THAT is my favorite SG model. I like the Special's sound better than the standard humbucker SG model. Notice how the neck pickup was moved about an inch towards the bridge? They did that to strengthen the neck joint, but it also moves it away from the 24th fret nodal point, where you get a harmonic. Some people erroneously think that made it so the pickup doesn't sound as good, but it actually improves the tone of the neck pickup when moved away from that nodal point. That's why some guitars and basses with pickups in weird places sound so good - like the one pickup Casino and ES330 guitars with the P-90 in the middle? Those sell for much less, and sound much better! I'm not an SG guy, but that's my favorite. I prefer Les Paul Specials, both single cuts and double cuts - single cuts are more stable, but with double-cuts you can bend the neck for effects!
That's pretty remarkable, especially the lack of checking on the body... I've a 67 Special and a 61 LP/SG. Just get a wide strap with the suede side inwards. Too much friction for it to nose dive... Thanks for sharing, listen we have all got odd families, everyone! Best, Pete.
Pete Townshend!!! This is my kind of guitar, this one looks like it's been loved and babied by your Dad , really really great guitar , I inherited my grandfather's 1968 Martin a couple of years ago, those family guitars are special
I love those guitars. I had one in the late '60s, but I didn't fully appreciate it at the time. I have played a couple '60s SG Specials that belong to friends of mine and it was fun. I have also owned two '59 or '60 LP specials, but they were both in bad shape. I enjoyed this video.
I mean, monetary value wise I get wanting the Les Paul but ignoring that SG’s are way cooler in my opinion. The neck dive some have never bothered me, they’ve been my favourite guitars as long as I’ve loved guitar.
Way more pete townshend than either of those dudes. Awesome special man . Glad you kept it for your dad and your memories. Good on you man. Would you say that has a wide slim neck towards the upper frets or baseball bat all the way. I'm curious how thin an actual 61 sg neck actually is compared to what gibson calls 60s slim taper. I just got a 2019 special which is a 61 or 62 reissue pretty much. As far as the neck joint and bevels go. I love it and the neck isn't as slim as I was afraid it was gonna be. I prefer the bigger necks. Both my les Paul's have baseball bats and my 2013 SG special with humbuckers has a pretty chunky neck. So gibson is all over the place as far as necks go. Just curious about an actual 61.
Glad you turned out so well!
nice job!
Thanks!
Awesome story. One killer axe!!!! EVH recorded with a Gibson SG Special. I’ve learned to really love SGs.
Thanks man!

Nice survivor. Good job.
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing the story, very cool!!
Thanks!
I had a 62 Les Paul/SG. It's the only guitar that I ever regretted selling.

That's a beautiful guitar that your dad has! 🤘
Man this is a gem
Thanks!
What a beautifully aged and well kept piece of history.
Thanks!

Awesome Guitar 🎸.
Thanks!
Sweet SG - great guitar. I inherited my dads 62 strat and princeton amp, i'll never part with it.
Awesome
Thanks!
👍
P90 sg is way more Iommi than Angus
Totally agree 👍

@@therover4141 definitely not a boat neck. It has a very slim profile.
If I had that SG I'd put some PAF 's in it and rock that play some AC/DC or sell it and buy a Les Paul already loaded with pafs
Not if it was my dads though
Ya, if you want to ruin it !
That’s like having an all original ‘69 Camero and swapping the motor
No, you don’t mess with a guitar like that
