Bigot sandwiches lol I find it hilarious that Ellie can’t forgive the guy who made her sandwiches but she forgives Abby for bashing Joel’s head in with a golf club lol
Well that was kind of the point of that scene. At the beginning of the game she can't even let go of something minor like that and by the end she learns to forgive the person who basically ruined her life. I'm not a fan of the game by any stretch but that was clearly meant as a representation of her arch. You can use that logic to make anything seem dumb. I'm surprised at the number of people that vilify Joel for his actions in the first game and fail to see the context in which these arise. I'm by no means saying he is a good guy, and in the context of the hospital scene Joel’s decision was warranted, but it was ultimately the fireflies who set the events in motion in which they waste their chance at a vaccine ( which shouldn’t be called that anyway). They literally handled the situation in the worst possible way. > they knock Joel unconscious while trying to resuscitate Ellie. > for some reason the fireflies decide to kill Ellie for a chance at a vaccine not even after a day has passed, only having made some basic testing. Why would you rush research for the most important thing in humanity with the risk of not having another chance at it? > Fireflies just keep her sedated and won’t even ask for her consent for the procedure. THE FIREFLIES TOOK AWAY ANY POSSIBILITY OF CHOICE BEFORE JOEL DID (This being a massive plot point in Part 2). You could argue Marlene was Ellie’s guardian and made the choice for her, but the same case could be made for Joel seeing all they went through together and the bond they formed. Also there was a conflict of interest since that decision directly benefits Marlene’s cause. The least the fireflies could do is sit everyone down and tell Ellie what the procedure implies or if there were any other alternatives. Supposedly there was no other way but to kill her, but how can you say that after only testing and researching for less than a day? Already we see flagrant ethical and procedure issues. Which would be enough to warrant Joel trying to defend her. The fact that they ignore all this informed consent process ( at least for the sake of keeping a semblance of ethics and moral compass) basically means that Abby’s father was going to commit murder, which adds to Joel being justified to save her. > Joel then wakes up and gets agitated at the prospect of Ellie being killed. Gets his gear taken and is walked out at gunpoint, after all the bullshit they went through to get there. > Joel, an old man with a penchant for duct-taping trash together, proceeds to slaughter the fireflies to save the only semblance of a daughter figure in the godforsaken world. By the way, Joel killing the fireflies was technically self-defense, because they actively restrain him with the threat of deadly force if he doesn’t comply with the demands of leaving the premise, which also means he was justified to use deadly force to defend himself. TL;DR - The fireflies indirectly undermined their own chances at the vaccine by completely mishandling the exchange with Ellie and Joel. Joel’s reaction was warranted.
Not to mention, the Fireflies DEFINITELY did NOT have pure intentions with a cure. They’re a bunch of desperate people at war with the government, they most definitely would have used the vaccine as a power leverage, especially when you take into account that there’s no way to mass distribute it.
Exactly right, and plus let's assume that they do somehow get a vaccine through Ellie. That's enough for like 25 people max. How do they go about making more with limited supplies, or even making any when Ellie couldn't even find any pennicilin for nearly a whole winter. Where do they go to mass produce such a vaccine if they don't decide to personally profit off it. The military? No they're at odds, the government? Whatever is left of it won't want to work with terrorists. There's no way to even get the vaccine out and even then it won't stop clickers from tearing out your throat and bloaters from ripping apart your jaw. How do they even get to the fucking military, they lost so many of their numbers just getting to where they were at. They likely wouldn't survive getting back, and as for Marlene. In the left behind DLC it's stated that Ellie had only known Marlene for a few weeks. There was very little emotional attachment on Ellie's part and that's stated so I don't even know what Marlene is talking about in the end.
@Michael Williams There weren't other immune people, Ellie is the only one. That audio log was referring to past cases of infected they'd looked at, not those immune.
Yeah but when I played as Joel I knew ellie would want to be the cure so Joel would to. And Joel did know that's why he lied. Joel was not a hero. A understandable human but not a hero. And at the end of the day he took the choice from ellie too. Joel knew what she wanted he KNEW. He was just selfish and human. That's why ellie in the second game had a standoffish relationship with Joel.
I asked the question of “would you let me die for the cure to a zombie virus” because I was genuinely curious (my dads a pretty logical person so there might’ve been a chance he would’ve said yes) and when he said “no” I asked “even if it was for the betterment of humanity?” And he said “I’m not super stoked with how humanity is going anyway” and idk why but I feel like that was the perfect answer to that question for me.
@@The_Electric_54 wrong. Before arriving to the hospital Ellie and Joel had no idea she was going to have to sacrifice herself for the cure. The fireflies made the choice for her first. And in tlou she she says she wanted to due to survivors guilt.
@@The_Electric_54 i never said what Joel did wasn’t wrong in terms of consequences. But saying that Ellie WANTED TO (at that point) is also wrong and just an assuming, because she didn’t know, Its just a fact. In the university section, Joel and Ellie clearly talk about what they thought the fireflies were gonna do to Ellie once they arrive, to which they say they’ll probably just run some bloodwork and be done with it. So no, Ellie didn’t have sacrifice in her mind at least in that moment, saying otherwise is just making an assumption. And even though she says she would’ve died for a cure year later doesn’t mean that her choice wasn’t taken from her by the Fireflies or Joel. Also many people ignore that the fireflies made the choice for Ellie before Joel. The FFlies had all the time to make a good plan, run tests, explore alternatives and yet they still decided to sedate Ellie immediately after finding her unconscious only to conclude she would have to be sacrificed for the cure, and all this in matter of hours. And then of course Joel disagrees and takes Ellie away, and with that also the vaccine/cure. The key difference to me is that Joel’s choice came out of urgency, he had only minutes to decide whether to save Ellie or let her die for a cure. Meanwhile the fireflies had plenty of times to make a pragmatic decision and still decided to impose their choice over hers, without asking out of decency at the very least.
Perfect example really. It’s probably the best looking game I’ve seen on console so far and yet It was rather mediocre overall in terms of gameplay and story. I’m more specifically mad with the story tho personally lol
@@dathunderman4 I think that's what that reviewer meant when she said that basically every game gets a 7 or 8 grade: most of the heavy lifting on graphics and world building is being done by the game engines and those have become very good. I was expecting this game's main focus to be on Joel finally confessing to Ellie about what he did at the hospital and why he chose her over humanity but he literally tells her what happened IN A FLASHBACK like it doesn't mean shit. THAT WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT DECISION JOEL HAD TO MAKE AND HE CONFESSES TO ELLIE IN A FLASHBACK? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? But no, the game focuses on literally nothing anyone cares about.
Ellie starts to resent Joel for taking that choice away from her. She wants to hurt Joel the same way he hurt her. When Joel tells her he would do it all over again given the chance, Ellie begins to understand him, telling him that she doesn't know if she can forgive him but she's willing to try. The following day Abby kills Joel. So now Ellie can't forgive him. That's why Ellie is so irrational and erratic throughout this game. She's mad at herself for not forgiving Joel earlier and spending more time with him, she's mad at Joel for taking that decision in the hospital away from her, and she's mad at Abby for killing him. Honestly the weight of Joel and that decision in my opinion is all throughout this game. What Joel did in that hospital changed all the character's life in this game. Every single one of the character's were affected by that decision. I just wanted to share with you what I got out of this game. If you don't agree that's fine.

