Unfortunately in the italian dubbing that scream was a bit awkward
It felt very similar to when Heath’s Joker suddenly shouted ‘LOOK AT ME!’ In the Dark Knight interrogation scene.

The Riddlers appearance is just terrifying, I love this Riddler, he looks like the Zodiac killer, he taunts the police, doesn't leave his DNA on the crime scene and hides his identity, Paul Dano is just perfection for this role

@@grant5635 Why not Riddler’s design from Arkham Knight or something resembling that one? That looks way more realistic than the comic version AND you can still tell at a single glance that it’s supposed to be the Riddler-unlike this movie’s version who looks so far removed.
Say you show a picture this movie’s design to a casual Batman fan and you ask them “Who is this?”, I guarantee no one’s first response is going to be “That’s the Riddler.” But if you show a casual fan the Arkham Knight design for Riddler, they’ll know right away who it is. This comparison highlights the biggest problem with this movie’s design. It’s not like the Arkham Knight design exactly fails to match the tone of this movie, considering how dark Arkham Knight was as a game.
I'm convinced Riddler is the scariest Batman villain ever since Heath Ledger's Joker. He legitmately was unnerving in the movie.
Well they wanted to go with a Zodiac Killer vibe with him. And when I saw his unmasked face, I went "He looks like Jeffrey Dahlmer..."

Ledger's Joker was the kind of terrifying that would make you simply scared.
Dano's Riddler is the kind of terrifying that paralyzes you and makes your nerves claw at you, begging for escape from it.

The first scene of the riddler where he was at the mayor's house was terrifying the way he was just standing in the dark with the light reflecting from his glasses, matt reeves is just a genius making this character scary
This ENTIRE movie is a 10/10 MASTERPIECE! We have a batman movie where the best character in the film IS Batman/Bruce Wayne! Robert Pattinson is the BEST batman I've seen and he's PHENOMENAL as Batman AND Bruce Wayne entirely while still given him a new stylized look that's FANTASTIC to see! Love this movie to death as it's the BEST batman movie, felt like batman: the animated series BEAUTIFULLY brought to life with it's gorgeous Art Direction and aesthetics! MASTERPIECE of a film throughout!
I thought the first scene where he was looking into the mayors house with binoculars was batman but later on I knew it was the riddler because of his heavy breathing
I couldn’t take that scene seriously because in my head I just kept thinking

This movie did SUCH justice to the Riddler. He's my favorite Batman villain and always has been. I am so happy they did something fresh and exciting with him, while still being true to his roots. He was scary, a little goofy, and still allowed to ask riddles, leave puzzles and death traps...ugh. I'm so happy. And to top it all off, this movie came out on my f**king birthday. Couldn't have asked for a better present.
It came out a day after my birthday too! The best present. Loved this movie.
It also came out around my birthday(the 5th) and I saw it on my birthday. Amazing movie my favorite version of Riddler by far and probably my favorite Batman as well(if anything because it focused on his actual character aspects unlike most Batman movies.)

I love that the underlying, recurring main beats of this theme are extremely similar to "Ave Maria". The same song that the film opens on and Riddler himself references more than once throughout. Genius orchestration!

What makes it even cooler is that in the prequel novel, this is the song riddler is singing in the choir he’s in for Thomas Wayne’s mayoral candidacy announcement. Which is also the first time he meets Bruce. Everything about this movie is so well done!

Matt Reeves is gonna be to Riddler what Christopher Nolan was to Joker. He'll reinvent the character, making it more disturbing, psychological related and realistic grounded.
Going for a Zodiac sort of route which is not only refreshing but genius considering the Zodiac was a serial killer that taunted the police with encrypted messages and threats. Never to be caught to this day.

I love how Riddler's theme is the inverse of Batman's, it starts off melancholic and mysterious becomes grand and operatic in the middle section and then goes back to being calm and tragic before leaving you with a little haunting note at the end. Giachino's work on this film is utter GENIUS!

Not only that but the notes sound kinda like a twisted version of Batman’s theme. Batman’s has a steady, droning pattern to it even when it’s getting grander and louder. Riddler’s is never steady; it’s like the music is constantly asking a question.

