This was the song that introduced me to metal, back when it was first released (I was 12 years old then). 10 years later, it still sounds just as amazing!
Nazis? Rammstein made this song *in response to* the people who call them Nazis. The video pretty much tells the message: "We don't support the big beetles. We support the little ants." The band members were originally factory workers in East Germany, so they naturally align themselves with the working class.
One of the cooler videos ever made. There is no nazi imagery in here, unless you equate any marching to them. This is much more about a righteous rise of the oppressed to overtake their oppressor.
@yunaeonsummoner It might be an analogy for WWII - The large beetles are the heavily armed and well trained Axis powers and the Ants are the Allies, weak individually but nigh unstoppable when banded together. The last scenes remi nd me of the descriptions of tank battles in WWII, with swarms of Shermans defeating the superior but less numerous Nazi tanks.
This is probloblyone of the best usic videos ever made. Video is perfect for the song. "Sie wollen mein Herz am rechten Fleck, doch seh ich dann nach unten weg, da schlagt es links!"
@Mrahavnes Which we have at the moment (at least in my country), where concession to produce specific type of goods have been given only to few corporations, only without any ideology. Anyway, as I stated before, I can continue this discussion, but maybe through PM, instead of writing a replies under R+ videoclip. Cheers.
@iSoniPrice If your heart isn't racing, and your head isn't rocking... after the first 20 secs, nahhh, it's definetely not one of your favourites....,But to me , it's one of their ultimate songs, & to witness live,, ahhh, excellent! :-)
@QuickStrike0065 Awww...So many difficult words... I'm dazed :o No, I'm not kidding. I appreciate your accurate explanation. That was a great work I couldn't though I want to do, I'm still inexperienced in English. Thanks a lot. Have a nice day and Rammstein!
@MrIakF Is ja in Ordnung :D Ich hatt nie Bock Grammatik und Vokabeln zu lernen, hab jetzt aber schon kontinuierliche "praktische" Erfahrung (zumindest im Schreiben xP) Das wird schon noch :D
@Duststorm1997 it´s true, but it´s marching for many countries not only germany. It just the footmovement which is spoken by the sergeant of the troop. "left, (right foot [isnt spoken[) left , ([right foot]) left , right ( !spoken! ) , left ---> left, left, left, right, left =german: Links ... Links ... Links,Rechts,Links or like in this song ---> left, two, left, two, left two three four, left =german: Links, zwo (for right/two) links, zwo , links zwo drei vier, links (left 2 , 3 ,4 )
that's why the song is so good. I met some german guy in a club and started talking about Rammstein - he said that basically nobody outside of germany understands the lyrics. Links is such a good example because it's their most military sounding songs ( making anybody who doesnt give a shit to instantly think Nazis ) yet anyone who actually looks up the lyrics realises that they're doing the exact opposite. It's basically a way to separate the wheat from the chaff.
@SuperMouseMSE Thank you, I think I got...but not surely. The figurative way like it is often hard to understand for me, sorry. I'm goona learn English more to make sense of it.lol
@altairevan1995 You are partially correct. The lyrics are "my heart beats left" - however, it's a political reference. This song was a response to the allegations of Nazism sympathy within Rammstein. They answered the rumors with this song. And it was brilliant, if you ask me. Greetings from Germany.
Rammstein performed in Greece and they had an afterparty at a vlub down town. I went to the party and got to speak with Paul Landers and I directly asked him (and I feel quite stupid now) if Rammstein are fasists or racists or Nazis. He immediately stopped dancing for a few secs and replied to me a bit annoyed "Do I look like a Nazi?" I honestly said no, so he kept dancing with me with his happy smile again. Guys I'm half African and I'm black. Rammstein are sure as hell NOT rasists or nazis.
Dear uploader, you are almost right. The song is itself a rebuke to people who accuse them of being right wing, something they are tired of hearing. Ants are the ultimate symbol of left wing ideals: working together? Communism? Just noticed the comment below me has made a similar point so I'll leave it there.
The way they use Zwo instead of Zwei is a word used only usually in the Military or in the Austrian dialect, also the fact links 2,3,4 is mocking the left two three four chant used in the army
This song is a reference to the saying "the heart beats left", repeatedly used by Oskar Lafontaine, a famous former member of the SPD (Social Democratic Party of Germany) who was the co-chairman of the Left Party (Die Linke), and almost the title of a book written by him (the title is Das Herz schlägt links instead of Mein Herz schlägt links - "The heart beats left" instead of "My Heart beats left")
If there is any doubt about the lyrics of their music ,there are downloads with english subtitles of rammstein on youtube . Or maybe they should take german language lessons ?
Not sure if it's me, but at 1:32 and to the end of the video, it seems to portrays what happened in WWII between the Germans and Russians, the giant black beetles resembling the German army that descended onto Russia, and the ants resembling Russian citizens and soldiers. Anyone else see this?
@ffssff3 I'm not sure, HuG isn't from Germany (they're either Russian or New Yorkian) and everyone still says they're Nazi- but I guess since there's a chance they might actually be this isn't a very good counter example.
@SeraphimPwnsU I agree. I am an american and have been since birth. I love to talk history with friends from time to time and what i realized is that if Hitler realized all the shit he had...then the world would have been Germany, not as it is today. Sorry about the poor use of grammar and or spelling, feeling lazy XD
1:12 shows the blitzkrieg hammer describing how germany took over other countries called lightning speed tactics THAN THERE IS YOUR FOOTBAL TERM CALLED THE BLITZ this was in world war 2 2:35 ive seen germany in world war 2 make the army formation movement IDK how they march r the same either in world war 2
if you look at the formations, they follow a very British theme, albeit we rarely do it nowadays due to lack of numbers :) the only other nation that had a standing army that did the same was the Roman empire :)
@ibiza4ever1 they used zwo,drei,vier.... it´s just that many american or all english speaking people hear links two, drei, vier It´s the same with Laibach´s "Geburt einer Nation" English people hear Get me a lightbeer but he says Gebt mir ein Leitbild =give me a concept; general principle I talk too much, all I wanted to say is, that they didnt use two in there!
I have the Lichtspielhaus and it's true that the band doesen't appear anywhere as for the sync with music I probably have a better version cuz it's directly from the Lichtspielhaus If you want to check it out here's the link enjoy RAMMSTEIN RULES
Wow !! I don't understand the words but it sure looks like a lot of effort to show the natural reaction of nature to overcoming forces that threaten us.
The title actually means 'Left 2, 3, 4', which is in reference to an army march. However, the song doesn't really have anything to do with an army, but actually the position of the heart. He's basically saying, 'My heart beats on the left', and the 2, 3, 4 might be in reference to a pulse. Of course, it could also be political, but that's all up to the listener. :) In short, nothing to do with military or sausages. Just good old Rammstein.
@Kayruul being of a certain country is about your patriotism and connection culturally and linguistically , i have a mate who has chinese parents but he has an irish first name and has lived in ireland his whole life, i would count him as irish as i am. i have a french surname, does that make me french? no. if i were to live in germany for many years, i would consider myself partly german, though i have no german blood. it's not about the blood you inherit, it's about the blood you give.
If you listen very closely, and I mean very closely indeed, and then if you listen very closely to Rein Raus, you will realise that Links 2 3 4 and Rein Raus have similar guitar chords.

