Big fan of the blades in the dark additions to the game so far. There was a similar element Brennan incorporated into a recent episode of Fantasy High Junior Year that was a super creative way to move through combat and reminded me a lot of the clocks we’ve been using!
So I have always had to do my campaigns online and so I used a online service to save and share character sheets. Well... One day... the service had a little server problem which was unrecoverable and the last back up they had was like three months old. I ended up scraping an entire dungeon because of this but what I decided to do is play out the encounter they left off on as a narrative, before tying in a plot thread from the early game that I hadn't had a good chance to develop, namely there is an ancient goddess of fate that was killed before recorded history and they are trying to figure out what happened during that time, as current forces are tied to that. Most notably, they were saved by who they have every reason to think is their enemies, by using the powers of the dead goddess to warp their fate, which in turn changed them into something... a little different. Basically I allowed them to re-level up their characters and even change old picks for feats and for one particularly unoptimized character, some of their stats. This was quite good since a lot of people really didn't have a long term plan for their characters when they created it, nor the direction things would play out(Many of them basically ignored skills at the start without realizing I liked to use them and would reward them for being able to come up with situations that use more esoteric knowledge or skills, and had to play catch up which made them not particularly good at them) And then we just roleplayed our reactions to everything. Turned the loss of months of progress lost into a plot hook, a way to refresh and fix a lot of characters. Only cost me two weeks of work on that dungeon... *Tired Dm noises.*
318 👀 What is THAT? I see it's Obsidian, but how do you do that floating mind map type thing? Edit: I found out how!! I now have Obsidian up, and am messing with the Graph View hehehe. I use Notion, but I think I can utilize Obsidian alongside Notion. I am running a living campaign/world, and I amass a lot of NPCs and locations and all that. To be able to visualize the connections and everything I've set up already will be awesome. I can see myself getting specified graph views set up for People, factions, plot threads, and rules. I just need to make sure I keep it supplemental, and not overtake what I'm setting up in Notion already hahaha. I think there's room to use both for sure!
Good eye! In Obsidian.md, there's a sidebar button you can click called "graph view" that allows you to see the whole project as a mind map, completely automatic. It's super useful when planning, because you can map connections between elements of your game that you might not have realized were connected! It does it by linking all articles you right that reference other articles, and you can sort/color them according to type, which I also find super helpful
My inner swede is crying at the pronounciation of Askefroea...my poor Askefru. I certainly recognised the Johan Egerkans illustration did you take it from the vaesen myth compilation book or the ttrpg version?
I apologize for poor pronunciation, please feel free to correct me as I couldn't find many sources for correct pronunciation. I found the creature from the Vaesen TTRPG that I found randomly when just perusing a game store shelf
@@BenDeHart i think you might have taken the danish version of it. That is not easy to pronounce. Ashwife also works. Have you tried playing Vaesen yet? (Curious swede likes to know)
This doesn’t seem like a derailed game, a derailed game is if players spent the night talking about their real life problems and not playing, it seems like it just didn’t go as you planned
for what it’s worth, as soon as i saw the cute little plant things we didn’t fight i immediately regretted our choices

I see notion being used for prep, I hit the thumbs up.
Your story is why I don't prep anything, it's all about going with the flooooowwwwww
Love the depth of your world, as well as your willingness to roll with it/stumble forward. Master class ✨
