you could begin with the very bible your family accepts. go through its preface if your version does have it. Read through it and learn how they have handled the sacred name. Most versions do make the disclosure in the preface that while the name of the creator from the original manuscripts is indeed Yah (YHVH), they in turn have done the abominable and proceeded to alter that name in their translations, replacing it with either LORD, or Jehovah. it became Jewish custom that because they regarded, the sacred name to be too holy to be uttered, avoiding it was the safest way to handle it. for the Jews instead of using that name, they adopted ADONAI instead, where Adonai is the Jewish way of writing LORD.
why is this practice abominable? simply read Deuteronomy 4.2, Proverbs 30.5-6, Rev 22.18-19. No man has authority to add or subtract from God's flawless word. if the translators themselves bear witness to God's name being YAHWEH, then it is to be written as such without adding or subtracting.
aside from the preface, you could read from the KJV, Psalm 68.4, it says to extol him by his name, and proceeds to declare that name as JAH. why Jah instead of Yah? before the 17th century, no single language had the letter J. In the English alphabet, J was the last letter to be introduced, and when it was introduced, it was interchangeable with Y and was pronounced the same. As a result, names like EliYah, became EliJah, Yah became Jah, and Yerushalayim became Jerusalem. as such, when the KJV was written in that 17th century, it put the name as Jah since J and Y were interchangeable. Nonetheless, Psalm 68.4 should begin to open your family's eyes to the truth that Yah is not heresy, but the very truth that makes us free.
Lastly, you could also use a word they know and love, WHICH IS HalleluYah. evry user of the word contends it means praise the Lord. That is almost perfect except for one thing, it is actually praise Yah, where Yah is the proper name of he whom they call LORD. HalleluYah is a composite Hebrew word built from two Hebrew words, the first Hallel, and the second Yah. Hallel is a Hebrew word for praise, and Yah as we have shown using Psalm 68.4 is the creator's personal name. when you combine those two words, then you have the exclamation praise Yah (HalleluYah). to this we utter the Amen, meaning let it be so, or in other words Let Yah be so praised.
when you return to the original names of Yahweh's prophets, it becomes apparent he is indeed Yah. By the way, Yah is the short form of Yahweh which is the full name. Here are examples of the original names of Yah's prophets,
Micah is originally MiykahYah meaning who is like Yahweh
Jeremiah is actually YirmeYah meaning the resurrection, or the rising is Yahweh
Obadiah is in fact ObadYah meaning the servant of Yahweh
This is only just but a tip about Yahweh, whose name by the way means he who exists. It is a revealing name in that it reveals Yah not to be an idol, but one who is, which is also why HEBREWS 11.6 declares that believing that God exists is a pre-condition for pleasing him. Knowing his name and it's meaning would help you in the faith that he indeed exists. Using that name daily becomes a constant reminder and also assurance to your faith in God.

The four letters given to Moses as our CREATOR’s name were YHVH pronounced as YAHUAH. Some people insert a “w” and make Yahuwah which is wrong.
Some people claim ithey were YHWH from which they get Yaweh. Problem with this is that the letter “W” was recent addition. Please google it.
