    Roadtreks come with under the hood generators with a volt start system that can run the A/C for short periods on the lithium batteries. My dream rig

      I love that tech! Why oh why can't Airstream incorporate that into the Interstate?!?!?! Airstream... are you listening?

      that"s a good looking rig, should get decent mileage, you need to find a way to work camp, load up the pooch and hit the road, I drove truck for over 35 years and still never get tired of touring this country, stay camping my friend

    We just bought the 2018 Interstate Lounge! Love it! Thanks for your helpful info. Lot's to learn and figure out. FYI...we bought a king size mattress topper (2" foam/2"memory foam). Slept great!...the catch was there was NO rolling that thing back up...was 2x the size rolled up after opening😬! Going to have to get a memory foam only version!! Just Curious, Have you gotten Satellite for yours? Also, the 2018 has 3 solar panels now, so I'm waiting to see if I can leave the fridge running on the inverter with Solar back up until we head out again in a few days! I'm going to order the extra cup holder addition from Midwest Automotive and add it to the Airstream...that's one of two bummers I noticed in addition to no cup holder for the seat by the slider door. Could use more electronic hookups in the front too!!! I compute while my husband drives! What's the best way you've found to look up camp sites with great hookups? I'm only familiar with KOA. Thanks again for all the tips!

    • @Smedsters
      @Smedsters  7 років тому

      CoNgRaTuLaTiOnS Sandi! I was going to say... there is no way you're going to be able to store 4" of foam topper but I'm sure it was an awesome sleep! I have not invested in satellite as I've actually enjoyed some of the local over-the-air channels I've been getting with the antenna and, when available, watching DirecTVNow via my AT&T Wireless Service. Keep in mind that although you have 300 watts of solar, you still have the same capacity battery as I do with 100 watts of solar. The 3 solar panels you have will help charge the batteries faster during the day. With that said, if you leave the refrigerator/freezer on all night on battery power only, you might deplete them depending on how cold you have them set. I did this recently on my weekend trip... I turned the refrigerator/freezer on the night before while in my driveway so I'd have it nice and cold in the morning for my food and I completely drained the batteries. Lesson learned. I believe, however, that once the units have reached the correct temperature, they probably consume less battery power in order to maintain the temperature and this situation would not have occurred in such a short period of time.
      With the new multiplex wiring, is the thermometer only located in the control panel cabinet or is there one that can easily be accessed in the reach of the coach where you sleep?

      That's good to know! There is also a smaller panel above the TV in the rear that has controls. I would have to double check but I think it also controls the A/C.

    • @Smedsters
      @Smedsters  7 років тому

      +Sandi Blair ok good. I was worried there was only one thermostat location with the new multiplex wiring. If you get the opportunity to take a peak under the rig, let me know if you can spot the new resonator attached to the generator exhaust. I'm curious to know where Airstream located it..... closer to the end of the pipe exhaust or in the middle.

    • @sblair4674
      @sblair4674 7 років тому

      Well, I typed a reply but didn't see that it posted so please forgive if this ends up being attempt #2! Ha! There is another control panel in the back above the TV. It's just not as big. I'm pretty sure it also has A/C controls on that as well! I will check out the camp website you mentioned! Thanks!

    • @sblair4674
      @sblair4674 7 років тому

      Smedsters I will check tomorrow on the resonator. It's still seems load! We actually ran the generator all the way from Dallas back to Mississippi to keep it cool in the back where our daughter was riding. Still have over 60% propane. We noticed that it would get louder when we put on the breaks....little bit annoying. I'm going to talk to the guy at the dealership tomorrow to make sure that is normal and get the NAV updated. He said there were some "known" issues causing the screen to go in and out.

    Greatly appreciate your videos, as I'm looking at purchasing an Airstream Interstate. Looking at the new Interstate Nineteen. Was happy you shot the video with the A/C on so I could hear the noise level. Any chance you could do a video with the Generator on to hear the noise inside the Interstate? Every video on youtube has the generator from the outside, but not the noise level on the inside.

    Enjoyed the video but the music is haunting me. That female voice singing about Valerie keeps running in my head so I tried to find it. I gave up and can only hope you can let me know who it is. Thanks also for putting me onto Soundcloud.com.

      Great, found it. Thanks...I think! LOL I really liked your reaction to the "squatters" and their inconsiderate actions at the campgrounds. Reminds me of watching the disabled parking areas at my local McD's each morning.