8/10 Movie is great, but it's not a flawless masterpiece. More depth than The Dark Knight and bettetr atmosphere but Nolan's TDK is much more enjoyable.
@@theunknownuser9609 - Disagree. Outside of Batman Begins, Nolan’s films felt nothing like Batman, only crime dramas with ‘Batman’ slapped on top. And Dano’s Riddler absolutely matches Ledger’s Joker, which unsurprisingly was also matched by Phoenix.

I first noticed him in There Will Be Blood, then it's Prisoner, he's so captivating in the way he portrays characters that makes you uneasy.

A bit corny though, I honestly think Giachinno is a better composer even compared to Zimmer. But some parts of this song and the Batman theme are so corny and generic, wich is strange because the movie itself looks very fresh and unique

Would love to see Reeves take on Scarecrow. I feel like he could be a little similar to Riddler, taking inspiration from Batman himself with his focus on spreading fear. And at this point I'm convinced any score Giacchino puts together will be amazing.
I am REALLY hoping for scarecrow for the sequel, it would fit PERFECTLY with the story if this movie being about the use of fear, and now that batman is past that, having a villain who uses it to its most extreme would be awesome

The best live action Riddler for me. Despite how different his looks from the comics, he embodies the character. Intelligent, ego maniac and throws a tantrum when things doesn't go his way.
The WHOLE MOVIE was a the BEST LIVE ACTION version of Batman AND his world and characters as this WHOLE film was a 10/10 MASTERPIECE of a movie!
Imo the best part of Batman is seeing different takes on villains. Some Jokers are broken and desperate, others are cunning and calculated. Some Scarecrows are mad and childish, others are cold and bitter.
This Riddler is the first Riddler like him we've ever seen, but he's still absolutely the Riddler. No iconic green tux or cane, no smart-allackey quips, but still Riddler. He's arguably the best parts of the Riddler as a villain: terrifying, a constant threat, unpredictable and yet feels like a kind of force of nature in his own right. Stripped of the silliness present in most Riddlers, we get a borderline horror movie villain who sets about grand schemes that feel almost like they were meant to happen
He's a mastermind and barely spends any time actually in the presence of Batman. He loves puzzles and riddles, and bakes them into his plot. He has no physical strength and yet turns Gotham inside out basically on his own.

The Riddler turns out to be complete scene stealer, as soon as he appears. Paul Dano did an incredible job!
It's even better than that. The entire movie itself is stolen by this character, even when absent from the scene. During the movie, we are constantly reminded of the Riddler, whether by the dialogues or, and this is a more subtil detail, the music. All is needed is to play this eerie version of Ave Maria. And the Riddler is on everyone's mind. It's brilliant...and ominous.
How has Paul Dano not got an oscar nomination yet? One of the best actors of all time.
Maybe, like with Heath Ledger (though posthumously, sadly), the Academy Awards will recognize Paul Dano for his role here.
He should've got one for There Will Be Blood
Hard to get nominated or even win an award for being in a Superhero film unless you play an extremely complex character like Joker…either than that almost all the time they’ll never get acknowledged

3:02-3:13 the ever-so-slight trills in the trumpet section to the descent in the strings gives me chills. So unsettling. I love it!
Not technically a trill but rather flutter tonguing (essentially just a held note with a rolled r in the tongue to make it “growl”), but yes the effect is reallllly great

He’s done it again folks, Michael Giacchino has made another masterpiece. Just the suspense at the beginning dragged me in. It fits so well with with the the psychological crime thriller that this movie is. And at the middle when it seems to be calm, an explosive sound from the horns and strings make it seem that Riddler had just killed somebody or set off a bomb. This makes me excited to see how he will match wits with the caped crusader.

