If you purchase land in an opportunity zone and build a commercial building or business do all the tax benefits still remain? Or does it only apply if you build residential property on the land?
I already bought a house in a opportunity zone. I am flipping the home. My question is if I keep the house and I don't refinance to take out some money to buy another house. I will have to pay taxes on the capital gain on the loan? Thank you!
Is there a minimum investment on an opportunity fund? Could I buy one single family home, invest double the structure cost within 31 months, hold for 10 years and cash out with only paying 85% of my original opportunity fund deposit? Am I grasping the concept?
Thank you for commenting, but you are not correct. Here are the instructions to help you when completing the Qualified Opportunity Fund certification with the IRS: www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i8996.pdf Look at 26 USC 1440Z-2 for your basis issue. It is a step up and says quite clearly: (iii) Investments held for 5 years In the case of any investment held for at least 5 years, the basis of such investment shall be increased by an amount equal to 10 percent of the amount of gain deferred by reason of subsection (a)(1)(A). (iv) Investments held for 7 years In the case of any investment held by the taxpayer for at least 7 years, in addition to any adjustment made under clause (iii), the basis of such property shall be increased by an amount equal to 5 percent of the amount of gain deferred by reason of subsection (a)(1)(A).

No taxes on debt
Just purchased 3 vacant lots in an Opportunity Zone to build 3 homes for lease.
That's a fantastic investment opportunity! Best of luck with the project.