    I have a problem. I love the new Roadtrek E-Trek system without the fossil fuel generator which I am against. I also love the finishing touches of the Airstream Interstate. I just wish I could get what I want. Winnebago I think has delivered that setup but now I find out that the Sprinter chassis has a brand new look and won't be available to 2019 so now I'm just waiting. I hope by then that Airstream has gotten rid of the fossil fuel generator and switched to the lithium-ion battery system and the under-the-hood generator system as the backup. I'm a very tech-minded person and don't enjoy being stuck with a system that is not efficient. In case your wondering I'm not in love with Roadtrek's traditional cabinetry. I prefer the sleek euro look.

    Thank you so much for your videos on the Airstream Interstate Grand Tour Ext (AIGTE), I really appreciate all of the info in your videos and hope you will continue to post. I purchased a previously owned 2016 AIGTE and have traveled to local areas in Arizona.
    You are so meticulous in details and I love your point of view! Thank you again for sharing. Teri

    Loved going on your walk through the beautiful woods. Very peaceful. Thank you. BTW, you probably should get the wireless camera you spoke of. I love being able to check out my house with phone while away or just when I don't want to answer the door. Safe travel.

      I recently purchased several Arlo Go wireless cameras for work that connect to the Verizon network for remote viewing and last a couple of months on a single charge! Once FedEx locates the package that they delivered to the wrong address and had some stranger sign for, I'll be able to test them out and see how well they work. Thanks for watching!

    You're over thinking. I often find myself as the only one in a park at night because people have reserved spaces they don't use which is unfortunate but true. I feel very safe.

    I see you still have those awful Airstream shades in the cab area, passenger side shade is not shading, LOL!!! We absolutely love our window shades that we got from HighEnd Motorsports and they really work well!
    We will remove both head rest and arm rest from the bench seat and sit them in the cab area in front of the seats so that they are out of the way before lowering the bench seat, could this be why the back of the bench seat is higher than the extensions when deployed? We also leave our dinette seats up so that we have easy access when we get up.
    Great tip about the AC not running on Auto!! To keep the AC from blowing in our faces during the night we will close the vent that is blowing to the back and open the vent blowing forward and down.
    Did I see a cover on your mattress topper that is under your sleeping bag? If so, where did you get the mattress topper that has a zippered cover on it?
    We purchased XL Twin Mattress toppers that I made the covers for and it has really work well, but I do think and thicker pad would be nicer, but then you also have to take into consideration that when it rolls up, it is bigger......and takes up more room in the overhead cabinet.
    A little tip, if your coffee maker will leak water and you only have towels underneath, it will still warp the drawer by the moisture soaking into the wood from the towels and that is additional moisture inside of the coach. You could put some shelf liner in the bottom of the drawer, then some kind of plastic container with a very short lip on it, just enough to catch the water and then put your towel under the coffee maker.
    We use Eva-Dry for moisture control and have only have to use one of these: www.eva-dry.com/dehumidifiers/eva-dry-333-mini-dehumidifier/
    you can probably find this on Amazon also.
    Yup, we have seen COPs before when boondocking at Cabela's and we felt very very safe, just like having out own personal security!!!!
    Advanced RV installs a 360 degree camera so you can see all around the coach, just can't remember if the chassis needs to be turned on or not, but I don't think it does. Some people are also using the Canary System.
    Airstream could improve on the little table top, it is way, way to heavy and just a little too big.
    For the front table leg holder....it would be nice to have a swing-away arm to put on it so that I would have a little bitty place to hold a plate and cup for the passenger since the driver has the desk area behind the seat. Sometimes when stopping for lunch it is just easier to swing the seats around and eat in the cab area, but I loose out cuz the counter top is just too far away to set my drink on.............and.......the current table top is just way too big for that area............
    Flicking cigarettes out of a car, not good.......I am sure he had an ashtray in his vehicle, duh...............and it is not good to flick cig butts when units have propane on board in the next spot either....grrrrr........
    Glad to see you out and using your Airstream Interstate..................

      @Smedsters  7 років тому

      Thanks for the great comments! The foam topper did come with the cover already... let me look into what brand of topper it is. I've emailed the customer service rep at Airstream that has been so very helpful replacing my faulty LED reading lamp and power cord to see if she can send replacement window shades. I'll definitely report back with an update. 360 degree camera... I'm jealous! Thank you, as always, for all of the tips!
