This is the first song I ever heard by NF. At the time, I was honestly on UA-cam just trying to find the angriest songs I could find. I have problems processing my anger and I liked how angry he sounded so I kept listening. Song changed my life and let me know I wasn't alone. This song really gets to me because I grew up in a dysfunctional family. It seemed like the only way you could get anything was if you were yelling and screaming and fighting about it. Problem is, when everyone be yelling and screaming, no one is listening. So I kept my anger quiet. I played peacemaker, the mediator and joker to six angry people. It messed me up so bad, man. I now have depression, anxiety, and avoidant personality disorder. I will literally walk out of the room when people start raising their voices. My first response to opposition is to placate my aggressors and get them to calm down. And I have problems processing certain emotions. I'm still dealing with the fallout of my childhood, but I've come a long way from where I used to be. NF is for real my therapy. Best man and musician out there. (Don't mean to rant. I can say for myself, NF is my favorite artist, because I have depression and anxiety that I’ve delt with. I was one of those people who grew up watching my mother be beatin by my Father and not being able to do anything. I was also that kid who would cut their wrist. Eventually there was a period in my life, where I was planning to end my life, and then I found his music. I went through his whole catalog and it pulled me out of the hole I was in. It’s not per say a solution to my problems, but it’s kind of like medicine that puts me into a mindset to deal with the problems.
Very true, I remember how ppl used to say NF was copying Eminem, that shii was annoying but when he came out with Therapy Session, everyone was like woah “who’s that guy”. I’m just glad NF have his supportive fans who been with him forever.
There is lots of symbolism and imagery you’ll see that carry throughout his videos, this one is the birth of the fake smile that later you’ll see he has painted on in later videos
My life is very similar to NF’s.except it was my dad. I’m a 37 year old mom of 2. Married. My multiple diagnosis are Major Depressive Disorder, CPTSD, suicidal ideation, OCD, OCPD and ADHD. We tend to be stronger than others because we tend to be more empathetic, the idea of someone suffering how I did/do breaks my heart and I know what it’s like and don’t want others to feel like I did/do, ESPECIALLY kids/teens. I take on a lot of other peoples pain and struggle which ends up making my own mental health worse, it’s a constant game of tug of war
I grew up in foster care with my older sister and her and my foster mom were always yelling at each other. So I had to be the good one and after she moved out I can’t be the strong one anymore but my foster mom expects me to still be the strong one. So I couldn’t tell her that I’m struggling with my mental health. Everyone expect me to keep my mask on and when I complain I feel like no one care like they shrug it away and do really take what I’m saying into account. Whenever I say that I’m overwhelmed they say well when I was your age... and that makes me so upset and I shut down.

Bring your girl a box of tissues for his song, how could you leave us. 29 year old man heard that song, the first nf song, New born daughter, hearing that song made me think about how grateful I am my kid doesn't have to go through what he did it brought some tears. He really wore his heart out on his sleeve.
NF has completely changed my life over the last two years and I love watching as other people get into his stuff because, as you said, his music is very thought-provoking! He gets you to think on things in your own life and confront problems or fears you've been avoiding.
Wow you guys did an amazing job at the reaction and breakdown of this one. You are really getting NF. This is the first time he uses his iconic “painted on smile” you will see much more often. Yeah this is therapy for him but also helps so many others. Great job!
I think it's because people who are affected with mental health never want anyone to feel the way they do so they go out of their way to help others, at least that's what my therapist told me.
Brad when you brought up having to be strong and Lex hit on single moms that hit deep for me. I remember being in high school and having my mom break down and tell me how hard it was for her and that everyday she had to struggle with her depression and wanting to end her life to escape it but suffering through it to take care of me when my dad wasn't there.. Before that night I never would've guessed she felt that way. I appreciate the hell out of y'alls content and yall just gained another sub 🙌
My #1 fave NF song.....heard it thousands of times, and still get goosebumps EVERY time I hear it.....his emotions on this....WOW....#nfrealmusic 4life 🔥🔥🔥🔥
From personal experience the “Rock” in friend groups or any type of situation, the one that helps everyone through their problems rarely has time to think about their own problems and find the solutions they need because they are focused on the needs of everyone who depends on them. Every rock in a friend group needs their own rock.
