The west always exaggerated these claims and their own ability in combat. Muslim sources were always objective, and westerners always took advantage of this. Muslims in general were far better at hand to hand combat, cavalry formations and maneuverability, and of course horse archery. The crusaders simply had armor that was better at withstanding arrow fire during the first crusade, could deliver heavy linear charges, and had amazing crossbows. That’s really about it.
