Insane Clown Posse did their gimmick in a genius way in my opinion. Not only did they leverage the clown/carnival gimmick to stand out, but they would use it as a basis for their albums and various songs, making the entire thing very cohesive. Most of these failed gimmick rappers seem half hearted in their devotion, but ICP brought up the clown aesthetics regularly and mixed it with their trademark horror content well. A lot of people hate them because they seem vapid and dumb but some of their songs are genuinely incredibly impressive and thought provoking, with songs like Mental Warp or Amy's in the Attic.