absolutely agree with you... marvellious song and video...
2006 year; I cry how time passed so quickly 😭
@yunaeonsummoner It might be an analogy for WWII - The large beetles are the heavily armed and well trained Axis powers and the Ants are the Allies, weak individually but nigh unstoppable when banded together.
The last scenes remi nd me of the descriptions of tank battles in WWII, with swarms of Shermans defeating the superior but less numerous Nazi tanks.
One of my favs from them! \m/
@Naymy I miss those missions so much, especially the one where you have to evacuate the civillians. That was so badass.
love this video just makes the effect of the song that much greater
la verdad esta de poca madre este video eammtein es lo mejor me encanta
This is probloblyone of the best usic videos ever made.
Video is perfect for the song.
"Sie wollen mein Herz am rechten Fleck, doch seh ich dann nach unten weg, da schlagt es links!"
@Qyburnator Jajaja! I always listen to Rammstein while gaming.
(also when I´m doing other stuff, but..)
Mostly to BF BC2 or Lost Planet ² xD
OMG I forgot how cool this song was after 3 years not listening to it!!!
Nice video with it too, lol!
i have listen to this band for 8 or 9 yrs and i stil love em

Thanks a lot. Have a nice day and Rammstein!
@QuickStrike0065
I appreciate your great efforts. Thanks & Cheers!
@xBlueWinter
Zwei (2) sounds similar to drei (3), esp. with background noise on the phone etc so in the military they say zwo to differentiate it.
@Dannyjop78
I always mix them up, so that sounds like a good plan.
@blackraider777 Oh what a scathing, witty response... The level of comprehension necessary to reach such demonstrates my point admirably.
@thejking no problem, I´m happy that I were able to help out
este grupo me levanta el animo
@Duststorm1997 it´s true, but it´s marching for many countries not only germany.