Story time: I heard NF for the first time 3-4 years ago, from a kid that was dealing with severe depression and anxiety from my church. He came up to me one day and asked me to listen to this song, and at the time I'm ashamed to admit, I didnt understand the significance of the song he was playing for me.. I told him it was a good song, and just went about my business. The kid is fine and is doing well now, but he went through a whole lot more the next few years, that if I had known NF like I do now, I would have recognized his cry for help. His parent blamed him for a lot of things what were outside of his control. He came from a broken home, had ADHD, and anger issues. But he's a good kid, just had too much bottled up inside of him from the trauma in his past. Once I started listening to NF more, I would talk to him about it. He told me he would play NFs songs when he had suicidal thoughts and it would calm him down enough to not commit. I wish I had understood at the time he played it for me. The rap and mainstream music industry find this taboo and don't want to recognize that there are children, teens, and young adults that are hurting out there. And the music that they promote do nothing to help them, and often projects a message of a glamorous life that is hallow and meaningless. NF is a true artist that only cares about sharing his life in a way that connects to those that are hurting. It's why his fan base is so passionate.. He's the person they listened to during the darkest of times, and felt that someone understood. Love your reactions, keep em coming :) it only gets better
"often it seems that the people who are the strong one for everyone, those are the ones who struggle with depression the most"...dang Lex that's deep but hard to deny that it aint truth and it's like how does that one who is the "strong one" vent/let it out.....like they (the strong one) are so use to being the shoulder to lean on but whose shoulder do they (the strong one) lean on; for by doing such a thing, shows them (the strong one) vulnerable and has those who are leaning on their shoulder, question if they (the strong one) are a strong shoulder to lean on for those who rely on that shoulder for support
I'm 39 years old now so NF is quite a bit after my time as far as being a kid and absorbing music but to your point about his music helping people through their issues, making them feel like they're not alone...I'm a big metal head (love all music but metal is where the heart is) and theres always been metal that deals with personal struggles, abuse, etc and it has definitely helped me through some shit. Even these days when I'm going through shit, theres songs that either let me feel that emotion deeper or theres lyrics that stick with me that shows I'm not alone in my crazy thoughts or whatever it is. Growing up people used to say that metal (and rap to be honest) drove teens to depression. I argue the other side. Depression drove me to metal. But it also drove me to folk music. Rap music. R&B music. All music. So many of the best songs in the world in any genre are built around sadness or other f'd up things in someones life. Music IS therapy.
I find it really endearing that Brad's mom was there for Lex 😥 Thank you for sharing a bit of your story. I really enjoyed this video. Can't wait for the next one!
Lex... girl you made me cry. It's not a bad thing, it just hit me, what you said... I am that "strong person", on the outside, who everyone in our circle of friends confides in, I am the one who everyone comes to with everything. No one, when they confide in me, knows that anyone else has. It's truly overwhelming at times. They all come to me, but who can I go to? It can definitely be a struggle. Sometimes when I hear words like "Can I tell you something?" I just want to scream "NO!!" but I can't... because they count on me to be there for them.
Sooooooo good guys! I’m loving these reactions. Man what you said about racism and people’s stories, just being kind because we don’t know anyone’s whole story...I loved that. And Lex, your idea about creating community where adults who had experienced trauma could mentor teens, that was exactly what I tried to build in my 8 years as a youth pastor! It was so hard, and you have to have boundaries so that you don’t burn yourself out carrying things you are not meant to carry, but I just wanted to say that your idea is a good one and it really helped the teens
I love watching you guys feed back on Nathan’s ( NF ) videos.. y’all are genuine and I love that. There’s a lot to see in the videos and lyrics and y’all do a great job at picking things out.
He talks about stuff that most people see as taboo. But all things that are taboo are happening more and more and getting talked about more and more. I’m thankful that he speaks about this in such a real way and so transparent because even when some people talk about it they try to downplay it but he doesn’t. He shows that it’s hard and it’s not easy and as someone who has struggled with depression, self harm, and suicidal thoughts I’m so glad that there is someone who talks about it in such an open and real way. He’s amazing and we need more people in the industry like him. I also love yalls analysis of the lyrics and yalls transparency about how y’all relate to it.
