thank you, so inspiring... i thought using acrylic always need canvas
I use watercolor paper for acrylics.
But.. i have problems with blending. Its impossible to blend or use 'wet on wet' technique..
You have to use the paint thin I don’t matter how thin on paper
I am amazed by the paintings in your back. How long did you approx. take for one?
I’ve started painting on paper. Not only is it much less expensive than canvas, it’s also the first surface I learned to paint on (in college for an illustration class). The only paper I have now is the linen textured paper...which I really don’t like. I’d rather have the smooth surface of the illustration board we used in class. So I just flipped the paper over to the smooth side...hope that’s alright. I didn’t gesso it. So far it seems okay, although I have noticed the colors aren’t as vibrant..kinda dull. But that’s okay too. My only concern is that it’s probably not considered professional...I’d like to make money off my paintings, so I hope it’s okay. At the moment I don’t have the funds to go out and buy extra materials, just using what I have.
You do t need to gesso paper as it’s absorbing try mixing a little gloss medium with the paint and try that it should make the paint glossy
Thank you soo much! I needed this!
All your tips were very helpful. Thanks for the detailed video.
Your welcome
I taped the paper to the board but when i put the gesso on it warped all over the place. Will it still work to paint on or is there a trick to taping to where it stays tight? Thanks
I've only been studying for 2 weeks now I'm loaning everything I can on UA-cam
Good evening, Clive! Thanks for your helpful video. I've been drawing and coloring with watercolor pencils since childwood and now I'd like to learn to paint with acrylic colors.
I have some doubts about paper. Since I own 140lb watercolor paper for my watercolor pencil works, may I can use it for acrylics? Do you recommend to tape down the dry paper before painting (I'd like to use the wet on dry technique)?
Thank you so much and have a lovely evening!
You can use acrylic just like watercolour the only difference is that once dry it won’t reactivate you can paint on any type of paper or card
Nice video loving the lesson thanks for lesson
Your so welcome
I am a beginner and I am loving this video🙏
I've switched to using acrylics on 300 lbs. watercolor paper exclusively. I like it better then canvas panels or boards or stretched canvas. And no need to pre Gesso.
Acrylic on paper is great you can alsoo thin it as much as you like it can be used as water colour
Thank you so much sir , this helped me so much 🙏🏻
Thanks Clive, I always have a problem with the paper buckling. I'm using a 250g water colour paper.
Glad it helped
Very helpful. Thanks ur the best xx
You're so awesome Clive! (Not much to say, just wanted to say hi and how much I appreciate you.)
I you also this is why I make lessons just to help and entertain so thank you
Hi Clive! Thanks for the video, very informative! I'm really interested in doing some sketching before I come with my acrylic paint, but i'm not sure whats the best approach (i'm new at this!). First of all, I wanna work on a brown stained watercolor paper that i'll stain myself at home (probably using white gesso mixed with burnt umber acrylic paint). My questions are, 1) Do you know if I can use charcoal pencil's as a drawing tool for sketching if i'll be using acrylics on top? If not, what would be best pencil? 2) I was planning on applying 1 or 2 coats of brown gesso, let it dry, sketch on top of it with some pencil, and then apply 1 coat of clear gesso on top of it, so that the sketch marks don't interfere or mix with the acrylic paint. Is that a good plan? Do i need this third coat of clear gesso or is it unnecessary? 3) Is there any better way for me to do all this besides this approach? Sorry for the long comment, Thanks for the video , take care!
Hi Clive ! I'm from Finland and I got one question related to paper and canvas... I'm wondering which one is considered more professional support , canvas or paper ?. My art budget is very limited because right now I'm unemployed and canvases are expensive compared to paper (also canvases take much more space). I have already pile of average paintings on canvases and few good ones on paper. I think those good paintings are ruined because I have painted them just on paper , because it seems that majority on Internet art sites states that paper is only for practice pieces. What is Your opinion Clive ? should I stop worrying and just paint on paper because for me it's more economical or should I stick with more expensive canvases ?