=german: Links, zwo (for right/two) links, zwo , links zwo drei vier, links
(left 2 , 3 ,4 )
This is one my favorite Rammstein songs. It's so badass
@MrHisares hey thanks for the good translation mein deutsch ist night so gut so i never got the "they want my heart at the right " part, thanks
that's why the song is so good. I met some german guy in a club and started talking about Rammstein - he said that basically nobody outside of germany understands the lyrics. This has to be one of the more bizarre music videos I've ever seen. I like it :D
@Data9183 just the magic of rammstein doin its thing
thank you, you just stopped me blowing my head off. (y)
The symbol that is seen on 1:11 (2 crossed hammers) might very well be a parody on the soviet symbol of the hammer and sickle.
@SuperMouseMSE
Thank you, I think I got...but not surely.
The figurative way like it is often hard to understand for me, sorry. I'm goona learn English more to make sense of it.lol
@psjdb
yes, you are right ... the best of the world
@altairevan1995 You are partially correct. The lyrics are "my heart beats left" - however, it's a political reference. This song was a response to the allegations of Nazism sympathy within Rammstein. They answered the rumors with this song. And it was brilliant, if you ask me. Greetings from Germany.
@PalleRasmussen The SS were maybe not so feared in the begining, but they developed into a full on EFFECTIVE and DEADLY military force...
this is so awesome...watched and watched and I'm watching it again XD
@MrHisares
youre so right ^^
@Brezlbuh yes, look s like a soldier links rechts
@DangerousDerp Yes, even though they're using the other word for 2 (Zwo).
rammstein I never tire of listening to the best!
@xBlueWinter "zwo" is another word for "zwei" and "zwei" means two (2). "Zwo" Mostly used in the military.
Best.Music.Video.Ever.
Rammstein performed in Greece and they had an afterparty at a vlub down town. most bands dont have much input into how there videos are made as far as i know anyway my point is THIS SONG KICKS ARSE ROCK ON RAMMSTEIN!!!!!!
@palmtreehomonculus thank you; rofl I almost asked what HM was (but I figured it out)
@mycakedied That's right, my bad english is in grammatical spanish ;)
@anubseran4774 i bow down to your knowledge!
exelente y majestruoso
@iAMyourSHADOW02
in germany you also can say zwo instead of zwei
Dear uploader, you are almost right. The song is itself a rebuke to people who accuse them of being right wing, something they are tired of hearing. Ants are the ultimate symbol of left wing ideals: working together? Communism? Just noticed the comment below me has made a similar point so I'll leave it there.
świetna piosenka i fajny teledysk
♪♫Quieren Mi Corazon En La Derecha Pero Yo No Miro Hacia Abajo. Izquierda 2 3 4 ♫♪
@HungaryHungryHitler "left, left, left right left. left, left, left right left."
Me acabo de dar cuenta del autentico significado del vídeo y de la canción
The way they use Zwo instead of Zwei is a word used only usually in the Military or in the Austrian dialect, also the fact links 2,3,4 is mocking the left two three four chant used in the army
@FireGrism I second that
@TheBassguy1 It's not two, but Zwo (pronounced tsvo), it's kinda based on a military march.
@MrIakF "gives" heißt immer "geben" mit der Bedeutung von "weggeben", jemandem etwas geben, weiterreichen etc.
Wenn es etwas "gibt", es also >existiert< ist das "There is/There are"
Bloß als kleiner Tip :3
Könnte sonst etwas missverständlich sein, klingt nämlich fast so als würde irgendwas Kommunisten an Deutschland (weiter)geben xD
@ZR2Malibu true but a leader is always needed.
If there is any doubt about the lyrics of their music ,there are downloads with english subtitles of rammstein on youtube . Or maybe they should take german language lessons ?
@gso619 dude, that's awesome :D
I remember learning to play the guitar for this song ^-^ was fun.
the choreography in this video is brilliant
what was meant by that line is that the band doesn't appear in the making of the video DVD.
@MrHisares I thought that "Left 2, 3, 4" was the German term for marching. But yes, this song was made to counter their Nazi acusations.
🌹
@tracefleeman Isn't it Links Swei, Drei, Vier? :P And not Links Ein Swei Drei?? :P
Not sure if it's me, but at 1:32 and to the end of the video, it seems to portrays what happened in WWII between the Germans and Russians, the giant black beetles resembling the German army that descended onto Russia, and the ants resembling Russian citizens and soldiers. Anyone else see this?
2:46 that is one sick piece of art. Makes me wanna march
@ffssff3 I'm not sure, HuG isn't from Germany (they're either Russian or New Yorkian) and everyone still says they're Nazi- but I guess since there's a chance they might actually be this isn't a very good counter example.
Haha, this was an epic respond! Love it!
@Jonx1967 this is the only person who understood correctly the song!
see the name of the song ----> LINKS (LEFT)!!!
@Kayruul ahhahaha thats most of the first encounters between the two ppl lol
@gNetkamiko Cool (: I didn't know there were another word for two :D
Als eine Gruppe, die Rammstein ist die beste und Long Live Rock!
@SoldierSide77 i always thought he was saying "Two" haha >

@rammstein4life93 amen to that!
@HungaryHungryHitler left 2 3 4 is a german military march
He's a clever one. Actually capable of informing himself before rambling. Kudos!

@caillou1970 I was supposed to type "hear". Damn, I fucked that up.

hah, oops.. thanks for that. comes with not paying full attention to the video youre commenting on t hen.
@KamilWow I think that's a question nobody wants answered...
@ibiza4ever1 they used zwo,drei,vier....
it´s just that many american or all english speaking people hear
links two, drei, vier
It´s the same with Laibach´s "Geburt einer Nation"
English people hear
Get me a lightbeer
but he says
Gebt mir ein Leitbild =give me a concept; general principle
I talk too much, all I wanted to say is, that they didnt use two in there!

@iAMyourSHADOW02
they put two in there??? i m sure you mean links ZWO drei vier
in the bundeswehr we use zwo, because zwei sounds similar to drei

@SeraphimPwnsU Despite being horrifically evil, they did kick quite a lot of ass during WWII, particularly during the first few years.
nice Team Work :P