Not just kids. NF honestly helped save my life. Im a Christian but from Tampa and had a struggle with many things he actually talks about. I’m almost 44. Been a fan for years and I’m so excited for the journey he’s going to take and show you!
Tampa here! Love the reactions guys. NF is different on every level. My favorite is “Only” from the Search album. There is so much greatness yet to come for you guys.
As always, great reaction, very solid insights!! I am impressed that you had the foresight to hardly be offended when the homeless lady called you that awful slur, thinking there must be something else going on with her. That takes a real wisdom and maturity to step back and ponder if the aggressor is going through their own traumas and struggles, especially when you had the clear right to be hurt and offended by that racial slur. Major props. Racism is easily another one of those real topics that can be hard to talk about and many will actively avoid conversation about it, it will being either too painful or too uncomfortable... Also y’all are so cute together and genuine, it’s great to see:)
Great reaction. You guys are the reason we love the NF Journey! My opinion is we all need therapy because of Junior High school. You have just leveled up on your NF Journey! Believe it or not it gets even better from here on up! Each album gets better, and The Search album is on a whole other level!
13:00-13:21 you got it right there, brother. That’s what I got from it, as NF writes his music it’s like he gets to look into the mansion (his head) clearly, or clearer. And as he sings n raps n gets in the flow he sees this stuff that’s in the video. Idk you got me thinking, y’all got me hooked on watching your videos lmao
Comment for the algorithm! You guys need to be shown more love. This channel is amazing. Thank you, AGAIN, for taking us on this journey with y’all. Much love!
I love watching y'all's reactions. You've met him, but for me, this is the first song I found where I felt like I started understanding the Journey. It gets even deeper and eye-opening in his coming albums. Enjoy it and keep making great videos.
You guys dove right into this journey. I'm watching all 62 of these in order. Eminem- Castle and Arose in that order back to back. It's an incredible story
Absolutely love you guys🙏💞 keep up the grind! Keep touching on deeper topics! We need more people like yall, willing to listen and try and think of solutions.
NF expresses truth and more importantly his truth. People who react or perceive his music negatively put weight behind the phrase that "truth hurts" and it seems that they can not deal with that fact.
When you mentioned the people who are strong for everyone else are the ones who deal with the deepest depression, as a psychology student, we go over that. Those people are always there for other people but yet have no one they can go to. Or at least they feel like they can’t. NF could also feel pressure because if he stops making music, what’s gonna happen to the kids that say his music is the reason they are alive. Great video guys!
I really felt it when you said something about the ones who have to be strong for everyone else being the ones who are going through it the most because that's been me my entire life and no one seems to notice or even care as long as I keep doing what they need...
Regarding 12:07, I think the ones that have to be strong for others and yet suffer, maybe have some form of ptsd. I’m the mom that ALL of the kids come to for help and it is SO hard to just listen and not act. But it also gives them a chance to learn if I can offer advice. I’ve been floored how often they actually follow my advice, let alone how thankful they are to receive it, or even just an ear. Several of these kids are now adults and have babies of their own and now they come to me for parenting advice and they call me their children’s grandmother. It’s truly an honor if they choose you as the adult they trust enough to talk to. And yes, I was an abused child and a runaway. I have 3 sons and I’ve never screamed at them or laid a hand on them. All 3 are WONDERFUL. One is an adult, 2 are teens. So it IS possible to break the mold you were brought up in.
The music is honest and vulnerable. Limited filler. I'm a huge Hip Hop head, but this cat is just different. There is something for all of us. Add to it that he has an amazing cadence, imagery and can flat out go and we have one of the best to ever do it.
The craziest thing is I’ve been to two of his concerts and there’s people there that are in their like 50s-60s jamming out harder than I am. The concerts are so good his perception album was very deep and that concert was so good and everyone in his fan base seem so nice and caring like we were all there for that it was such a crazy experience if we ever get more concerts I’d definitely recommend you go it’s a different experience
You guys missed keep on from the mansion album. Really good song that really helped him become famous. Air1 is a Christian radio station that played it and it helped him blow up!