The game feels more like the third part in a trilogy instead of a part 2. Naughty Dog would’ve struck gold if they had made the sequel based around the five year gap of 2033-38. Would’ve helped build Joel and Ellie’s relationship and the struggles that it could’ve experienced whilst building upon the preexisting lore of the world. They had all the potential to make an excellent sequel and there are inklings of this potential throughout. But the story, characterisation, pacing and structure held it down so much. I don’t think I’ve been more disappointed by a game release.
So you wanted Ellie to accept Joel's lie and never question what happened in Utah? I see that some people just wanted Last of Us part 1 again with part 2; they wanted Ellie to be 14 again and going across country with Joel *again*; which other games and movies do that, but I love that they resisted it. Sorry, but not every sequel is going to more of the exact same thing.
Always Wrong Film That isn’t what I’m saying at all. I meant focus the game on Ellie and Joel, with the player experiencing the highs and lows of their developing father and daughter relationship as they grow up. I think having Joel and Ellie crossing the country again would be ridiculous and I don’t know where you got that from. I also never said that Ellie should accept that Joel’s lie was truth, as cited when I said ‘and the struggles that it could’ve experienced.’ Moreover, the whole point of my comment was for my to suggest that the Last of Us 2 would have been better as the Last of Us 3. By doing that, the player has seen the highs and lows of Joel and Ellie’s relationship with it ending on a sour note, making Joel’s death in part 3 more emotional and established. Or better yet, the developers could have killed two birds with one stone by cutting down some of Abby’s filler sections of the game with more character building for Joel and Ellie. For all we know, Naughty Dog may revert back and their next game could actually focus on what I mentioned although that’s up to speculation.
@@matthewbarratt6929 But we did experience their relationship; through flashbacks. It would be ridiculous to dedicate an entire game to a narrative arc we can already see coming. If the pendulum swings really hard right with this next generation, Women may just be 2nd class citizens. If all the Courtroom abuse leaning female positive, and all the marxist style feminist propaganda comes up to court after the courts swing right, they might just lose the 19th Amendment in the basis as a positive to society. This has a large backing too.

