Decino is always at his best when he's in single digits health. As he memorably said at one time, health is over-rated. These maps certainly aren't the best in the megawad but decino's commentary and gameplay make any map entertaining. I'd love to see the big guy tackle the 1996 Eternal Doom on fast monsters. Those enormous maps would be a real challenge but I'd lay odds that decino could do it.
Eternal doom's levels are epic in architecture and aesthetics and certainly a step up from tnt in some regards, but from a gameplay perspective, imho its not that great to watch, especially the switch hunts of map 12 and map 30. Hell, I'd rather play mill than map 12 of eternal doom.
Obviously the bloody "ROMERO" wall texture is a homage to George Romero, as the map creators are clearly fans of his breakout film "Martin" about a Young Vampire being a shitty person. He did some other movies too, nothing really notable.

Since you asked, i love MILL, it was always my favorite TNT level due to the atmosphere and memorability of it. Each section is distinct and sticks in the mind-- locked in a box with an arch-vile; many elevators wooden room; the blue room; revenant cages-- and the echoing, empty halls of the disused facility contrasted with transient random ultra-violence bursts is what gives it an overall distinct horror vibe for me. Culminating in The Room at the end, first glimpsed ominously through the locked door. You enter, it's empty. You shoot a wall, you hear the monsters wake up, you pull the switch surrounded by bodies, and then horrible things start pouring into the room through vents and teleporters. No-one can remember what the mill used to make, but now it makes Fear. Yeah, too many barons i guess, but i love it all anyway. Really cool exit room too-- a hell-portal at the heart of the machine. I find Mill to be Not Forgettable, like all good artistic creations.
I'll stand up for TNT's longer maps, I'm a fan. What this megawad lacks in excitement it makes up for in atmosphere. Personally, I'm a huge fan of Map 17, 18, and 20--they're a healthy challenge to new players and friendly to a seasoned veteran. Props to Decino for breezing through them all: it took me many runs to master TNT, but it's one of my favorites.
After all those many years, I thought I've already known where all the secrets are in these maps, but after watching your video, you proved me wrong. Unbelievable
Yeah, elements in these levels can be annoying, but i like the creativity and experimentation - just implementing all sorts of ideas and seeing what will work and what not. Plutonia is much more streamlined and uniform, and that's only one reason i don't really like to play it myself, though i like to watch it being played :P
Mill is indeed bad, but then again so are most of the levels at this point in the wad. This is where the "fun drag" hits marianas trench levels - props for sticking it out for us ;)
This part demonstrates the idea of TNT levels best: Making a room or two with really beautiful aesthetics... and then remembering there’s the rest of the level to make - thus we get rooms like the ugly arachnotron area in Mill. It only gets uglier from here! Not only that, but you get a taste of Drake O’Brien’s map design philosophy with MAP20. I call all of his levels big dicks, because they’re all long and hard. Next part we get MORE of that with MAP21 immediately afterwards. Fun!
1:04:06 I genuinely thought you were going to have to spend five minutes back tracking to the end of the level. What a random teleporter (I didn't even remember it). Seriously though, map20 is a chore, and then you remember you have map21 right after. I always get burnt out towards the end of TNT.
Hey, Mill isn't that bad casually, I like the blue part of it. To think of it, I can't even tell for sure why I like it so much. Maybe I just like blue.

That "Doom-Cute" desk in Map 19 was the Hell Knight's desk, not the Mancubus. Assuming the closest-to-object Actor is also the owner is a bit dumb. The Mancubus is a heavily altered human that got turned into a giant to accommodate Hell-Spawn technology and cannot do anything but serve as unwitting bodyguards and gatekeepers. Hell Knights, on the other hand, are oversized satyrs who are running the Union Aerospace Corporation into the red, not with countless invasions, but with really stupid get-rich-quick schemes that never pan out.

15:12 Gotta love the fact that the skybox stays the same when you pick up the invulnerability. The universe doesn't give a damn about Doomguy becoming godlike, it seems.
