    Another thing I like about Blades and how it ties into the "your characters are super competent but you don't need to have 100% prep to play that" concept that the backflash system plays into is how it handles equipment - With you picking if you've got a light, medium, or heavy loadout, but you don't actually define what your character brought with them until it comes up. (Kind of similar to the 'item points' concept in Fabula Ultima - where instead of tracking your healing potions you just track how many item points you have and can then use them as needed to create whatever common adventuring item you happen to need at that point in terms of what it's doing, I think, but while Fabula Ultima plays into the JRPG feel with the specifics this feels more heist movie with the framing)

      Totally agree. I really love the loadouts and the flashbacks. I’m trying to add similar concepts to my design. Haven’t fully gotten to equipment yet

    I loved the leveling of 13th Age. Still not sure if I'm going to even use character levels, but if I do they're going to be broken down more. Gives players a sense of progression both for their character and the story.

      I agree. It makes you wonder why you need a leveling system at all, or if you can just trickle in powers here and there…..but, there is power in that DING! In an MMO, and I think that some of my favorite moments as a player was being told I leveled and then pouring over books to figure out what I was going to do.

      My thought on that video is that it allows anticipation. Rather than just being told you level, you get to see it on the horizon and eagerly work towards it. His solution allows that without the arbitrary way milestones are run and without the tedious tracking of XP.
