i saw my dad cut his toes off (thru a boot) with a chainsaw, when the chainsaw/log slipped. I was about 8, so over 40 years ago. It was terrifying, but it also solidified my own coping skills... watching my fathers reaction became the way I handled trauma from then on out. He never passed out. Managed to instruct me properly on the best way to help and had shown me how not to overreact and stay in control of an out of control situation. Everything ended well. 100% full recovery and no PTSD to either of us.

Perhaps they should have mentioned the type of “machine” Buddy was talking about at the end of his interview. It was a bowling lane in his home - the pin setter. Took away from the interview tremendously.
You could tell his son was trying to fight back tears so emotional, taking about what happened seeing his dad goes through something like that So brave. Get well soon 🙏🏽♥️
Buddy didn't become Cake Boss by a fluke...he's a hard working and determined man...he shall conquer this as well. ...just like the true Boss that he is🙏🏾💖
Buddy’s “old school” baking and piping talents made him famous, around the world, star of his own television series and a VERY wealthy man; including, giving his family, a chance to make money! So I guess his “old school” skills, have served him better, than your newer, modern techniques. Newer and younger, doesn’t always, mean better!!!
As a retired chef, I cannot imagine my “working” hand being that injured and the prospects, of maybe, not being able to work or create, with that hand again! It has to be devastating, to say the least. This man is famous for his cake creations, for running a family business, for making his family name famous, around the world! He is a modern icon of success, in the US. We all do stupid things at times, without thinking of the consequences. Really look at his son’s face during this entire interview! I think he would benefit from some therapy. He is still traumatized! Buddy’s sons and his brother, will never forget the scene they encountered that day! This tragedy has affected the entire family. How could it not? I hope and pray for Buddy’s complete recovery and that his hand, will be creating masterpieces, once again!
@@katherinevaladez5227what are you even on about? "Your newer modern techniques" 🤔🤔I'm 41 years old and learned old school piping as well.(not nearly as skilled as Buddy..nor will I ever be) I say very clearly in my post that his "old school" piping is very talented(no insult at all)..and btw "old school", is how he refers to his own piping skills.👍 How about you actually read someones comment before going off on them. 👍I myself was a classically trained pastry chef at the Culinary Institute of the Pacific with a speciality in Asian Pacific cusinse..I truly understand what this injury means and it's why I worry so much about the skills he has not being able to be done by him or carried on. How about you calm down before you post again💕
It wasn't rude. He had to. They were timed and had to move on to the next segment and his boss on his end likely told him to move to the next question. If you watch the news regularly then you'd know this is seen pretty much every news channel on a daily basis.
That was my thought to!His son does look as if he is staying "brave" not crying, he needs a good hug and to let it all out! Glad his family were right there, I hope the cake boss and sons heal quickly! My prayers are them
So sorry you're going through this. My father in law was a surgeon and he NEVER EVER picked up a garage tool, any type of tool. Never risked injuring his hands. Hope you recover quickly with no permanent injury. 🙏🙏🙏
Elizabeth Hutson not too many people have personal bowling alleys in their homes although other accidents can happen. He never mentioned his hand got pinned on the jammed machined that resets the pins.
If you know your hands are an integral part of your livelihood(I don’t mean an auto mechanic) such as he does, you don’t want to be sticking your hands in broken machinery.
That was one of my first thoughts when I heard about the accident. The people helping him (especially the kids). Did the right things but seeing something like that happen to someone (especially your dad). Messes with you head for a good long time, if not forever. Hopefully with time and some good coping techniques this will be easier for everyone to process.

I posted above. I think Bc that would take away from his injury. Like oh, let’s not everyone get distracted by the fact that he’s a wealthy reality Star...
It’s true that when one is in a situation such as this, calmness takes over so as not to freak-out anyone involved. My son was playing with his cousins and his hand went straight through a glass window. His forearm was shredded in 2 big gashes. When I saw him, my mind was panicking but I didn’t show it because I didn’t want to scare him. I remained calm. He came out with 8 stitches and a gnarly scar. Thank God he was ok.
