Actually, a specially formulated tape for repairing damaged aircraft is available to airline mechanics. It’s amazingly strong and useful as temporary fixes. Quite scary for a passenger who witnesses its application, however.
As my late husband used to say, if it's stupid, but it works, then it ain't stupid.