I’m surprised Dina wasn’t just as upset at Abby for killing her baby’s father and instead shamed Ellie for wanting revenge for killing her father figure and her step-son’s biological father. We just have to wait for the baby to grow up and find out.
It's such a RDR2 knock-off in places, it has Beecher's Hope reproduced in it, just to recreate the drama of Sadie/Tommy coming for a visit to say they have a lead on Micah/Abby, and for Abigail/Dina to whine at John/Ellie, begging them not to go. Your rant about Sony's double standard reminded how insane the whole thing is to begin with. I swear if Sony keeps up their big brother censorship non-sense I'll never buy one of their consoles again.... I'm not saying I need pron in my games, but Sony is supposed to be a "serious console" and yet Nintendo Switch has more adult oriented games. The literal console marketed exclusively to children isn't as uptight as Sony. Oh well, if the next gen consoles end up costing as much as it seems like they will I'll probably just finally get around to investing in a gaming PC, cause I owned an Xbox before, and I ain't goin back to that shit.

"The literal console marketed exclusively to children" Ah yes, the one whose ads feature adults playing it on the go in various situations, like the man who leaves his living room to walk his dog and takes his Switch with him to keep playing. "Exclusively to children". The one with third-party titles like Doom, Dark Souls, The Witcher 3, and Darkest Dungeon. Uh huh.

One thing that isn't mentioned here is the game's weird ageism. Like any character over the age of 30 will get shunned, marginalised and outright killed. The game comes off as a teen drama with gory murder. Which makes no sense because if the current pandemic has taught us anything, it's that teenagers are useless in a crisis. No way it would be mostly dumb teens surviving a zombie apocalypse.

Does Naughty Dog not realize Ellie could've killed Abby during their final confrontation and the story would've worked out the same, if not better? She would've achieved a hollow, pyhrric victory, avenging Joel but realizing its cost her everything to do so.

Some of the things in this are pulled straight out of Uncharted 4, the generator wire enviro puzzle is the winch mechanic from the Madagascar level, the collectables work exactly the same as uncharted, the way the friendly AI is the same in that they're invisible to enemies and break the immersion. The beefy female character of Abby is essentially Nadine Ross, there to emasculate the main protagonist and has a piss weak motivation and backstory, they're even voiced by the same person. Naughty Dog needs to attract fresh talent instead of retreading the old.
I actually liked Nadine. Definitely more in the lost legacy. Which although a bit unrealistic I thought was pretty good. I just can't believe they didn't take uncharteds jump mechanics.
@@nickolaskunz5735 I didn't dislike Nadine but the fact that you have to fight her twice and literally can't win is incredibly jarring with multiple playthroughs. It definitely foreshadowed the direction the company was taking, the first hint was TLOU left behind

@@Narutou01 I did genuinely like the lost legacy. I wouldn't call it a master piece. There where some obvious problems. For instance the nadine and chole have no issue beating every single man in the game. Except the main one for no obvious reason. It also isn't the best for replaying. There's one big level that gets annoying. But I did end up liking nadine a lot more than I thought i would. They played the mercenary side quite well. I didn't really mind nathan having a daughter.
I agree with like 90% of what you say about this. If anything my thoughts on this game are a little harsher in some spots. (I didn't like Dina. She's kind of toxic.) I also felt like the gameplay, despite it's few improvements, was actually a step back. The dodge mechanic just makes the combat feel wonky, and it was just slightly more frustrating at some points. (They also really went a little too happy with jump scares.)
I don't know what Naughty Dog was thinking but they totally fucked Abby's story by having her kill Joel so early in the game and with such savagery. After that, no matter how much Naughty Dog tried to humanize Abby, no one was going to care about her backstory. Most players just wanted Abby dead!
The Last of Us Part 2 was everything I expected it to be, an mediocre sequel, with mediocre characters, decent writing at best and directorial decisions which made me think if the main objective behind the game was to just create an controversy. And just as I expected after it released, the controversy exploded, burned for few months and then everyone forgot about the game. 10/10