I've been playing PSXfied versions of the TNT maps with fast monsters, and I was liking map 20... up until the outdoor area, which just ruined the map for me. Was playing without saves and got killed by the Archvile my first time through, as I was not expecting him to just suddenly teleport in to a large open area with no cover. The song you made for it was amazing though, which made having to play through the whole map again a lot more tolerable.
I never played that much Final Doom, but I distinctly remember holding Evilution in higher regard than Plutonia. Looking at your playthroughs, I can no longer imagine just what the effing f was I thinking back then.
i used to hate Plutonia too because of it's difficulty and the fact that it does'nt have it's owen Soundtrack also BMD walkthroughs made me dislike the game even but after i saw decino playthrough of it and listened to it's Midi pack now i can say it's my favorite part of Final Doom
I always forget just how obnoxiously long map 20 is... I usually look back on the silly cubicle office area with some mild glee. But yeah, the fenced canyon in the end is seriously just intolerable. And I love the aesthetic of map 19, being a big factory space (thank you for acknowledging the conveyor belts; they're beautiful). The truck is delightful. But yeah, these later TNT maps are just too damn big... A shame, too, since the first dozen or so levels are absolute gold (for the most part). Every time I replay Evilution, I always peter out halfway through...
Don't worry decino. Your video is brilliant. 👊 It's just that continuing row of large maps that make you feel it could be boring. Specially the last map of this video ' Central Processing' alone is a thriller. Large as 2,5 normal maps, low of health and full of well placed monsters in often wide open areas let you suffer on and on again. But that's the handwriting of Drake O'Brien, who is also the creator of map 21 ' Administration Center' and map 27 the infamous ' Mount Pain'. In my opinion he is a good map maker with great ideas but he exaggerates about things like too large maps, too wide open areas and too less health for the player. On the other side, he knows exactly how to push the adrenaline of the player to the limit without a maximum of enemies collapsing over poor doomguy. 😁
His maps have great design and action, very creative, but they just keep on going for far too long. I'm ready to finish one of his maps by the time I'm half way through and then he just gives you another area to push through
I played along with your playthrough of Plutonia, but you know I'm completely fine sitting TNT out... Even if it has some boring levels I'd much rather watch you play it than play it myself! So nice work! Are you going to play through Ancient Aliens? It might be a bit modern for you but I loved it. Really fun maps. It does add a few new enemies but they are well done
Is it weird that I enjoy these videos where decino gets stuck playing boring maps he doesn't like? It makes me sympathise with that universal frustration of being stuck playing a crappy map, but you can't skip it because you want to be able to say honestly that you really beat the whole wad. It's like we're all going through the same thing together and sharing the pain.
Aw, I rather like MAP16 of TNT : ( Great aesthetics and foreboding exploration. Actually, I liked all of the levels you hated here, especially 20. The reason? I like long, meandering Doom levels with atmosphere, and since I've played Doom exclusively in VR since 2016, it adds new appreciation to these kinds of maps.
I'm one of those people who like the Mills map. Actually, I like many of the maps you don't like. Even if it's annoying, I find novelty in consistent themes and cool gimmicks that make sense in for the environment they're going for. I will tolerate weird gameplay if it makes a facility I can envision being in and functioning rather than just being a weird place where you klll demons. Many of TNT's levels feel like facilities that one could go into and actual industry is happening in it
in the Mill(lvl18) you are supposed to shoot the cyberdemon with rockets you collected from the "tunnel" platform window, that is right in front of the cyberdemon.
Map 18 is one of my favourites :-) I like large maps. This map has the tech-based blue section which reminds me Doom 1 and has great last section - Cyberdemon, the manufacturing line and so on :-)
The previous video (edit: part 3 actually, not part 4) was the first time i hear you losing your composure, but it was excitement for getting 100% kills on Deadzone. In this video, its the first time i hear you getting frustrated... i guess it was only a matter of time before TNT did that to you... Still, your walkthrough is one of the absolute best. :)
Decino: oh boy, blue armor. Nothing can kill me now! Me: oh boy, those 3 secrets I never knew I needed! Please ya big imp, just let decino live to show me more! 😂
I know you hate this map, but I love it. I died countless times on this one. What I liked was how huge it was, and how tough. It seemed endless. Yes it's a bit drab, but its vastness -- esp. the last part -- was challenging and fun because you're getting sniped at long distance.
