I believe that in the comics Unity was Rose's grandmother, but the story has a longer timeline here, so they added a generation. (That's just from memory, and the comics came out a long time ago. 🙂 ) Mervyn Pumpkinhead is played by Mark Hamill. The comic book series had some single-issue stories and some longer arcs, so the series is doing the same.
We are beginning the second major storyline of the season. Fun! Our pumpkin friend is voiced by Mr. Mark Hamill. You can hear a bit of the Joker in him. :) And the familiar looking guy with the sword cane is the brilliant Stephen Fry. Brittish comedian extraordinare, a man of unusual cleverness and skepticism. Also known from movies and tv shows such as V for Vendetta, Sherlock Holmes, Bones, Blackadder, a Bit of Fry and Laurie, just to name a few.
Yeah Steve,That girl at the diner in 1x5 was talking to Rose on the phone... The storylines are all connected in some way. Even Lyta & her dead husband are children of important characters in the DC universe. That is all I can tell you.
The Serial Killer convention (Cereal Convention) is probably one of my favorite WTF things in the storyline. Just wait. Despair enjoys the pain, they also put her in crocs which made me cackle. In the comics, she's nekkid.
It's been a minute since I've read the comics but I think the name 'the Doll's House' comes from the entire storyline of the vortex being called that. And the best part about Sandman overall is that it's more of an anthology- some of the storylines are spread out over a longer arc and some, like the Death episode and Hob Gadling episode (combined here in episode 6 that you saw) are standalone stories, though they seed some things here and there that turn up again later. Great reaction.
The subject of Unity's pregnancy has been a debate bet. me & my friends, with one side arguing she was r-worded... and the other saying she wasn't, given that she said she fell in love with someone and later had their baby > meaning she consented, albeit in her dreams. Lol. Either way, I like how they showed Lyta's reaction while Unity was telling her story with a smile... it pretty much gives away her take on it, since she was relishing the idea of her imagined love life/family :p (And yes, John.. Barnaby IS a stupid name 🙌)
Could be considered a spoiler::::: > < < < < < Coercive sex can certainly still be considered r*pe, and can be classified as such under the law. The individual who impregnated Unity did so under false pretenses and a cover identity. Plenty of victims feel love for their abuser, and can feel affection and love for the children of their abuse as it isn't the fault of their children (and plenty do not, which is also fair, it's a very individual thing, we all respond to trauma differently). That would be especially true, I would think, of a person who only had 12 years of lived experience, and lived a significant portion of the rest of her life sleeping with her dreams directed by that individual who had a specific direction in mind for her.
Unity's age is the one hiccup in this version. The story starts in 1916 because that's when the sleepy sickness actually started. While they expanded Alex Burgess extend age because of Dream's tools. As the comics timeline was in the 1990's her age was 80-90ish, but as the show takes place current time there is an extra 30 years to account for which is just swept under the run.😅
Spoilers for the channel . . . . . . Rose's linage up to Unity come from an Endless. so that helps the non-aging bit. Also, Rose's +21 and doesn't look it.
@@ayaehab Unity's age is only a minor issue on the TV show because they added 30+ years. In the comics it's not a problem at all and there is really no need of a spoiler-y explanation.
There's another movie about the sleepy sickness, about children waking up as older people, called "Awakenings" starring Robin Williams and Robert DeNiro.
I appreciate how appalled you are at the idea of Unity getting pregnant in her sleep. The end of the season mentions something that I think makes it less fucked up, but I will wait to say until your episode 10 reaction, unless you guys notice it yourselves 😉
I like the show, but this episode made me realize that not only do they make lgbtq characters the majority but they don't seem to like to make their straight relationships anything but toxic either. Annoying
Though luck, though id argue that almost every relationship in this Show is toxic. Most if Not all of the queer ones as well. Id say that Lyta actually had the healthiest one before her husband died. So what are you actually annoyed by?
@Anna-zi7sx it's not an actual reflection of reality. Most real people usually make attempts not to poison their relationships with others, which can make it hard to be sympathetic toward characters that you were supposed to root for.
@@Jonathan-fu5hx ah, so your Issue is that youd like to have all/Most characters in the Show to have healthy relationships? I guess its a matter of Taste, the Show doesnt really Focus on the relationships too much imo (which I prefer) I wouldnt say its an unhealthy reflection of reality though - and even if it was, this is a fantasy Show in a World unlike our own and the Characters arent what i would call normal even for the World they Set up

i dont think they will adapt lyta and her husband being children of superheroes in the series

It's just sort of hand-waved that long-term proximity to magic extends your lifespan somewhat, and they leave it at that.
In the comic it's said that Rose hasn't really aged, a form of immortality but not, so it'd stand to reason Unity would have some of that too.

Yeah, the problem with pulling "in the comic" on this is that in the comic, all the sleepers woke up in 1989 instread of 2023.
It was nice to have you recognize and thot worth mention the actor who played the spooky Doppler in the Witcher. He’s quite striking.

in dc comics azrael exists but not as angel, he is human superhero (and has nothing to do with death)