"The last of us 2 has somehow manage to take all of these exact same components and turn it into a boring, unsatisfying, unfulfilling, and annoying experience. it has also made some gamers less sympathetic towards gay and trans characters in video games. this game is not just a shit game but it does shitty things. in my opinion, its fueled bigotry and gamers will get the blame for neil druckmans trolling, and therein is the point. this game just like anita sarkeesian is a giant troll. it was a good franchise with well-loved characters. then cuckman gets a hateful and unsympathetic hormone abuser to kill one of them. mutilate the other and get her self buggered by a rando and then when gamers complain that it is all fucking stupid. we will all get accused of bigotry and we paid for the privilege. in a moment of madness, however. a subversive thought crossed my mind. there is a completely different way to interpret the story. Joel is representative of traditional values. Ellie represents the generation that embraces sexual tolerance and sexual equality. Abby represents and embodies the current wave of ultra-progressive hateful, angry identity politics, and vicious hypocritical rhetoric. You could actually read the story of the last of us 2 as an allegory about our current political climate. Traditional and modern social philosophies of tolerance and equality can exist together quite happily like Joel and Ellie. Until some spiteful half mental gender non conforming third-wave feminist proto-fascist comes along and fucking destroys everything we loved and cared about out of a perverted sense of justice."
Nuance is not allowed in 2020. Sorry m8.
As a father of 3 and a sufferer of depression and anti social anxiety disorder, I can 110% agree with your dad.

@@The_Electric_54 You'll make an awful parent letting a less experienced, less intelligent person, i.e, a child make life and death decisions.

@@dathunderman4 I think that's what that reviewer meant when she said that basically every game gets a 7 or 8 grade: most of the heavy lifting on graphics and world building is being done by the game engines and those have become very good. @@RebornGalaxy I agree that they give us great games, Ghost of Tsushima literally prevented the PS4 from ending on such a sour note but this dog shit still needs attention. 100% majority of criticism will forever fall on Neil Druckmann but Sony also didn’t do their part by either not realizing or not caring that Neil Druckmann was too full of himself to lead this story with a co writer that had just as much of a dog shit mentality as him. Sony put money into the first game because they obviously wanted it to do good and Neil was carried by other writers for part 1. That game did great and became a PS4 classic. When it comes to TLOU2 they won’t say or do shit because despite the massive amount of valid and reasonable negative feedback, too many journalists sold out for this game and too many people were hyped and pre ordered which resulted in the game winning unnecessary awards and GOTY. Shit like that makes Sony look good so they can’t really do much except making sure that fucker Druckmann doesn’t touch anything more important which I highly doubt since Neil was recently appointed the CEO of Naughty Dog. A question nobody asks is how did they even know it was Joel who killed the fireflies? He killed all the ones at the facility, then the woman at the end begging to spare her life and in Joel's own words said "You'll just come after us." and shot her to tie up the last loose end.
Any other fireflies walking in and seeing the place would reasonably assume that it was the government agency who raided the place and wiped everyone out and be none the wiser.
Obviously, if Niel explained it, it would be a sequence where Abby at the hospital finds a recorder in the hospital that has Joel's voice in it along with him saying his name like an idiot. Or fireflies panicking and saying his name. But even that stupidity would be too much effort so Niel just magick'd Abby to know it.
It should be named “The last of 2 of Us: The first of Abby”

@Wim you're exactly right. And I'm sick of how all the simps just turned on Joel cause Cuckmann told them too.
@Wim uh, fuck that. if we're in a post-apocalyptic world and someone starts shouting racist or homophobic or misogynistic shit, you're still getting put in your place. you need to be able to trust people in this kind of world, and you can't trust people who hate you for who you are. without laws and borders set up in society, people turn into animals, and start raping and lynching and killing each other for stupid reasons, as we've seen in this world -- anything that sows hatred between other people need to be stamped out.
@Wim if that's what you took away from this game, too bad for you
I was expecting this game's main focus to be on Joel finally confessing to Ellie about what he did at the hospital and why he chose her over humanity but he literally tells her what happened IN A FLASHBACK like it doesn't mean shit.

Problem when you make a GAME based on characters and storyline: The the characters are unlikable and the storyline is broken, the game doesn't work, at all.
I think that's part of what makes older games work, honestly, before every "AAA" release required 2+ hours of cinematics.