I'm personally a fan of map 18. While I do agree it has some sections that drag and it certainly could've had some cuts, it's still engaging enough and the variety from section to section keeps it from being too same-y. Plus, while it's big, it doesn't have much in the way of actual rooms that are overly big, which I appreciate. And also, for some reason, it's got this Shores of Hell vibe to it I really like. Kind of reminds me of Deimos Lab tone-wise at some points, I'd like to say? Map 20, on the other hand... It starts off well enough, and I wouldn't necessarily dislike it if it weren't for the outdoors area. Up to there, it has annoying parts, but you feel you're well on your way to finishing it. And then you get into huge hitscan sniper land and realize you still have all that to get through and it's just discouraging. I'm currently replaying this on my Switch since the update adding Final Doom into the console versions came out not long ago, and I'm dreading getting to it. From what I read in the comments, maps 20, 21 and 27 have the same designer, huh? Well, makes sense then. All of them seem to have this thing of going way past the point where for all intents and purposes they should've ended.
2:11 - I do find it amusing when Pain Elementals in-fight their own lost soul spawns. Its like they hate what they create but are unable to stop doing it!
After TNT series, would you plan to do other challenging megawad series? Like scythe, sunlust, going down...etc, those wads really have thier own charm.
"And now we got a better weapon" reminds me Quadrazid' Opposing force explained when he said some about "fresh weapon" about m249 re-pickup. You are sounding like a true battle-scarred veteran, versatile in combat with any weapon.
Just finished playing these 5 TNT maps for the first time, and I’m not going to lie, they all drag on for too long that I understand why Civvie calls TNT boring, like I really enjoyed Maps 1-15 and the two secret levels, but Maps 16-20 were just bad. I hope maps 21-30, the last ones I need to play, aren’t too terrible.
I got 50 minutes on my end level timer for my blind run through map 20 and I was trying my absolute hardest. I dont think I ever usually hate doom levels but this one REALLY crossed a line lol
The music of map 16, Blood Jungle, is criminally injusticed just like Into Sandy's City before it. The official maps they appear in are all BAD with capital letters. It takes custom map packs made by fans with good taste in music to do them justice.
@@AlexeiVoronin Ballistyx? That unlit, cavernous piece of dung? I kick that _macumba_ away from me by enabling jumping and hopping into the exit portal in 2 seconds. JMO, of course.
Map 16: Only good thing is music, one of the best in tnt. But nonsense design, could be a creepy type map. Map 17: This map, 3 & 5 are top 3 tech based maps in tnt imo. Map 18: Flopped for some tedious and unnecessary sections but not that bad, has some cool details Map 19: Only good thing is the details of yellow key area and megasphere area (can be a nice dating place). Map 20: Beautiful well designed large map. Top 5 in tnt for me. You can skip map 21 to 25. I won't mind if you use cheat codes. Just finish in 5 minutes.
Even though you really hate that one map in this set of maps (Mill I believe), I quite like it because of its difficulty. It's deliberately challenging and has bits in it that make you go 'wtf' on purpose. It's designed to make you rage quit and maps that really push me to my limit are sometimes fun because I have to really think about what I'm doing. I have to use my brain. You might be thinking, 'But Hawke, I'm playing Doom specifically to avoid doing that one thing.' Ah, but that's where you're wrong. See, Doom isn't all about action. A fair chunk of its playability is also down to its puzzles. And I enjoy a puzzle that gets my mind in a twist, because it makes it all the more satisfying when I finally figure it out.
i love the Mill (map 18) :D i think its the best map in TNT. and its a CASALI map as you know. But why you dont like it? is it because it is a big? in my opinion its beautifully designed doom map, with a lot of detail and challenge!
i have seen many playtroughs of this map by different youtubers.. almost a dozen. but you are first who dislikes Mill(map18). im really interested why? especially because tnt is full of ugly maps and really mill shines as a good map among them. at thats how i see it.
