Amazing run! Can't wait to see TA Wiki's rule with the insect glaive! Tbh, I'm pretty impressed with your dodging movement, but one thing, as an insect glaive main, is to use the infinite loop attack combo when the monster is falling. Thank you for accepting my challenge request!

Hi! I'm a newbie IG user, what's the infinite attack combo?

@@suavegianthey there, I’m an insect glaive main. The combo is Left click, left click, right click, BACK into left click and repeat it.
For instance, left, left, right, left, left, right
This will prevent you from going into an animation lock (your second right click, or tornado slash, which interrupts your inputs). Use the infinite combo on knocked monsters knowing that you’re 100% safe.

I think it is more optimal to start with neutral right click into left click, because there is a transitionary extra hit.
Then again, base left click is a damn good move to spam with small openings.

@@ericraululyeetusdelyeetus5028 Tl;Dr: The answer is complicated.
Whether it's better to start with the Side Swings (Neutral Circle) or the Twirl (Neutral Triangle) depends on a number of factors, but here's two that I consider the most when the monster gets downed:
      1) Are there any other parts of the monster close to the part I want to hit, and if so, will I bounce when hitting them? Because the attack is very wide, the Side Swings are prone to accidentally striking nearby parts which can eat through your sharpness without doing great damage. Additionally if they bounce, that's going to seriously reduce your damage from that opening. The extra attack added on to the Twirl by going into it from the Side Swings suffers from this same issue as well.
      2) What attack in the combo am I going to be at when the monster gets back up? Generally speaking, there's three main routes I use:
2A) Ending the combo with the Twirl or Side Swings can allow you to go into the Double Leaping Slash (Circle after the Twirl, Side Swings or Backflip), which provides solid damage, cannot bounce, and can help you reposition. That last point is particularly important as most monsters will try to turn to attack you once they get up, and the Double Leaping Slash to the side or behind the monster which is usually a lot safer. This is the route I use most often.
2B) Ending with the Quick Slashes (Triangle after Twirl or Poke) can allow you to go into the Backflip, which itself can go into the Double Leaping Slashes. This route tends to be a decent balance between offence and defence as the Backflip will bring you to a safer position with little recovery allowing you to safely disengage if you need to, or alternatively go back in with a Double Leaping Slash to continue your offence. Note that World added the ability to Backflip after the Twirl, which makes routing more flexible than in 4th gen.
2C) Not ending the combo at all and continuing to use the infinite combo. Obviously this will provide the best DPS at the cost of maybe getting smacked for your greed. Do note however that you'll end up moving forward quite a bit by doing so, which can make it difficult to continue striking a weakspot.
As a basic rule when starting out, assume you can get in three attacks of the infinite combo safely (or four if you're being risky) before going into a finisher off a standard knockdown. Following that logic, starting with the Twirl will have you end at either the Side Swings (safe) or Twirl (risky), whereas starting with the Side Swings will have you end at either the Quick Slashes (safe) or Side Swings (risky). The Side Swings starter will get better damage sooner at the cost of a generally worse ender and no second Twirl (and also moving you more). Starting with the Twirl provides worse damage early on in exchange for a better ender, less movement, and the potential for a second Twirl. It's also more precise of an opener and can immediately go into the Double Leaping Slash if you're worried about bouncing.
As an aside, while the Twirl can be a decent option for small openings, I'd recommend using the Poke (Forward+Triangle) or the Single Leaping Slash (Forward+Circle) for those instead. The problem with the Twirl is that it's pretty committal, which can cause issues. The Poke is pretty safe, precise, and can lead into the Backflip or the Quick Slashes. A simple Poke into roll is a great option if you're not confident about your safety. The Poke is really versatile, to the point that I wouldn't be surprised if it was the move I've used the most. On the other hand, you have the Single Leaping Slash. It provides better damage than the Poke, and more importantly can lead into the Double Leaping Slash. Overall it's a better burst damage option that also allows you to safely reposition, and while it's safer than the Twirl, it's also riskier and less versatile than the Poke.
