- Dear friends,
back at Ramstein Air Base. During the last weeks there was nice traffic around the NATO meeting and some special missions. We also found a new spotting place - can you find that in our video?
C-130H COMPASS CALL:
We got a EC-130H Hercules (73-1583) for the first time. This electronic aircraft is modified to disrupt the enemy communication and radars. It's one of the three main USAF electronic warfare aircraft along EA-18 Growler and F-16J Fighing Falcon.
In 2017, the Air Force announced that L3 Technologies will serve as the lead systems integrator for a future Compass Call aircraft based on the Gulfstream 550 business jet.The new Compass Call platform has been designated EC-37B.

I'm retired USAF and C-130 crew member (I flew B's and E's) -- thank you for posting these military (especially USAF) aircraft. I've been retired 30+ years but the thrill is still there.

Spent time in and out of Ramstein 30 years ago. Brings back memories since many of these aircraft were still in use then! Great stuff.

I was based at Ramstein AB in 1987-89 with the 512 and 526th AGS we had F-16 C/D we only had one runway great video brings back great memories of the 1980s and my stay there
I was based at the "Stein" 76-78. We regenerated the 512th Dragons with F-4Es. Yeah, great memories!

That EC-130H was a rare catch and you got to love that engine roar from the KC-10 at 10:50 onwards 👍

As per usual , brilliant footage.
I love knowing that most civil aviation is closely in conjunction with the military. Blew one of my friends minds by showing him how basically all airports serve military aircraft even if not stationed there. I myself have flown in a C-17, C-130 and various helicopters during my time in the US Army. Really wish I could have been stationed in Germany, but I got to go a bunch of other places in Europe so I guess it all worked out. Love this channel!

Those 'generator propellers' on the Voyager are in fact part of the Drogue wing refuelling system from Cobham. The A330 Voyager uses the A340 wing and the refuelling pods are mounted on what were the outboard engine locations of the A340. The aerial refuelling pods feature an integral fuel boost pump which provides a fuel transfer capability up to 450USGPM (1703 Litres per minute) at 45 to 55 PSI (310 to 379 kPa). Pods operate with aircraft power or are self-powered by a Ram Air Turbine.

I used to guard that particular aircraft (EC-130H #583) during my time at Sembach AB FRG (1988-91) 66 ECW. We deployed to Incirlik AB during Desert Storm. Awesome Aircraft and Crews.
Nice that this video starts off with one of my old planes from Davis Monthan the EC 130. I deployed to Kuwait with those planes.

I deployed to Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan as an AGE mechanic in the Air Force. I supported that exact EC-130 when I was there. Tail number 1583 out of Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, DM on the tail. Gave me chills seeing it again, many good memories.

I was a KC-10 Instructor Pilot with the 6th and 70th ARS at March and Travis from 1994-2011… The -10 that’s pictured here…-0078….I’ve flown that very airplane countless times… and retired in 2011 with almost 7000 hrs in the KC-10….Now I’m flying 787’s out of O’Hare…. But I kinda miss my old girl….the -10 will always be a great airplane….

I once walked from Kaiserslauten (Ramstein AFB) to Baumholder back in 1981 after realizing my mistake of getting of the train. 35 K. I got back just in time for breakfast chow. The Army sure did train us hard. lol