Map 19 is one of those "adorable concept" maps. I dig how weird it is. The stupid teleporter part absolutely brings it down though. Axe it and it would be a slightly above average map in this lineup. I mean, we've got a literal office with a key in a drawer and a friggin truck. That's very experimental for the time. Actually making areas look like something that people would actually use rather than an arbitrary corridor hellhole. I mean it's not a _great_ map, but considering the taff that's incoming, ohohohohoho...
At this point, one can argue that the Casali brothers should be "the true daddies" of Final Doom. Well, putting that aside, we return to the (final) nighttime maps: - Deepest Reaches - Processing Area - Mill - Shipping/Respawning - Central Processing 22:26: Well, Dario Casali only did parts of Mill. Not exactly sure on what extent. Heck, the map may actually be favored because of his simple genius involvement. Not unlike how the J. Michael Straczynski-helmed episodes for The Real Ghostbusters' sucky Seasons 3, 5, and 6 are still as beloved as his Seasons 1 and 2 tenure (which then led to plot points from those sparse 6 eps becoming important for the Extreme Ghostbusters sequel series). 33:41: The friendly fire bit feels so refreshing. 1:05:03: Does Drake O'Brien ring any bells?
I have been playing doom for a while now, but only the official wads. I used to play doom many years ago too but never played the custom maps. Now, after watching half of your videos, I downloaded Hell Revealed 1&2 and my current progress is map 22 on UV with some saves because some maps (map 32), are just nuts! I also played Sigil and enjoyed it a lot. After I'm done with Hell Revealed series, what classic wads would you recommend I play next?

That one is also a rotten idea!
Map 18 is one of my favourites :-) I like large maps. This map has the tech-based blue section which reminds me Doom 1 and has great last section - Cyberdemon, the manufacturing line and so on :-)
i love it too.
This map is actually one of my favorites among the official Doom 2 maps.
EDIT: I'm talking about the first map in the video, Deepest Reaches.
I killed a Cyber Demon with a fatal punch today! (Doom 2 refueling base, UV, Xbox 1). Just thought it might cheer you up Mr. Decino 😁
You're so jaded this time. Holy moly
TNT's making me bitter.
2:11 - I do find it amusing when Pain Elementals in-fight their own lost soul spawns. Its like they hate what they create but are unable to stop doing it!
Dinner is done! Long video HYPE!!!!
I'm going to say something that might be a little controversial, but IMO a linedef switch press is NOT cheating.
MAP17 is slightlty similar to Pandaemonium from Doom I...
After TNT series, would you plan to do other challenging megawad series?
Like scythe, sunlust, going down...etc, those wads really have thier own charm.
Eviternity and player submitted levels are planned after TNT.
Wait player submitted levels? Time to work with doom builder all day
Well, I already received the 20 submitted levels back in July. Not accepting any right now, but maybe in the future!
I second Going Down. Seems very Decino worthy
Quake 2, maybe? Or isn't it hard enough for you?
"And now we got a better weapon" reminds me Quadrazid' Opposing force explained when he said some about "fresh weapon" about m249 re-pickup. You are sounding like a true battle-scarred veteran, versatile in combat with any weapon.
This channel deserves more subs
22:28 the level literally has the plutonia doors, not that hard to believe considering the sadistic design
3:50 OMG Decino swore, i cant believe it shakin and cryin rn
i love TNT for it's Creativity level design it inspiares your Imagination and i love Plutonia the most because it's perfect migawad
@22:50 - five very satisfying and perfect ssg-shots there. Oh, and that lift really didn't like you to leave that disliked area... 🤣
That's the most semi-trailer looking 'truck' I've ever seen lol
I need a fanart of phat mancubus with a tie behind a desk sorting out some files
Yeah maps 1-15 definitely felt like a noticably better batch compared to these 5
36:50 in BigMacDavis' WT of this map, the chaingunner actually managed to beat the mancubus :D i guess you have seen it but i wanted to mention it.
is it me or am i always starved for chaingun ammo?