His music is his therapy and fans going through things in their lives find therapy in his music also. When he writes his music it's a therapy session for him. That's the way another NF fan explained it to me
Being able to express yourself and say what you've been thinking and how you're feeling out loud, in a way, is its own therapy. So I think he's saying that by unlocking the doors and being able to talk about his pain and thoughts is helping him through it, much like a real therapist would.
My favorite part about watching reactions videos to NF is seeing people experience him for the first time. I wish I could go back and experience it all again. Been listening since Mansions release and as depression started climbing to its peak. I'm so glad to see others enjoying, relating, and finding a place within his music/community.
This is the birth of the joker smile NF will paint in his face in some music videos and during his live shows. “You want me to walk on the stage with a smile on my face when I’m mad? And put on a mask? For real though.” All NF albums give different concepts and things he uses in the future. Mansion is the important concept that his mind is a mansion with different rooms being different emotions and more importantly the concept that he personifies his emotions. Makes them people or as is they are their own ... being. He visits the concept A LOT and comes back to it. Even on his most recent album (The Search) on a song called Leave Me Alone- he says “I don’t need advice from my doubts right now. End of conversation.” His doubts are something that is able to give him advice. Therapy Session is the birth of the joker smile. People say “oh make happy music. Don’t be so serious and depressing.” And even in the most recent music video he put out “Paid My Dues” which was December 2019 and a direct response to Rolling Stone he has the joker smile and in the end is drawing it on paper with the title “Lost” above it. Very possible it’s the next album title possibly. Nate will give Easter eggs. A lot. Perception is the concept that his fear has him locked in a cell that is his own doing and in reality he has the keys. He has always had the keys to happiness. The Search birthed the black balloons on a song called “Why” and from the song the search which is technically INTRO 4 so to speak he mentions that he has burdens and points to the balloons. So the balloons are burdens.
I had neighbors whose kids were my best friends. There father was messed up and violent. When we realised the problem we called child protection long story but they were removed from the situation it was hard on all of us but in the long run it was the best thing for them. To this day I love and miss them...
Great vid! I love your respect for his music and movement, and having been through similar myself, you're doing a great job representing it to youtube and analysing the lyrics! I'd recommend putting the lyrics on a different screen or looking them up on your phone/google since the youtube ones aren't very good for music and can't keep up with Nate, but you still caught the bars even when they were off screen which makes me happy
NF goes into topics that people usually avoid, I love how he embraces every emotion.

Wow you guys did an amazing job at the reaction and breakdown of this one. You are really getting NF. This is the first time he uses his iconic “painted on smile” you will see much more often. Yeah this is therapy for him but also helps so many others. Great job!
Saweeeeeet! We're finally getting it lol. Thank you! 😄
I think it's because people who are affected with mental health never want anyone to feel the way they do so they go out of their way to help others, at least that's what my therapist told me.
This may be my fav NF song..I still get chills. This is the thesis song of NF’s music catalog. Basically the summary
THIS is the one I’ve been waiting for y’all to do! Love the content!!
My #1 fave NF song.....heard it thousands of times, and still get goosebumps EVERY time I hear it.....his emotions on this....WOW....#nfrealmusic 4life 🔥🔥🔥🔥
The way you two break down what he says, makes me go even deeper than what I saw on surface value. You guys are awesome! Keep it up!
These nf reactions got you another sub. Straight 🔥🔥
🙏🏽🙏🏾💯💯💯💯
From personal experience the “Rock” in friend groups or any type of situation, the one that helps everyone through their problems rarely has time to think about their own problems and find the solutions they need because they are focused on the needs of everyone who depends on them. Every rock in a friend group needs their own rock.
I love how you two talk through the meaning of the lyrics! Your getting it. You have probably hear it before, but just wait!
Brad really so understanding for the lyrics and what really NF means like wow, only the real people will understand NF's real music, well done Brad!!
