  • Local food as in the port city where the cruise ship is currently moored: With the "S.A.L.T." concept, Silversea Cruises is diving deeper into local and regional cuisine than any other cruise line to date. On the Silver Nova, cruisetricks.de tested Silversea Cruises' restaurants, bars and shore excursions. In the video interview, I talk about all the details of the Salt concept with Silversea's Managing Director Europe, Andreas Nüssel.
The video once again gives an overview of the restaurants on board the Silver Nova, but is devoted in particular detail to the "S.A.L.T." concept of Silversea Cruises - and what else is connected with it: intensive culinary shore excursions, cooking classes on board, for the first time on the Silver Nova a "Chef's Table" dinner based on the Salt concept. And even a special bar on the Silver Nova varies the bar menu depending on the cruise area. And even though it's not part of the Salt concept, let's talk a little bit about Silversea Cruises' rather large non-alcoholic cocktail and wine offerings.
Specialties from Mallorca on the evening of the port call there, or special dishes from Casablanca after a shore excursion in Morocco: In the restaurant "S.A.L.T. Kitchen" of Silver Nova, Silversea Cruises serves regional and local specialties with such an authentic concept that part of the menu changes daily and adapts to the place called at that particular day.
Culinary scouts travel nine months ahead of the ship to explore local cuisine and translate it into dishes for the ships. In addition to Silver Nova, the relatively new Salt concept is also available on Silver Moon and Silver Dawn.
In the article "Silver Nova: innovative, spectacular, unique" www.cruisetric... I have already reported in detail about the special features of the Silver Nova and also presented the restaurants on board. Our comprehensive picture gallery shows the restaurants of the Silver Nova in all details. www.cruisetric...
Transparency note: Cruisetricks.de traveled on the Silver Nova at the invitation of Silversea Cruises.

I spent 17 days on her and although she is not a bad ship.Unfortunately the food and service is not what I’ve known on Silversea in the past .The menus and food was far below what I’ve previously experienced. The ship is also soulless and lacking in character . I’ve done Around 100 cruises since the 1950’s and was extremely disappointed.

Interesting to read your comment. My experience was pretty different, especially when it comes to the food quality. Not all dished were great, but overall I was very satisfied, mostly in comparison to other luxury cruise lines as my last experience with Silversea (Silver Spirit) is quite a few years ago and compared to that, Silver Nova was much better than I remember from the Silver Spirit back then.
Soul and character? Well, I guess that depends on the point of view. Comparing to the other smaller Silversea ships, the Silver Nova is much bigger and hence has a different atmosphere. Probably personal taste and when coming from the smaller Silversea ships I can completely understand your take on this. The Silver Nova might be for a slightly different audience than, let's say, Silver Shadow.

@@CruisetricksDe I don’t know how much you paid for your cruise as I’m not in the travel business and paid a high price , what you pay makes a difference in your expectation level . What I received compared to the many other earlier cruises I’ve done with Silversea prior to the takeover was way under-par. I’ve been cruising in the luxury market since the early 50s and what I see today in the over competitive cruise market does not particularly appeal to me .I’ve seen the very best days of cruising and probably been spoiled .As you say the market and audience is changing .I’ve been on them all and probably Regent is the only one left that suits me as they have a regular dining room and just a few alternative restaurants . Hapag-Lloyd Europa 2 is another one I liked. I think Nova is a little on the large size for the amount of guests it holds .

@@howardhdavidson I started doing this on a professional basis 15 years ago, so I suppose you simply do have a longer experience than me and know how good it has been maybe 20, 25 years ago, while I can't compare to that. I agree when it comes to Regent and Europa 2, though it always also depends on personal liking and approach. Silversea, Regent and Hapag-Lloyd Cruises are three very different products and that's what I've observed over the last decade or so: cruise lines are differentiating much more, not so much focussing on a !general luxury" audience but find their niches within the niche. Which of course means they change - not to the liking of parts of their past audience.