Canvas is mor archival paper is ok as long as it’s a good quality it’s really just down to budget
So realistic pictures, awsom sir..
Thank you
wow man, made my life...
nice one, subscribed...keep'em comin...
it helped me much thankyou sir
Your welcome
*can u use just a sketch paper or normal paper sir or do I have to really use the acrylic paper or use whatever type of paint you have and use that kinda of paper*
Any paper can do but acrylic paper is designed to maximise the result
how do you keep the paper smooth when painting with gesso?
Thank you, Clive! Nice tips sharing video!
Thank you for your support
Sir. Great video. I got my answer for the question I had asked in your video on 5 tips for acrylic painting on canvas. Thanks.
What have you taped your page to? And is there a good tape to use?
Low tack painters tape
Thank you so much !

Thank you for your support
Can I paint on posterboard that I gesso with clear gesso?
Please reply me sir. I'm frm india I m beginner in painting but I bought costly paint brush set frm camelin brand of korea and still its hairs comes out while working.
I tried various other brands but it's of no use .. now I get disappointed bcz I love to do painting bt I get some brushes r too soft to move accordingly while others r too hard to work with
If they loose hair there is not much you can do it’s down to poor manufacturers,, you need to use man made brushes they are best
Thanks a lot sir
Can u suggest any brand
Sonam winsor and Newton brushes
I had some questions. I paint on fairly large size papers. Around 2.25 feet x 3 feet approx. These are Acrylic on textured paper.
1. Wanted to ask if I get it framed, do i have to use glass or acrylic to protect the art or can it be left open like a canvas painting?
2. Which brings me to the next question - Can we stretch the thick texture paper around a mounting frame so that it looks like a canvas painting?
3. And would it last as long as a canvas painting if exposed? Because Acrylic on canvas wouldn't need a glass.
Paper is not my thing
1. Acrylic is self sealing on paper so will not fade like water colour so you can leave as is if you wish
2. Unsure on that one but I have stuck it to board
3. Paper painted with oils have lasted 100 years or so acrylic is plastic so it would be the paper that failed not the paint
Clive5art i am using 200gsm watercolour paper with oil pastels ...can i use acrylic on this paper too?... is it possible to sell paper paintings online ?
Hi! Your videos are very helpful, thank you for doing what you do!
I have been using acrylics on paper only and I am hoping you could help me figure out what is the best way to store my paper paintings? There are no videos on UA-cam that show me the proper way to save my paper art! Please help!?
Paper can be stored flat in a draw but make sure there is not too much weight on them as they may stick but this is more common with canvas boards as your using paper it should be fine to store them flat
Thank you so much for this video. How do you flatten out an acrylic painting on paper? I find that mine warped a little.
You can use planters tape to keep down the paper as you do with watercolour
This was very useful. Thank you.
Thank you 😊
Thanks
thanks for this useful lesson sir!
You're so welcome
very helpful video.which type of paper u used for acrlyic painting?
In this case I used an acrylic painting pad
sir how can i protect my acrylic paintings if i used to paint on a drawing book??....main problem is that the pages sometimes sticks together...
Put some grease proof paper between the sheets
+CLIVE5ART thanks for your advice sir
Most of the time cheap acrylic paints tent to stick after they dried. I would recommend trying other ones.
Are you sure that this galeria acrylic pad is good for the beginners
What did you tape your paper to before painting ? Thanks !!
It stops the paper buckling
@@CLIVE5ART I think she's asking, "what is the black surface to which you have affixed your paper?" Is it foam core? A wood panel?
I love your accent
Thank you 🙏
I have only been studying art for 2 weeks I don't fully understand what people are talking about when it apply to different kind of paint and brushes
While painting and you want to change to a different brush, how do you keep your first brushes wet without damaging the hairs?
I have a device that allows the brushes to dangle into a water basin to keep it wet, but the short handles don't reach. Thanks
I wash them quickly normally I don’t like letting them soak in water I know what your using it does work
helpful!
Glad the channel is helping the Collage please mention me to your students
the paper creases so much why
I don't understand english T_T
Can hardly hear you.
