How to Install and Test Crankshaft Position Sensors | Project 944

  • This week I finished replacing and testing the crankshaft position sensors on the Porsche 944 in an attempt to fix the strange movement in my tachometer. It did not solve that problem but it did result in a pleasant surprise. I hope this video helps someone else with their installation or helps you figure out how to test for the correct installation position.
    Short Guide:
    Position D: Closer to the cabin, Pins 27 & 8
    Position B: Farther from the cabin, Pins 26 & 25
    Resistance Range: 600 - 1600 Ohms

    Don't probe open face of the split terminals. That connector has thentop covernthat slides off and the sides have secondary terminal latch strips that come out to reveal probe ports. When newer style connector bodies are used then use a male terminalmor a hammered flat piece of copper wire to fashion a male terminal(s) for VOM use.
