. Safety pins is a perfect solution. I once used safety pins to pin my entire waist belt back to my pack. They can be very useful, don’t know why I never thought of that. Probably because I already had that clamp thing. Hmmm might be shedding a few ounces - thanks.
Good luck to you and Christy. I’ll be praying the whole time for your safety and your ability. Gonna be one difficult feet.
Thank you! All prayers appreciated! We will be praying as we go too.
Tips, depending on start date you might want to ship / pick up the micro spikes at Paradise Valley Cafe for San Jacinto, and in March there is a high chance of snow on the peaks around LA. You will need the bear can near Tahoe as they are required in Desolation Wilderness now.
Have fun ladies! My one suggestion if you’re heading out in March, it gets COLD in the desert! I couldn’t imagine not having a pot for coffee or tea! 🥶 Also, really recommend spikes leaving out of Paradise Valley! That section gets super sketchy with snow & ice. Have a blast, don’t underestimate the trail, or yourselves!
Thank you for the tips. Hopefully we will be ready for whatever comes. We have tried not having something hot in the mornings and it seems to be working OK.
@@livegrowexplore thank you! 😊
@@sdsadventurer worst case… I’ll have my stove and pot for something hot. I learned sharing in school.
@@ItsRubysMomsTurn😊
I'm hiking the PCT this year, too! Hope to see you!
Hope to meet you! And wishing you a wonderful hike!
Good luck and have fun out there!
Thank You.

Thank You! And thank you for the blue butterfly. We appreciate your support!
Looking forward to watching y’all’s journey.
@@bethanylacerda8871 thank you so much!
We are looking forward to sharing it! Thank you!
I'm also hiking the PCT this year, staring early April. Happy hiking!
@@ValsLife1 awesome! Happy trails to you! 😊
It’s getting close!!! Maybe we will meet along the way. Wishing you a wonderful hike!
Looking forward to following you and Kristie on the trail!
Thanks!! It’s coming up quickly now!
Lots of great gear. 😊 That looks like an awesome lightweight backpack. Love your shirt. I have the same one in the same design. We have Enlightened Equipment Quilts and love them. It's getting so close to your trip now. How exciting! Can't wait to watch those videos! ❤ Rachel
@@TheWanderingWulfs thanks so much Rachel! ❤️
I’ve never seen anyone else with this shirt. Now I’ll recognize you! I really like it.
@@sdsadventurerI love it! Is it an Outdoor Research?! I love mine. It's so lightweight and thin. I have this design that you have and a few other solid colors.
Great Information!! Most people dream or talk about their dreams, but you are doing it!!! Look forward to watching your journey :)..
@@KatFaile yes we are so excited to have this opportunity to hike the PCT and to do it together. 😊
You are so right!! We’ve talked & dreamed about for years - if we don’t try now we will never know what we can do!! We are going for it!
Good Luck on your hike !
Thank You for deciding to share your walk !
Thank you! We are excited to share it.
@@paganwayfarer thank you! 😊
Love gear list videos!!!!!! ❤ love it!!!!
@@jhayft0703 thank you! We enjoyed sharing everything we will be carrying with you!
@ I enjoyed it! Thank you!’n ❤️
Appreciate you watching! We have watched more than our share too 😂
Blessings on your hike Suzanne, and thank you for sharing your gear list! There's a possibility I will be out on trail this year as well starting in April. 🙏 One thing I felt compelled to mention is that I also switched to the Durston X-Mid Pro 2 last summer and it's a great tent but it does have a giant footprint. I am thinking of investing in the X-Mid Pro 1 instead just because the pro 2 will be limiting in terms of squeezing into tight spots. Just a thought for you. 👍😊
@@ronniwilde8067 thanks for the info. I’ve played around with pitching it in a skinny pitch for that very reason. 😊
I’ve heard others say that about the footprint size, but there seems to be a lot of them on trail the past 2 years. I’ve practiced a few skinny pitches too just in case.
@@heavenlyhikesandtravels241 Good to know! Maybe I need to practice doing that too so I don't have to buy another new tent. 👍😉 Thank you!
suzanne, you have done your home work! I cant think of a thing you havent thought out to take. I have zero advice. Just have fun!
❤
Love the rain skirt, that good buy as who wants to wear rain pants, not me. Packable chair is interesting.
Yes- rain pants get so wet with sweat I may as well be in the rain 😂
Just a note about the Litesmith chair: It's fragile. The very first time I used it (quite gently), one of the (very) thin uprights snapped, and the chair became useless.
Oh no! I’ll be aware and be careful. Thank you.
Nice pack out.
Thank you! Looking forward to meeting you!
@ same. I am sooooo excited 😛
@@ItsRubysMomsTurn dito!
I'm curious to know how you fit the bear can in this 50L pack. I brought home an REI Flash 55 hoping to trade it for my Gregory Deva 70 and I just couldn't fit everything in, (with the bear can). That said, most of what I have is on the UL side of things. AnywayI hope you and your sister have a fabulous time out there!!!
I have a BV475 (not listed on the Yosemite /PCT approved cans) and it fits upright or horizontal in the pack. I’m concerned a BV500 may not. I’m sure it will fit upright, I just question if I can get the rest of my things in too. But the 500 will strap securely on top if necessary. I carried the 475 in my Flash 55 in the Titcomb Basin this summer & it fit without any problems.
I used a 48L pack on the JMT and carried a BV500 the whole time and it worked fine. The longest food carry was 8 days.
I would use the bounce box method instead of carrying everything
Is there anything specifically in there that you would bounce? I feel like I’ll need all this stuff pretty regularly.
Pretty good kit! Almost the same as mine…(no chair, slightly less warm gear and a few pared down “others”) Start slowly, build slowly even if you feel great and think, “oh I just want to do a little more today.” Stress injuries can appear quickly out of nowhere if you push too much and don’t give your core and joints time to strengthen. Don’t carry too much food for the 1st 2 weeks….you’ll want to eat far less than what you’d ever imagine during that time!!!! Best of luck! (I can’t leave work until late June so I’ll be starting a flip from Ashland OR. 🦟 city but can’t be helped…Maybe we’ll cross paths out there!) What does your base weight come out at? Maybe I missed that?
Thank you for the great advice. And wishing you the best on your hike too! Base weight is just under 17lbs - I forgot to say when I did a re-take. How about your base weight? Sounds like you’re pretty dialed in.
Awsome stuff , have you done some shake down hikes ?
We have done backyard tests for cold & bad weather. Other than that the most I’ve been out is 2 nights at a time using and testing most everything I’m carrying.
@@Archonotrix we did several short trips last year testing out different pieces of gear.
@@heavenlyhikesandtravels241 ah I gotcha you’ll dial all that in even more as you go as someone who did some of the trail last year but blew out my knee and groin my only advice would be don’t rush or push to hard at first not that anyone asked lol wish you guys a great adventure happy trails
@ we definitely want to start slow.
@@Archonotrix appreciate that and any advice! Planning to start slow and pay attention to our bodies.