I also never said that Ellie should accept that Joel’s lie was truth, as cited when I said ‘and the struggles that it could’ve experienced.’
Moreover, the whole point of my comment was for my to suggest that the Last of Us 2 would have been better as the Last of Us 3.
Nothing new would be discovered if part 2 was made they way you (and others) wanted. It wouldn't be compelling. It would be boring.
@@SuperSaiyan3985 Again, it sounds like you people just wanted The Last of Us Part 1 again. You want Ellie to be a 14/15 still and want Joel as the main character again. And many other games do do that. Other companies will give you the same game again in their sequel(s), but ND didn't and instead decided to produce something much more creative and challenging. Art is all about taking risks and that's exactly what they did.
@@SuperSaiyan3985 They did explore the ups and downs through the flashbacks. Clearly the creators didn't think a plot centered around dramatic irony (that's where the audience knows more than the main character) was compelling enough for an entire game. Tell me exactly what were the liberal propaganda aspects of the game? Because if you think it's simply representation: a trans character existing; then you've got some serious fucking problems. But go ahead point out the propaganda.
I thought they took a lot of ''inspiration'' from the (Rise of the) Tomb Raider. From enemies calling out to each other, to enemies alerting each other to where you are, the stealth killings, the survival instinct mechanic that Lara has, the smooth transition of moving through tight spaces, the bow and crafting of different arrows on the go....even the black UI is similar. If I didn't know better, I'd have said they nearly copied many aspects.
survival instinct was in last of us 1 too. so was the name calling, once.

I really hate the time we live in now. publishers making shit games and being protected for it, while gamers are being censored and ridiculed for having an honest opinion
Old people don't know anything. Duh.
Are you a boomer by any chance? How the fuck are teenagers the ones being dumb in the pandemic. If anything it's Trump and the boomer politicians that are useless.
@@nathanielyee9203 no need to attempt to shoehorn real-world politics into this.
Surely there are, literally, several hundreds of thousands of other UA-cam videos that would be a more appropriate place to express your perceived unhappiness?

Heard TLOS2 changed it's branding, trying to get some sales during December. So, I sent out an e-massage to some friends, one I found, was thinking of buying the game, having just learned of it. So expect some more people watching your work. This made me smile.
Druckman did to Joel what Rian Johnson did to Luke Skywalker, fucking shame
RIP JOEL. 2013 TO 2020, truly an amazing character. RIP JOEL YOU WILL ALWAYS BE MISSED.
The last of us 2 was such a disaster and so political it made me sick to me stomach. I was so excited for the last of us 2 soon as it got announced but like most modern games now zero effort shit story line bad character design and ruined by political agenda
where in the world was there politics in this game? please, point it out
Everything is political
@@alexx123ify weird way of looking at life, but ok
It wasn't SO POLITICAL, no idea what you're talking about
@@jamesliggins891 because politics play no part in life whatsoever /s
You would think Abby would start to have this question on why Joel killed her dad before she went for the Double Joelgy. I mean it’s been 4 years
Especially since he saved her life
That would require good writing. Yet this game....does not have it.

It just occurred to me --- The story of the main hero(es) being targeted by relatives of the villains of the previous story/chapter was actually done already in the movie Taken 2.
That means that The Last of Us 2 isn't the Schindler's List of videogames..... it's the Taken 2 of videogames!
Does Naughty Dog not realize Ellie could've killed Abby during their final confrontation and the story would've worked out the same, if not better? She would've achieved a hollow, pyhrric victory, avenging Joel but realizing its cost her everything to do so.
The only human immune to an infection would be: A) A jailed Blood-bag B) A jailed breeder
LOU2 is like having a quad amputee defeat Yoda in lightsaber combat with their mouth....too stupid for people who love "Space Wizards" heh.
"My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."
Said a vengeful soul once when its vengeance soared high
And thus a writer decided that a memorable quote must apply
To his own little baby he thought to be just as deified
The writer thought and thought but wit is hard to come by
And then catharsis struck and Druckman yelled "Banzai!"
For his memorable quote, one for the ages just clarified
And thus Ellie yelled "Motherfucker!" a time or five
During her climactic battle with the plot-armored bad guy
Writing is hard, that Druckman knew and that was why
The sauciest he can do is still way too dry
@@Narutou01 it is annoying after a few times. The lost legacy is even more forthcoming with the way they where headed. I was actually surprised by the end of the game that Chloe and Nadine weren't a couple. I never played the left behind dlc. I heard enough to realize what they where up to. Last of us is perfectly fine with out it
@@nickolaskunz5735 yeah, I didn't bother playing lost legacy. I was already pissed off that they didn't give Nathan a son which is what the original writer intended but of course druckman changed that. And I really wanted Spin off game with Sam and Sully instead
> *An Hour and 20 minute long video.*
> *Talks about not liking Last of Us Part 2.*
Get ready lads, the fanboys are coming!
An hour and 20 minutes? Guess I'm canceling my tee time!
I bought kingdom come deliverance for £24 instead of this and i havn't regretted a minute of it.
I just wish that when they started boasting about the game featuring a jump button, you could hear Mario say: "Imma have to go slap a bitch, wahoo!"