My son put a metal broom stick, one end on the couch and the other end on the coffee table and tried to walk on it. ..the stick broke in half and the metal sliced his leg open like a razor blade. I was upstairs putting my daughter to bed in her crib. When I came down to what looked like a horror movie, blood everywhere, my heart stopped...but I stayed so calm, like SUPER calm. I guess even under fear our parent brains will keep us calm. My son was around 6 at the time and was already scared. ..he stayed oddly calm too though, I don't even think he cried (is a blur now lol, he'll be 19 in feb) he ended up with a nasty scar and some stitches...thank god it wasn't worse
Thank God he’s okay. That feeling of calmness he felt I believe came from God. Praying for his recovery and that this experience brings him closer to Christ
Sorry but your brain goes into shock or you faint 😬 in these things its called fight or flight and wakes up your survival instinct this is why you are calm even though your missing a finger saying it not that bad guys and everyone else freaking out about it

This whole thing just gave me bad vibes. They played this happy, upbeat song and the beginning and those interviewers were incredibly disrespectful. He’s just been through a traumatic accident and I don’t think the questions they asked were appropriate, especially when they started talking to his son. Also, one of the interviewers was smiling and actually laughed a little at the end. Talk about rude.
i agree but actually in some situations , when people feel uncomfortable in certain situations or in situations where people don’t know what to do, that awkward smile or uncomfortable / nervous laugh is what naturally comes out.
A representative said Valastro’s hand was injured when he tried to repair a malfunctioning pin setter in the bowling alley at his New Jersey home on Sept. 20. His hand got stuck in the machinery and, unable to withdraw it, he watched as it was impaled three times by a 1½-inch metal rod between the ring and middle fingers. Valastro’s sons - ages 13 and 16 - used a reciprocating saw to cut through the rod and release their father.

"Cake Boss" Buddy Valastro spoke at length Monday about a "terrible accident" at his home bowling alley in which his right hand was impaled by a machine. ... Valastro said his right hand, his dominant hand, was stuck in a "fork" in the machine and was then punctured by a blunt metal rod.
He wasn’t straightforward, and skipped around. It’s almost like he might be on lots of painkillers, and dealing with some crazy trauma he went through just a week ago...my guess is that his brain isn’t working exactly the way it should be right now. As someone who’s been through some crazy injuries I can attest that being asked to explain your accident, or answer questions while on painkillers isn’t always the most coherent.
So sorry Buddy . I heard about you last week and I was shocked to hear about the accident. Praying for your full recovery and back to you cake station.
You are 100% right. At 3:10 when Buddy was trying to finish what he was saying the guy literally wouldn’t stop taking and actually PUT HIS HAND OUT to stop him...the most important part of journalism isn’t talking but listening. Especially after going through such a traumatic event and being asked to do an interview, the interviewer should at least be respectful and let him talk :(
It's live television, time is limited, they would've done it to anyone if they needed to, there's no polite way of doing it but it's their job at the end of day

Really hope he will recover very soon...
U again 😳😳😳😳
Oww Right 👁👄👁
u again
We meet again -_-
Back at it again
God bless his son who is clearly stressed/ re-living the terrible event as Buddy tells what happened.
His Mom was probably there to comfort him. God bless in his healing.
His kids have really grown so fast and his son looks so sad like he’s fighting back tears. Such a close family and so much fun. You should have called the ambulance, Buddy. Just take it easy and enjoy your time off work. I know how proud you are of your sons too. God bless you and your in our prayers !
I love this family! GOD BLESS them all
His son still looks scarred. I would be traumatized also if I saw my dad in that condition lord I’d be freaking out. Kudos to that young man 🙌🏼🙌🏼
i saw my dad cut his toes off (thru a boot) with a chainsaw, when the chainsaw/log slipped. 100% full recovery and no PTSD to either of us.
or just nervous from being on TV? haha
The only thing to do after this horrible situation is to relax and eat cake.