I love the contrast between this and batman's theme, Batman's feels somewhat hopeful, yet emotional and powerful, and The Riddler's is Erie, Dark and Sad, really an interesting insight into both characters, Michael Giacchino is a brilliant composer
Michael Giacchino is really channeling the spirit of Shirley Walker's musical direction on BTAS and blending it with his own style. Brilliant!
I'm not surprised Giacchino could tackle any Batman story characters' themes. Which concludes the fact that Catwoman should get one as well

Such a beautifully crafted character. Hands down, one of, if not, the best villain I've seen in a long while.
Listening to both Riddler and Batman's themes, clearly inspired by the work of Shirely Walker and seeing how Reeves chose to design his gothic, nightmarish Gotham I'm convinced that The Batman in many ways will be closest thing to a live-action adaptation of Batman: The Animated Series.
If only they delved more into the fantastical elements of the mythos rather than constantly trying to ground Batman more and more in his solo outings. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll get that perfect live-action counterpart to the tone, aesthetic and heart of the animated series and Arkham games
@@perfectbidoof7541 I'm sorry but the fantastical elements would be ridiculous in live action. Killer Croc, Man Bat, Mr. Freeze, these characters are just too over the top for live action. Gritty and grounded in real life is the way to go.
@Knighton Art Burton, Snyder. Closest we’ve got to TAS, and they both work. The Arkham games are literally the perfect template for films, they balance realistic grit with fantasy extremely well. I don’t know what world you’re living in to say something so ignorant of what’s come before, being Batman films and others beyond that do exactly what you say is “ridiculous”.

100% agreed, I actually think there's hope we might see the more fantastical elements and villains explored within this trilogy, for once we're already seeing how strongly inspired this film is by BTAS and the Arkham games in terms of Gotham's design which will be more gothic and art deco than a generic Chicago and the Batsuit which strongly resembles the one from Arkham Origins and Knight.
Secondly, Reeves said he wants his vision of Batman to be very different from what came before and I don't think you do that by just outdoing how gritty and "realistic" your trilogy will be. Plus we've seen Mr Freeze, Superman and Wonder Woman easter eggs on set of the film.

Disagree, Batman's world has always been a mixture of grounded, sci-fi and the supernatural and if Matt Reeves aims to create the definitive live-action version of the character then integrating those elements will be the way to go.

This has big Danny Elfman and Shirley Walker energy. Everyone knows Elfman, but Walker was the composer for the animated series.
What and incredible performance and theme. One of the most terrifying villains I’ve seen in a movie. Him talking to Batman in the prison was so unnerving.

How he suddenly screamed and leapt after Mitchell at the beginning pretty much sold the character for me. Paul Dano killed it.
The most Burton-esque/Elfman theme out there. It seems a mix between the Batman Forever soundtrack and Harry Potter. I've never imagined such a gothic atmosphere for this film.

Corey Michael Smith nailed riddler. Tragic story turned him into a psychopathic but extremely calculating and intelligent villain.
The fact that it’s basically a scary version of Ave Maria. Critics should give Michael more praise from now on if they haven’t already.
What makes this version of the Riddler so scary is because he's a nobody. He could be any one of us, under the right circumstances and it's only after he puts on the mask that he feels like that's his true self and able to unleash all that angry and fury of the cruel world.

We’re far passed comic accuracy. I’m a sucker when it comes to well done adapting. This movie is the living embodiment of what I expect a darker Batman universe to be. I want to see Batman really breaking skulls and the riddler being a real threat

The theme does so well telling who the riddler is and what he’s like. The lone choir boy to show his past, singing ave Maria in a minor chord to sound off. It’s sad and unnerving at the same time. Then it picks up, showing that even if he has a tragic past, he’s still the main threat. It sounds powerful yet chilling. Then it falls back to the lone choir boy, even slower this time, even more terrifying. This movie portrayed him perfectly even in his music.

Nolan’s trilogy had the best villain themes ever. Joker’s terrifying theme, Ra’s Al Ghuls ancient ritual type music, and Bane’s epic chant. This Riddler’s theme is up there with them

YES this is what I love, he uses really instruments not much electronics. I also I wasn’t the biggest fan of him in the past but lately I think he is finally finding how he can leave his mark on films scores because lately he has been killing it!

The Riddler was the ultimate villain because while he was a villain you could understand why he did what he did.
