I've said it once, and I'll say it again, if someone can play a bad character and still compete with top-tiers, the low-tier will be infinitely better then the top-tier due to the sheer amount they would've had to overcome and how much they would've grown with their character
You can still grow and overcome with top tiers too

It’s an underdog dynamic, everyone loves it. To be completely honest, as someone who has mained low tier characters in fighting games (shinobi from for honour) and has gotten skilled enough with them to regularly dominate in matches, all that effort kinda goes to shit when faced up against someone who has worked just as hard as you but is using a relatively broken high tier. Of course that occurrence was so incredibly rare to the point that it never really bothered me but when it would happen it would almost feel pointless because you already know they’re gonna win. I’m sure the same would apply to competitive smash bros if exceptionally skillful player dedicated their life to utilizing Steve and perfecting the element to his fighting style which involves creativity and unpredictability that the character is known for. Not very many low tiers could stand up to that.
Not really a bad character if it can pull off cool stuff like this, now is it?

Ive been on the doc train since day 1, the longest end lag he has in on foward air, and its not even that bad, he has really good throws, a strong projectile that can true combo into a spike, one of the best down bs in the game (dude that thing legit covers so damn much if ur mashing), all of his moves either kill or combo into a kill, his out of shield is bs and barely punishable, and his cape is marios with a better hitbox

Fun fact: you can spam up b when you get pk fired and it puts out like 5 different active hitboxes of up b per second. If the ness runs into you for a grab, he takes like 60 damage and the up bs combo into eachother lmao. This works best when youre at backthrow percent and the ness really wants a grab. I learned to love the ness matchup :)