He must feel depressed, When I broke my dominant hand I went into a downward spiral of depression, I felt so handicapped, could not wipe myself, comb my hair, brush my teeth, nada. I pray his family stands by his side and nourish him back to health. His hand will never be the same again. Now a life of constant nagging pain in that hand. I pray he recovers fully and totally. He is an artist and works with his hands. Awesome designs and work he has done and I pray will continue to do so. Prayers are going out to you and the family.
My husband whose leftie had to get shoulder surgery on his left shoulder so he had to learn how to wipe with his right hand... after he was done healing and went back to go and use his left hand, he couldn’t do it!! So now he can only do it with his right hand nhshahaha!!!!
I have issues with my off hand rn and I’m having a hard time I couldn’t imagine if I had the same with my right
I shattered the head of my right humerus. Life changing. Two surgeries and eventually joint replacement. You don’t know what you’ve got till it gone.
If only more insurance policies would cover occupational therapy, your lives would have been significantly 'easier' throughout your struggles that followed your dominate hand injuries.
That was how I was when I had to recover from surgery for almost 2 months. I was not allowed to walk unless bathroom or going to bed.
I hate how journalists have to interrupt people when their talking just let the person tell the story
They have limited time for each story.
Tv has limited time and he’s rambling and slurring. He knows the deal though. It’s their job to move the piece through and not lag.
Marco looks so uncomfortable,he looks red in the face like he's gonna cry...
It was a bowling machine in the bowling alley at his house. He was trying to reset the machine and got caught wow that had to be painful 😖
Thanks, I was really confused about what type of machine they were talking about
Crazy! On one of my school field trips a kid stuck his hand in one!
Emily Salyer is the kid ok..?
Thanks I thought Giants game and machine??
Crazy Tv?
That is ironic.... didn't an episode of 911 have this exact same thing happen in it? 🤢🤢🤢
Perhaps they should have mentioned the type of “machine” Buddy was talking about at the end of his interview. It was a bowling lane in his home - the pin setter. Took away from the interview tremendously.
Right. I was so confused
Thank you !
wow i thought it was some type of cake mixer/machine :/ jesus still thats a crazy accident. a bowling pin setter
I thought they were taking about the tv monitor because they were watching the game
What type of “machine”?!? Confusing...
You could tell his son was trying to fight back tears so emotional, taking about what happened seeing his dad goes through something like that
So brave. Get well soon 🙏🏽♥️
Imagine we lost him 2020 would be 1 million times worst I’m glad he is good 🙂I wish the best for him and to heal fast
Yess omg 😳
I love your chimmy
Viviana Ruiz aww tank you
Yes, 2020 has been bad enough. We don't need to loose The Cake Boss! We just lost Eddie Van Halen..😢
Lisa Rickerson really I don’t even know who that is but rip
His son looks uneasy as he is recounting the story. You know he loves his daddy! Speedy recovery Buddy!
Buddy didn't become Cake Boss by a fluke...he's a hard working and determined man...he shall conquer this as well. ...just like the true Boss that he is🙏🏾💖
I sure hope he recovers fully and is still able to use his old school (very talented) piping skills. ❤ God Speed Buddy.
Katherine Valadez - I don't think this was an insult "old school" is actually how he refers to himself
That male interviewer cut Buddy off while he was telling his story. Just started talking over him. How rude.
That is just how news works. There are time limits because there are more questions to ask.
Not only are there time constraints on live TV shows but if you have two guests, you want to give each time to speak, which he did.
When your on the miss there's a delay as well sometimes you can hear
Fun fact: Buddy is still talking!
It wasn't rude. He had to. They were timed and had to move on to the next segment and his boss on his end likely told him to move to the next question. If you watch the news regularly then you'd know this is seen pretty much every news channel on a daily basis.
Your son looks so sad .I think your son will take longer to get over this than buddy ..good luck all
Declaring healing in Jesus Christ name for Buddy!
Amen..
Amen.
KELLY PASSALAQUA amen
KELLY PASSALAQUA Amen!
Amen!!!
Why would the reporter talk to his son? He’s clearly about to cry. He’s traumatized.
