One of my favorite ballads - and the best instrumental rendition I've ever heard. Kenny Barron's final riff is - I can't think of a good enough word. "But beautiful", perhaps. Amazing. And seeing Getz, who could be difficult to work with, sitting smiling, admiring Barron's playing, ceding the finale to Barron. Wonderful. The music comes first.
This is a most wonderful performance !. Thank goodness it was recorded. Superb playing from Stan and all. It’s a super prestigious festival. A ghastly shame that the Piano 🎹 tuner, was not asked to check some “ screamers “, on the instrument. So many times going back years, wonderful music, has been recorded, when the Piano has been an afterthought. I despair x x .
Amazing Getz performance once again..... & Yes, Kenny Barron was brilliant.... In 92 I happen to meet Stan's son at an LA meeting kinda by accident 'Stan's son was talking about his dad who recently passed & I immediately knew who his dad was & befriended Stan's son & wasn't aware Stan had passed. "Small world as his dad, Stan Getz was a favorite of mine going back to my teens & we were able to get together a few times & talk jazz & discovered we both had several of the same jazz albums & favorites 'hope he's doing well have lost contact with him 'He's also a jazz musician.
Kenny Barron is such an underrated pianist. Awesome as Stan's sideman. Sweet solo! Stan, wow, listen to that velvet tone...so melodic. One of his "powers" (imo) was how he was able to sing, on the sax, and his perfect note placement. He is one of my main men when it comes to ballads. Yasuhito Mori I have not heard much from, but I like his timbre. Ben Riley, imo, another underrated musician. He is never too busy, and does not drop any opportunity to be a firm support. Thanks!
These guys are all wonderful. Kenny Barron, Yashito Mori, and Ben Riley. That they are playing with Getz is an indication of their impeccable musicianship. Only the best can hang with this man. In my world, as it pertains to saxophone players, there is Stan Getz, and then there is everybody else. That goes for the piano of Kenny Barron as well. "But Beautiful" is an absolute beauty.
Versatility. No one single Tenor player EVER had nor ever will have the Range that Getz had ...... he could play ANYONE, but they ( Train , Dex , Sonny , Jimmy , etc... ) could never do Getz..... in my dreams , I can play with the masculine Power of Dexter and the precision and tonality of Getz
Escuché este grupo en vivo en Skeppsholmen, Estocolmo en ese mismo año... que maravilla... no podía creer el sonido en vivo que tenían... que solistas!!! que músicos!!! que artistas!!!
Yes, and to a great extent they are "coming out" because he's listening to, and utilizing, what the great Kenny Barron suggests on every harmonic change. Just as Kenny is listening to him. That's how it is supposed to work in a great jazz ensemble. It becomes very difficult to sort out the "accompanist" and the "soloist" because they are so tightly bound together. And while we're at it, let's give a nod to the marvelous Jimmy Van Heusen for laying down such a fertile melodic and harmonic ground.
How can a person possibly play the Tenor like Stan Getz ? It’s simply Not possible . John , Bird , Michael maybe … but , I honestly don’t believe anyone can play the Tenor like Stan did .
e daniel:"but beautiful",a great version of this also great quartet.stan getz, the sound, always marvellous.special mention at piano solo and japanese basser yasuhito mori,a discovery.
Top 3 all time. Fabulous pure sound.

This song is aptly named to describe this exquisite performance by Getz and Barron. “But Beautiful”.

Michael Chapman I believe his son passed a few years ago. My friend plays at a charity event for stans wife Monica.
I miss the unmistakable and instantly recognizable beautiful sound and playing of Stan Getz.

I would have clicked on this sooner if I'd known from the title that the superb Kenny Barron was the pianist.

What Kenny did in that coda was unbelievably beautiful !!!
7:22 Stan, not sure where this is going :)
STAN looks pleased, not a look I saw in his eyes often. SAW him live many times!
Geweldig
Lovely. Perfect, fascinating, beautiful, great solos, great ensemble playing. Stan stopped perfecting his sound and Kenny hasn't either.
to add Stan's beautiful solo in double time . Everybody in it ..Kenny ..everybody
e daniel: a very expressive interpretation of this song by a great group with stan getz (the sound)
Sensacional Stant Gets saxofonista de notable calidad

Just listen to those ideas coming out of Stan's head!

Kenny, Stan, Yasuhito und Ben sind die Nachfolger von Joseph, Wolfgang und Ludwig
Stan + Kenny = Atomic Bomb
Jazz is an unifying entity of humanity.
❤️
Every tenor player with a day job that listens to this clip is like "yeah, I'm playing my sax toNIGHT!
Nobody better on sax than Stan
Nothing more nothing less than genius
Brilliant jazz.Samuel Mario Abela

What a sound! Stan is accompanied by the legendary Kenny Barron
Meravigliosi
Always painful to hear great artists having to use such an out-of-tune piano.
So beautiful !
