I thought I had done everything right, but I'm now looking down the barrel of a fungus gnats infestation!! I purchased some of that mosquito bits and some yellow sticky fly traps. My question is, will the ultraviolet electric bug zappers work on funges gnats?

I purchased a bag of seed starting mix from one of the big online companies and don't want to waste the organic material provided for me. It is a peat moss based mix though so I'm curious if boiling the potential harm away will just be a waste of the money spent on getting a specific starting mix, or if I shouldn't view it like that at all. Great videos, I've been able to set up my own rack and light system can't wait to get home from work today and get my first peppers started.
I'm not sure but even if it does you can always add nutrients back into the soil. Plus you can still make use of what you already purchased by boiling it. Rather not deal with fungus gnats. Good luck.
I wouldnt view it that way. Starting mix should be sterile. Boiling water will kill living things but not any of the nutrients. Adding in the NPK is really the best way to do it for seed starting mix. You just dont need to spend up on it.

I think I finally understand why I have fungus gnats. I did EVERYTHING wrong.

How long can gnat eggs survive in dry soil? Sounds like months or years until the soil becomes damp???

I made the mistake of not boiling years back and never again. I can still see the gnats and the deteriorating of the plants