That was my thought to!His son does look as if he is staying "brave" not crying, he needs a good hug and to let it all out! Glad his family were right there, I hope the cake boss and sons heal quickly! My prayers are them
because buddy was getting off topic .... he’s obviously on heavy pain medication. His son is there as a buffer when conversation stops flowing
His son was there to be interviewed too, being that he was the one who saved his dad ! 🤦🏽🤷🏽
Christy ToK that reporter was also smiling (the man)
Really??? I must of missed that and I watched it 2x!! 😆
Get well soon Buddy! The bakers of the world are rooting for you!
Your father in law is a smart guy
Accidents can happen with literally anything else. But I guess that's one way to mitigate risk.
If you know your hands are an integral part of your livelihood(I don’t mean an auto mechanic) such as he does, you don’t want to be sticking your hands in broken machinery.
The son looks so traumatized rehearing that event. I mean I dont blame him, i would be too
Everyone looks more traumatized than Buddy does.
Agreed
That was one of my first thoughts when I heard about the accident. The people helping him (especially the kids). Did the right things but seeing something like that happen to someone (especially your dad). Messes with you head for a good long time, if not forever. Hopefully with time and some good coping techniques this will be easier for everyone to process.
😔😔😔
The guy reporter did a terrible interview! He cut him off in his story? No consideration n the end was condescending poor cake boss you can still he’s still in shock n his son is still shook up ... prayers to him n his family
When the camera first cut to the guy doing the interview he looked like he was trying to stifle a laugh. He looked up and saw the camera was on him and straightened up.
I completely agree
@@LisaCSCO he looked more like he was wincing
Fake news anchors with their fake personalities and fake empathy.
Why does he look like the older version of Mason Disick??
kourtney will send you to jail for this comment but IM DEADDDDD
frrrrr
I thought I was the only one who noticed pls
True 🤣
Omg he really does
Oh my god I thought the title said ‘terrible accent’ and I was like “well that’s kinda mean” 😭😭
😭😭
Lmao
STAHP IT 😭😭😭😭
LOL
I laughed harder than I probably should have. Poor guy tho
Tragic accident... terrible interview! Let the man finish his sentence! Many prayers for Buddy to heal completely! One awesome advantage he has is his family will be there for him every step of the way! 💕
Bizarre interview. They never clarify what “machine” caused the injury. Why is it a secret?
Bowling alley
No for real
I posted above. I think Bc that would take away from his injury. Like oh, let’s not everyone get distracted by the fact that he’s a wealthy reality Star...
Watch Wendy's show for the tea ☕
@@ThisBitchOnCamera he has a small 1 lane bowling alley in his basement.
My mom gets calm... i reach panic level 101
Reading this is like 😳
I’m so thankful your baby is okay 🌹
That’s terrible I hope he is okay..
Thank God he’s okay. That feeling of calmness he felt I believe came from God. Praying for his recovery and that this experience brings him closer to Christ
I was going to say the exact same thing thank you for pointing that out for ppl that BELIEVE🙂🙏🏾
Amen, Jesus loves us all
His Momma guardian angel kept him calm.
Sorry but your brain goes into shock or you faint 😬 in these things its called fight or flight and wakes up your survival instinct this is why you are calm even though your missing a finger saying it not that bad guys and everyone else freaking out about it
He seemed to be a very loving caring loyal respectful son...
And you know this how?
SRS As parents age and their health deteriorates and they reach a stage in their life where basically they need care like a baby again ( diapers, being fed, bathed, carried, etc) .
Much respect for the people who display gentleness and decency for their aging parents.
That’s simply my observation.
And you have yourself a very fine evening!
✌️
God kept him calm
I lost my left arm to from just below the elbow down. I was involved in an auto accident and it was crushed beyond repair or salvage. That was my dominant hand. I was able to learn to use my non dominate hand to do fine and gross motor skills and ADLs. Get yourself when the time come an awesome Occupational Therapist and Physical Therapist. One who specializes in Upper Extremity injury. They are not a dime a dozen but do exist. Most of all be determine. No and impossible are two words that should not be in your vocabulary. Be patient but tenacious. You will get through this.
