With no input from the artist I can tell this song is about a drunk dog finding his way into a butcher's shop and stealing a rope of sausages and running down the street.
I love this song! The harmony is so sick. As a matter of interest, Chris Potter played tenor saxophone for this song, and James Carter played baritone saxophone.
My stepmother once told me she considered the Saxophone an "ugly instrument"... ... I'm not one to declare an opinion wrong or anything, to each their own and everyone is entitled to like what that like but yeah... She was fucking wrong
I know a person who really dislikes sax, to the point of basically not being able to listen to it. In that case at least there's some trauma behind it that got connected to the sax. Might be the same for your stepmom. Still wrong. But you know, could be why.
man, everyone in this comment section is so intellectual and making interesting comments on what story the music is telling. I'm just sitting here like "ah yeah this is a funky bop".
Sick pfp, FLCL is my favorite of all time, don’t know why I said this but I just think it’s hard to find people who like it too so just saying, you have good taste
It's one of those songs where you have to be really good to play *any* of the parts. They all have some tricky segments that can throw the entire group if not played perfectly, so the whole group can only be as good as the weakest player. There's no carrying atop another player's shoulders.
I am in love with the bari player! He brings the attitude and funk to this song. I love the accent he [uts on the notes and how clean and crisp his style is
If there were a Cowboy Bebop video game, this will be perfect for the intro theme. :) I could just imagine the background being the interior of the Bebop where Spike sleeps on the couch.
the well-tongued stacatto hits on the bari really make this song go. bass lines can take on the mvp role of a piece of music, and in this case it definitely is.
If you enjoy the alto solo from this song, I recommend you look up Masato Honda. He is the man who plays alto on this song. Also, he is responsible for the alto solo for the intro song Tank! to Cowboy Bebop. The man is a saxophone God. 😵😵😵
I was in a restaurant a few days ago and over heard some dudes from the booth behind me talking about I think a friend of theirs or mutual friend or whatever had formed a band called the seatbelts, Crazy

@purebattle OMG thanks!!!!! I just spent half an hour trying to remember the name of the website to find the sheets for this, so I thought I might as well check the UA-cam vid, and BAM! There you have it! Thanks a lot!
Amen! I've been playing this alto for about 10 years and I struggle to get the timing of this right. The alto solo in particular is full of off beat stuff and runs that confuse the hell out of most people. I agree you cant pay out people for giving up on the solos.
I played this as the alto and that solo is nuts. So sporadic and full of "impossible notes" that are too high of a pitch to hit normally, so you have to do these weird squeaks with the keys pressed down in obscure positions just to hit the right pitch. Also my friend who played the baritone part had to learn how to "slap" his notes which left him with a bruised tongue somehow. This song is marbles.
I love this piece...but I played it for a friend and he couldnt get past 10 seconds; he said it sounded like a flock of clucking chickens. To me it sounds like a bunch of old women on their way to church or tea, gossiping and musing. 0:28 is the part where they find something they all agree with (like the idea that all men are dogs).
There is actually already a french piece about that exactly, it’s called Il Est Bel Et Bon, it’s about a group of gossiping women sounding like hens, it’s usually sung as a choral piece or as a vocal quartet. It has to be sung very fast.
@housedogchicken This song is from the anime Cowboy Bebop. It was being produced from 1998-1999 with 26 episodes and a movie. All fantastic, definitely worth watching through. I have great memories of watching this with old friends in high school on weeknights after school.

that Bari tapping is downright impressive
On some sennheiser momentum's it's a bit like someone knocking you on the head with a sturdy stick.
I'm in love with this bari. His staccato is literally perfect on lower notes, not to mention that beautiful fat sound!
its slap tongue btw

Cowboy Bebop has some of the best music in the history of animation.
I would say in the history of tv/series/movies in general

That’s a weird statement. If anything, the saxophone is one of the most unanimously beloved instruments.
