I adore this version of what I consider to be one of the great numbers of its time -- and beyond. Though it might be said that Krupa's band was at the peak of its fame in '41-'42, after Roy Eldridge and Anita O'Day came aboard and the orch, in existence since '38, really took off -- but I consider the '45-'47 period to be equally good in terms of the band's overall sound and arrangements. Carolyn Grey, who succeeded Anita in her second, brief stint with the band, was about as appropriate a replacement as O'Day admirers (I'm enthusiastically among them) could dream up. Though by no means Anita's equal, Carolyn had a good beat, nice tone and a style that suited the outfit's jazz-oriented approach. Spectacular treatment, this!

It seems that we are once again on the same wavelength. I've long-considered this tune to be among the best that 40's Broadway has to offer. In fact,I recently found a post of Charlie Spivak, with a vocal by Margaret Manning,a previously unknown warbler, to me. The way she belts out those lyrics, well, you'd swear you were in the audience at the 46th Street Theater!

@@swingman5635 Oh, yes -- I think that's one of the Spivak band's best records; I have it on CD. Margaret was far superior to Irene Daye, Charlie's wife, IMO. ... And then, of course, there are Frank and Jo's versions from the '50s.

@@Trombonology Thanks for the recommendations. Those two are my favorite vocalists of both genders. Going to check those out!