Lisa Batista much love ma’am ❤️
That's terrible, I hope you are better now. Sending you lots of love and positivity. X
LiSA Batista: your words are so encouraging, Thankyou 🙏
My boyfriend is going to school to be an occupational therapist. I'm so sorry you had to go through this. It's so nice to hear your experience and how PT has helped you.
Wow! what a story! Hugs and respect to you!!!!
I've been such a huge fan of theirs. This just proves it even more. I truly loved watching their show every night. Get well soon Buddy and good job Marco for staying calm! Much love from Oregon.
Wish him well and full recovery soon, sounds a horrible experience
As a cake decorator myself I can’t imagine. I wish the best for him and his family. Keep your head up and keep moving forward to a speedy recovery!❤️
You have such a close knit family I am sure they will see you through this horrible accident. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Your son is a rock for staying calm. You must be so proud of him.
Buddy’s mom and dad from heaven are watching over him.
Buddy mom and dad passed away now!!!! When! It’s been a long time since I watched cake boss
StarDolleights like 2-3 years ago :(
Linda Pennypacker aww they passed :(
I like how the interviewers are like “what the road to recovery for your RIGHT DOMINANT hand?” And “crazy HORRIFIC accident’’ like they might as well have said “ ur career is ruined how do u feel bout dat bro?” 💀
Emily Ramirez pretty much the truth. He’s a determined guy so I’m sure he will work hard to get his hands working as well as possible. At least two surgeries already! Uhg
@@kimberly_erin honestly, buddy seems so passionate about his job I can see him learning how to pipe with his non-dominant hand
pretty much... so insensitive and dumb
His poor son is heartbroken bless him he’s lovely. Wishing you a speedy recovery, stay strong your family will carry you through. Bless you all ❣️
What brave kids to help their Dad in that type of emergency... Good for them! Wishing Buddy a full recovery.
I won't be surprised to see and hear his son baking and decorating cake just like his father soon.
Marco, you have helped your dad so much you should be so proud of yourself that is amazing what you did you are so brave!!
i am praying that he will be recovering physically and emotionally soon and will be baking again.with God nothing is impossible.I'm from the Philippines and I'm a fan of Buddy.
Sending prayers to buddy and his family.
I saw the machine and some interview but i didn't knew it was swinging back and forth with his hand still in it. Prayers for your recovery Buddy! ❤🇵🇭
I thought he got his hand caught in a giant mixer and then I read bowling accident I'm not sure which is weirder.
Haha, I thought as well
Yep, just a "typical Sunday" at the bowling alley in my house...RICH PEOPLE PROBLEMS! Still, I Hope he recovers and gets well soon 💖
@@daysgoneby7826 my thoughts exactly..
This was a bad interviewer! He never clarified what kind of "machine" was involved. I first thought it was the TV that he was about to watch the Giants game on!
@@annsjostrom2377 That's what it sounded like to me too at first
Aww his son looks so upset and understandably so. What a brave kid.
Buddy I truly wish you a full recovery. As an amazing artist, I can't even imagine how frustrating this must be. You have a wonderful family, I'm so proud of your sons for their quick actions. Much love out to you. ❤️

Lo siento mucho chef "CakeBoos" pronta recuperación para que continúe con sus preciosos trabajos con todos sus compañeros bendiciones y muchos abrazos desde Puerto Rico.
He also agreed to do the interview so clearly he was open enough to talk about it
Jayda Edh yeah of course but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t still be respectful and consider his situation
yooo jess ok I see. That part makes sense now but I still find the other things and their behavior sort of rude and inconsiderate
I do not even see the rude you speak of? I did not feel like the smiles and giggles were them making fun of his condition.
So glad that you are okay and did not lose your hand. Now you can take some time to heal and spend time with your family. Love from Botswana.
Ashley Sea thank you. I searched for this bc I did t know what happened.
Aahh !!
The sons handed the uncle the tools, the kids didn't actually do the work. But would of been very scary for them
THANK YOU
Finally someone knows what’s going on - what an uncomfortable interview - gma - flopped this one
His son was obviously traumatized! It rips my heart out to watch....
