  • 1950: Early days of the Cold War. Faced with a potential Red Army invasion of Western Europe, the U.S. army dreamed up a plan of total war against the USSR. In this first episode, we examine the accident that occurred at Mount Kologet in a remote part of Canada on 14 February 1950, the first crash involving a bomber carrying a nuclear bomb. The accident was secret, and would be during forty years. For there were to be many more, and four in 1950 alone - in Quebec, in New Mexico, in Ohio and in California. These were known in military parlance as Broken Arrows.

The 1996 film Broken Arrow contains a quote "I'm not sure which disturbs me most, the fact that we've lost a nuclear warhead or that it happens so often there's a term for it"......

45:05 Goldsboro doesn’t mention it was later realized they only found the smashed-off face of the arming switch, not the actual switch (which was destroyed). That it read “armed” was as accurate as telling the time from a smashed-off clock dial.

15:30 - a bold and untrue statement: “if it wasn’t for John Clearwater, history’s very first broken arrow would never have gone public.” Details were public knowledge since the 1970’s along with dozens of published articles. The crash site was rediscovered in 1997 but Clearwater didn’t visit until 2003 - added nothing new to the story.

Oh I don’t know - several unimportant inaccuracies in the Canada crash story. Also -
“Clearwater discovered the bomber was part of a plan for nuclear war” is just plain funny.
14:00 the “desperate search to reach the wreck at any price” - was first sent on horseback and failed because the AF didn’t want the cost of bringing choppers up.
14:20 the “secret commando force” hung out in town and went fishing, even brought a local with them to the crash site. Everyone knew what they were doing.
14:35 “a team led by Clearwater managed to get to the crash site” - managed this by calling and booking a helicopter flight - the pilots all knew where it was.
45:05 think I noted on Goldsboro - Revelle didn’t find the actual arming switch, only its smashed-off display face.
46:45 “if the bomb went off it would completely reconfigure the landscape of the eastern seaboard” - a 3.8 megaton bomb would leave a half-mile wide crater, which would be hard to spot on a satellite view.

Please add more advertisements to this documentary. Having an add pop up every 4 minutes is not enough for viewers as we love to see random con artists cyberbegging. We desire a total advertisement fest of 1 ad per minute of the video. Thanks a lot.

Don’t use the app, there’s an extension on chrome that kills ads. Use that. I discovered that when UA-cam updated so badly I couldn’t use it so chrome ever since.

It is no wonder we are at the end of human existence, but we may have a chance if we speak to one another rather than using atomic bombs.

Communism was never a contagion. A contagion would be the result of popularity. It was only popular among the powerful, who were few.. Everyone else hated it. That's not a good example of a contagion.

It's funny the language used in a documentary. When a documentary is supposedly to inspire thought or educate. Not indoctrinate
