I live in Huntington WV. My parents have fossils of ferns on the part of a hill they own. I love to dig them out. They are in sandstone and very delicate.

That's cool! How big are they? I only ever found tiny snail fossils whatever they are.

    This is so cool.
Love seeing videos of people exploring our lovely state for fossils.
I go out in the woods behind our house and am always looking for something along streams and creeks. I’ll find a lot of shell fossils, but nothing major yet. Just small things, even though 300 million year old fossils are pretty cool alone. However, just being outdoors here is something that is a treat in itself.

The fossil at 1749 really reminds me of scales. I'd love to see a picture of the dragonfly. If you ever find another please take a pic. A picture video featuring some of the better fossils would be awesome. I just moved to Southern wv. First time I've been in a city setting. Appreciate your vid. Very cool

Love your channel, and yesterday I got a huge surprise watching this one. I also watch Mudfossel University, and I have learned from him a few things about rocks. I sent him this video, I noticed a woman's private parts. Also the tube with the tree has got my thinking cap on. Plus the scales, look just like scales....thanks for sharing

Most of the scaly looking stuff you found is isn't critters, it's fossilized bark. Calamities, lepidodendron, and a couple of others I can't think of off the top of my head, etc. The little round bumps were little branch buds, sort of. A good fossil book (I really like the Audubon Fossil guide) will help you a lot. And a good geologist's or masonry hammer will help a lot too! Cool vid!

Up here when I worked in the copper mines of Michigan the worst thing we had to worry about was what was known as the ash bed collapse, that is when you turn rolled into volcanic ash that had not turned into rock it would collapse at one lick. If you was working in the lower levels you always had to worry about rock falls. Even sometimes we would run into a slate bed that would collapse on the miners. Now and in the Coeur d'Alene Idaho working at Kellogg and the Sunshine mine rockfall was always a very dangerous possibility unless you got in there and roof bolted the ceiling and the ribs very good. And the second worry we had out there if you worked on the very lower levels what miners call a bump that is an underground Earth tremor which could result in the ceiling collapsing but in many cases it was the floor of the mine that came up and hit the ceiling, if I remember correctly the Atlantic mine in Michigan's upper peninsula internally from a series of bumps, fortunately it occurred on the weekend and there was no one underground it just collapsed in on itself kind of like you grab a milk carton in your hand which would represent the tunnel going down to the work part of the slowly collapsing on itself from all four sides. The other has heard that they faced up here especially in the iron mines was having underground water rushing into the mine and grounding everyone. The famous Barnes and heckled mine fell victim to this, when a shaft was cut under a river and it collapsed into the work area of the mine and killed everyone. Similar incident occurred in Minnesota at mine,

That fossil at 17:16 looked like the scales of some creature. On second thought as you showed that tree up close and the othe similar "Leaves," maybe those are the leaves of that tree

Very interesting video Leo, thank you very much. I did not know that you
were into this. Those fossils were COOL! You make a very good tour guide. I have two questions if I may?
Those auger mines are interesting, is entry into them forbidden? Also, where did you find that " fossil " on the back of your ATV?

Never thought of it, but makes sense that a lot of fossils would be near coal seams bc it’s formed from plants.
