Extremely interesting video - I didn't know SharpCap Pro did this - it is my least used bit of software (though I bought a perpetual license for it)! I always wanted software that can recommend optimal duration subs for my gear per specific target - and hey presto here it is. Most other astro photography videos with ZWO cameras in Bortle 2 - 7 skies come out with analysis that shows use 10 - 30 second shots (in Bortle 5-7 zones) and only go for 120 - 180 second shots in Bortle 2-3 skies (to optimise S/N). Here is the first video I have seen were a recognised calucator checks your gear and night skies and target and recommends long durations!
This is also my least used bit of software. I use this exclusively for exposure recommendations and it does a very good job of it. I haven’t found any issues with the S/N that the recommendations produces either! Keep in mind, sky brightness and filters used will also affect the recommendations depending how much affect the filters have.
I'm not sure I have the equipment good enough to guide for 6 to 8 minute frames. I wonder what the program would come up with if the target was a galaxy. Being new to all this I don't know how to image one night then pick off where I left off a couple of nights later. I'm still working up to be able to set up in a reasonable amount of time and then image for 2 to 3 hours, take my flats and hopefully be packed up and in bed before 1am.
I am positive you are doing just fine and this takes time to learn. Just the fact you are reaching out and striving to learn and get better is amazing! This is your growth chart so hold onto all of this experience because you’ll be looking back and seeing how far you’ve come!! The AVX just might surprise you, however, I am in process of a more in depth video with SharpCap’s smart histogram. I am hoping to have it out either tomorrow or Friday, so stay tuned for that as I am going to show you how to adjust this and still maximize your signal to noise!
If Sharpcap has your camera already set up in it (It has a lot of Camera settings pre installed, If your camera is in its list, it has the settings it needs - There is a way of checking this but I can't remember what it is) You don't have to do a sensor analysis as its already been done at Install.
Yes, you are correct. In most cases, if SharpCap has your camera pre-installed, it should already have sensor information in there. Keep in mind, each sensor is different, even though it is the same camera model just like fingerprints, so it is still good practice to do a sensor analysis to get the maximum benefit.
Great video, thanks for making it, it's hard to find quality videos on SharpCap, will be checking out more of your videos. Thanks
Thank you! I actually have one going a bit deeper into this coming out in a couple of hours.