Lol 😂 Her expression when he paused it 1:18 🤣🤣🤣
I caught that too 😂😂
I'm 39 years old now so NF is quite a bit after my time as far as being a kid and absorbing music but to your point about his music helping people through their issues, making them feel like they're not alone...I'm a big metal head (love all music but metal is where the heart is) and theres always been metal that deals with personal struggles, abuse, etc and it has definitely helped me through some shit.
My fav reaction from you guys so far! Loving going on the Journey with you two 💜💜
I find it really endearing that Brad's mom was there for Lex 😥 Thank you for sharing a bit of your story.
I'm here for this journey!! Just binge watched the first 8 videos, can't wait for more. Great job guys, love the reactions keep it up!
Same, 😆
Not just kids.
NF honestly helped save my life. Im a Christian but from Tampa and had a struggle with many things he actually talks about. I’m almost 44. Been a fan for years and I’m so excited for the journey he’s going to take and show you!
A Christian as in like I know who I give credit to but I’m not the church stereotype is all
I didn’t start opening doors and going on my therapy journey until I discovered him actually... real music is real life for the real fam
I just wanna say y’all are by far my favorite NF reactors. Keep killing it
Much love from Orlando. Enjoy this journey ill be following :)
Thank you!! Oh wow, you're just up the road
Tampa here!
Love the reactions guys. NF is different on every level. My favorite is “Only” from the Search album. There is so much greatness yet to come for you guys.
I dont normaly like reactions that talk a bunch, but together you guys feel out the lyrics and articlate so well. Cudos !!
Real is real. He also pronounces every word fully.
And his fan base is open to all. We all go through pain.
I can't wait for the perception and the search album.
That's when it gets super 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I appreciate your content! NF is the real deal and brings attention to real issues. Keep up the great work y’all!
Alright, you got me. I’m hooked watching you take the journey. So many great songs. Not all are deep, but even the hype songs have a message.
Yes it’s here early!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Much love!
Thank you 🔥🖤 we are just kicking it with y’all, didn’t expect it to be so deep but we love it! Life changing
I just asked for more NF and I went back into your channel and found some awesome 👏 thanks guys!
here earlyy 🙋with nf journey 🔥
I pray y'all don't skip any songs on The Search album.. NF has come a long way since Therapy Session
We’ve got the official journey list to follow! 🤞
Grindin, Got U On My Mind, Oh Lord, I Just Wanna Know, Real And Warm Up
I’m so ready for the next couple of songs by yall
I really felt it when you said something about the ones who have to be strong for everyone else being the ones who are going through it the most because that's been me my entire life and no one seems to notice or even care as long as I keep doing what they need...
Jeez 😞 That tends to be how it goes 💯 until there’s a breaking point
I love NF because he helps put the emotions and state of mind most have trouble putting into clear understandable word^^
Yesss excited ❤️
I can’t wait for them to react to “Let You Down”. That is an emotional song and video.
I especially can’t wait for the “ wait I’ve heard this before. This is NF?”
You guys missed keep on from the mansion album. Really good song that really helped him become famous. Air1 is a Christian radio station that played it and it helped him blow up!
Too bad Air1 changed...
Your right, I agree.
His music is his therapy and fans going through things in their lives find therapy in his music also. When he writes his music it's a therapy session for him. That's the way another NF fan explained it to me
NF is amazing !!
Helped me out through my tough times!
When you get the time you should do the journey of The Weeknd
You guys some how turned the bass up like crazy did anyone else notice that
Being able to express yourself and say what you've been thinking and how you're feeling out loud, in a way, is its own therapy. So I think he's saying that by unlocking the doors and being able to talk about his pain and thoughts is helping him through it, much like a real therapist would.
I’m a big NF fan. Would love to see you react to NF’s song that just dropped today. Thanks for going on the NF journey. I’ve enjoyed your reactions.
You both have such beautiful souls 🥰
Thank you Sarah 🖤🖤🖤
Oh fyi YALL just popped up on my feed. Ive subbed and liked!. Keep up the great work yall. Ill be here
Real and raw reaction. I love it.
#Outcast #NFrealmusic #NFjourney #NFreaction
Ok all caught up on the videos. yall the real deal love it
Enjoying every video guys! Real talk.✌️😊