Looks like the scars from Hell Revealed 2 are finally catching up with decino. Now he walks with paranoia of arch-viles lurking nearby.
yea i ran around for a hour until i looked up this vid for the yellow key
anyway i have a love hate relationship with map 20... the outdoor area is so beautiful but it's waaaay too long
same here. and the atmosphere and music is cool. it gives the vibes of being alone in the somewhere space far away.
Yeah, the fighting out there is fun, but the running in circles is awful, lol.
I love map 18 and 20, hate map 21
My favorite map in Tnt yes it's long but at least it's fun and beautiful unlike map 21
I noticed these are coming out more and more spread apart...
Getting harder?
Also thanks for these awesome vids.
No, just busy IRL lately.
I got 50 minutes on my end level timer for my blind run through map 20 and I was trying my absolute hardest.
I dont think I ever usually hate doom levels but this one REALLY crossed a line lol
God rewatching this is making me angry, theres like 5 sections in a row I hate LOL.
20:30 Thanks a lot for the tip, I hate dealing with those guys
Can't remember any of these levels, and I beat TNT more than once in the 90's. Forgotten for a reason I guess...
Everytime I think this playthrough has gone beyond where I quit TNT, I recognise a level and think "what have I done with my life?"
The music of map 16, Blood Jungle, is criminally injusticed just like Into Sandy's City before it. The official maps they appear in are all BAD with capital letters. It takes custom map packs made by fans with good taste in music to do them justice.
Dude, you crazy? MAP26 also uses this music and it's one of the best levels in all of the commercial Doom games.
@@AlexeiVoronin
Ballistyx? That unlit, cavernous piece of dung? I kick that _macumba_ away from me by enabling jumping and hopping into the exit portal in 2 seconds. JMO, of course.
@@DinnerForkTongue You jsut suck at playing it ;)
@@AlexeiVoronin
If I sucked at Doom, would I be having a blast playing Sunlust RN? :P
@@DinnerForkTongue Eh, that's a modern thing. TNT and Plutonia come from a different era. It's weird to compare them directly to new stuff.
Map 16: Only good thing is music, one of the best in tnt. But nonsense design, could be a creepy type map.
Map 17: This map, 3 & 5 are top 3 tech based maps in tnt imo.
Map 18: Flopped for some tedious and unnecessary sections but not that bad, has some cool details
Map 19: Only good thing is the details of yellow key area and megasphere area (can be a nice dating place).
The midi of map 16 reminds me of the fighting music in Ultima Underworld.
Decino:- "I think this is going to be a long video."
Me:- *looks at video length.*
Me:- "1 hour 7 minutes!! Yikes!"
Me:- "1 hour 7 minutes!! Yes!"
Two BFG secrets at the ends of levels? I can only imagine the disappointment and frustration.
i love the Mill (map 18) :D i think its the best map in TNT. and its a CASALI map as you know.
I don't mind big levels as long as they stay engaging. Mill just feels a bit empty. I do like the atmosphere though.
only part that i dont like is the wooden elevators in the sludge pool room. near the red door.. but top map it is. 9½/10
and the atmosphere of mill is very good. ! argent energy mill
I liked the way you deemed processing area a nonshitty map lol. Lmfao.
These are definitely one of the levels of all time
An hour of decino? You spoil us!
Well, putting that aside, we return to the (final) nighttime maps:
- Deepest Reaches
- Processing Area
- Mill
- Shipping/Respawning
- Central Processing
22:26: Well, Dario Casali only did parts of Mill.
Scythe. Much easier than Hell Revealed, but still a classic.
@@decino Thank you! I just downloaded scythe but I will be patient and get repeatedly slaughtered by the HR series until I am deemed worthy. :D
OH YEAH!