Brother, you had angels right there with you. Peace that passes understanding!
I mean he’s lucky he still has all his fingers from the way it sounds.
What a sweet young man of a son Buddy has. 🙏🏼❤️
Praying for a full recovery...proud of the young boy's reaction!
I'm not even buddy's son and I'm traumatized...
Same!
Buddy is going through so much lately. Losing his mom and I think a friend.
Oh my gosh I didn’t know his mom pssed
@@paulablevins5594 The show was dark for a minute. I think it has been a few years but her presence being missing in the baker was obvious and impacting everyone there. Was hard to watch
She died a while ago... old people die, you know their time is coming. Really you want your family and friends hanging on to every last breath for you when they are in so much pain and suffering...let them go.
It was a horrific “freak accident.’ More importantly, he survived. Thank goodness his sons were around! Life is being able to be flexible, cope and adapt to change. It will soon be a “new normal.” All the best to the Cake Boss and his family always!
That calmness was his parents watching over him for sure! So glad he’s okay!!
Does Natalie bother any one else the way she cuts people off and acted like she barely wants to hear the "kids" side of the story lol anyyways... God bless Buddy , I know this is life changing for this man and family
Lol the other guy interrupted buddy too. I'm sure they're supposed to try and move the story along.
Rebecca Higgins yes she does
I really didn't notice her acting rude or disinterested. I even rewatched the part with Marco and she seemed to respond appropriately to me.. As another commenter mentioned, their job is to keep the story moving.. They only have a certain amount of time to get the interview completed.
The segments have time limits. They gave to interrupt to keep it moving. They probably ran out of time to let him keep talking.
YES. the BOTH of them....let the man talk, jeeze!
So sorry to hear about the accident. Your son looks so emotional about seeing you like that. Love thoughts and prayers for you and your full recovery. You are the cake boss always.
Marco is still so scared just hearing his Papa talk ... I wish you a rapid recovery the spirit of you Father was keeping you calm...
God sent an angel to look over them. Sending prayers for his healing and recovery.

I love Buddy. My inspiration!! I’m praying for him and his family!!! Speedy healing! God bless him!!
Marco had his dad's back what a hero!! I can't even imagine what buddy is going through..i pray he has a full recovery and he can use his hand at full range.. His nephews are heros too!!
God bless all of them..
Thanks for that summery lmao he wasn’t so straight forward lmao
Yeah, it was confusing 😕
He wasn’t straightforward, and skipped around. It’s almost like he might be on lots of painkillers, and dealing with some crazy trauma he went through just a week ago...my guess is that his brain isn’t working exactly the way it should be right now. As someone who’s been through some crazy injuries I can attest that being asked to explain your accident, or answer questions while on painkillers isn’t always the most coherent.
Thanks! I was like, “machine”? What kind of machine? I was thinking some sort of cake thing, lol.
I love your work, your family, your story, your show is my favorite! Definitely praying for a full recovery! God bless ❤
Oh no...I just heard about this. Can’t imagine the pain and fear. Those boys are amazing. Prayers for your speedy recovery. 🙏🏻☹️👍🏻❤️
He does have a bowling alley, I remember seeing it in one of his episodes. His sons are hero
So sorry Buddy . I heard about you last week and I was shocked to hear about the accident. Praying for your full recovery and back to you cake station.
This male journalist... how to make a person feel unimportant. Rude interruption.
You are 100% right. At 3:10 when Buddy was trying to finish what he was saying the guy literally wouldn’t stop taking and actually PUT HIS HAND OUT to stop him...the most important part of journalism isn’t talking but listening. Especially after going through such a traumatic event and being asked to do an interview, the interviewer should at least be respectful and let him talk :(
They have a time frame they needa meet and questions they want answers to so they did what they needed to do🤷♀️😶
It's live television, time is limited, they would've done it to anyone if they needed to, there's no polite way of doing it but it's their job at the end of day
He wanted marco to participate i dont think it was rude
