  • In this tutorial, I explored abstract art using Hahnemuhle's watercolor sketchbook and Masha's Watercolors. After swatching out colors, I created diverse abstract backgrounds, revisiting them to add intentional marks and finishing touches. The process unfolds in a step-by-step journey, showcasing the versatility of Masha's Watercolors on the textured pages. Whether you're an experienced artist or just starting, join me in unlocking the secrets of transforming abstract bases into completed artworks.

I so agree, and I've done the same as you and now, at 73, I'm able to live as I like, treating myself well. It's a freedom I paid for with years of hard work and some sacrifice. It's paid off and I can now even be generous with my time, and money to help others in my community.

Yes! Financial advice. I work in credit reporting. And it can be complicated though there are easy to use tools that even the credit bureaus are offering directly to consumers- instead of just to banks or mortgage companies. Scores can be complicated since they are based on algorithms. But I agree that paying off big debts is a huge relief! Still try to find those easy tools because then you can take control over debt and personal finance it’s VERY empowering!!😊

Amen on the conversation. When my sis passed in 2020, my other sister and I received a small inheritance. In 2021, I used mine to finally move. Paid off ALL my debts, including IRS. I have no man, children, dog or cat, I cut up all credit cards and paid and closed the accounts. I have just a debit card. In 2022 I retired without any debt. And not going in that hole again. Now I just wanted to play with my art. Well,my eyes were big and I bought too much art supplies, which was fun for a while, but it wasn't fun seeing them not being used. So I gave alot to family members and donated. And I still have a lot. But as far as buying more supplies now, I just ask myself, 1st, ck to see if I already have it; 2nd, do I really need it, and 3 use what you got first. The small inheritance is gone and getting out that hole was a gift. Now 2024, Peace, of mind and having and giving Joy on this journey, is what matters most. ✌️👍

Delayed gratification. Pay as you go. People now a days think debt is normal. NO it should be temporary. I love your energy Denise and now i know why even more. Quit my job at 50 because I made double payments on my house to get out if debt. Drove my new truck for 20 years. Ultimately moved to a rather depressed part of Ohio to have lower taxes. I mostly stay home on my 20 acres so amenities are unimportant. Also did that all without a man. Nice to just flow with my day. I do travel some easily on the cheap at age 70.

I wish our society didn't ever normalize debt... it has put everyone in such a mess.. and when you teach people at a young age that debt is normal - they don't learn how to get out of it... and there are other ways to live that are better than being under a mountain of debt! So glad you enjoyed this! Thank you! 🥰

Ah, Denise…we are kindred spirits. My husband and I worked for 40 years to have a comfortable, debt-free retirement. As I age, I’m reassessing what I need and 2024 is the year I use what I have. If I’m really good (O.K. there is a little leeway here), I will reward myself with a Sketchbox subscription. I like that you support small businesses. These are great Denise! On Jan 1, I started doing a sketch a day...one sketchbook per month. I am loving it!
I’m so glad you talked about setting yourself up for the life you want. Great advise for the young artists. I am retired now, no mortgage, no car payment, one credit card (online use only...otherwise it’s cash) and paid off every month...that feeling of freedom is amazing. Delayed gratification is something that isn’t taught much today and took me decades to figure out.

I wouldn’t mind having a rich man if we truly loved each other for who we are. And you are so right about working hard to get debt free. It is absolutely empowering. It means you might have to practice delayed gratification, something that is anathema to credit card companies. After all, your interest payments are what makes them rich and powerful. Having our mortgage paid and no car payment (just like you) and paying off the card debt in full every month provides peace of mind that is incalculable. No matter what, as long as I pay my property taxes, NO ONE can take my home away from me. I would not do well as a homeless person! Now after all that, these pieces are fun and lovely. Did you notice how that first one you worked on looked like a dog head in profile gazing off to the right?

My husband and I worked our butts off to buy a home at a young age, raise our boys. Pay for their colleges without loans, now in our mid 60s we recently moved 5 years ago, no mortgage, lower taxes, which has allowed us to enjoy life at a younger age than most. While our friends did huge vacations bought fancy vehicles, we stayed on budget. In the end they are working longer and harder into their life span. Both my boys understand the value of money and staying on budget within your means. I say PREACH IT SISTER!!! LOL i just canceled my P. Pack monthly and keeping sketchbox. I became a believer of theirs after buying a couple older packs then your pack. Im hoping it will continue my monthly goal of trying something new and bringing out that creative energy. I love the idea of taking a sketchbook and making different beginning pieces to embellish later. I too am loving Klimt.❤

I really felt compelled to pay off our credit cards. With a small inheritance from my dad, I paid off all the cards. The next thing to tackle is our car payments. Our two daughters are now adults, so things are getting a little easier there, too. I am very, very frugal and dedicated to budgeting. I'm sure my husband wishes I weren't so stringent. No more credit for us! He will appreciate it some day, I hope.

That’s what I did too… paid off credit cards… then car… then condo. The sense of peace you have when you don’t have big bills is worth it… and the money you save not paying all that interest… can go to art supplies 🎨🤗😁

Denise, don't change who you are or how you are pursuing what makes you happy. Art is nourishing your soul and I am happy that you can explore it as much as you want without worrying about cost. We all learn to adapt to what our situations are and there exist many areas where we can research things for ourselves. We learn faster when we do the work. So keep on "Klimt-ing". 🥰

I sent them an email and asked if they could send me a nib or could I I pull the nib out of the ‘good’ pen when it was used up and put that nib into the one that didn’t have a nib. In just a few days a new pen arrived at my house. Really good company to work with.

I could get on a real estate rant too! It is crazy... I have an IRA with Fidelity.. and I was printing tax forms last week.. and saw a thing on their site saying "how much house can you afford"... so I was like ok... lets see... and I thought if I sell my condo and put that all in the new house... and only wanted about $1000 a month mortgage.. what could I get... and it said I could get $71,500 above what I put in in cash... and I thought WTF... That is $12,000 a year... $120,000 over 10 years, $360,000 over 30 years... for a $71k loan... that is like $290,000 extra you paid in interest... that is a lot of art supplies... so I guess I'll just stay where I am.. I keep redoing my office to match my current needs and just redid my photography wall this past weekend to pull all my books into my art room... I need to do a new tour. 😁
