To talk is to useful to understand each other.About there likes dislikes about their preferences etc.life should start from that.i feel so.
Talking before doesn't help the future partners to understand each other. My daughter was talking for six years, then got married. From the time they got married there were arguments and disagreements. Finally after 19 years of married life with two sons ages 18 and 13 they got legally separated with bitter mindset, it has been a almost two years now. After the separation she went under severe depression, stayed out of work for four months then gradually got back to normal after taking medication and counseling. She is back to normal doing fine in her career, but I couldn't get over from those memories until now.
Arranged marriages are the best for youngsters these days. Parents will go through the family background thoroughly, parents will get better ideas about their children's life partners. Currently break up before marriage has become common which is better than divorce after marriage.

Change is the only thing that is constant in life. We need to change with times. For instance, the groom might want a reception because he might think others.i.e. the girls family will accept it etc.... this short film reflects a huge communication gap. I feel Kanakadhara is being stubborn and not mature

What is a true vaideega marriage. What is a true vaidheega lifestyle. Can anybody give clear answer with hundred percent conviction.If Vagheega groom is following vaigheegam only as a profession but not as lifestlye,
how much Swaminathan and family are true to vaidheega lifestyle. They are living in modern bunglow. Using all modern gadgets and amenities.
Kanakadhara is asking questions and tries analys herself . She has the self respect so she feels that standing on the reception dais is illogical . All these are due to her education probably. Are these acceptable in true vaideega family.
If she does not want to see the groom and accept parents' decision as gospel( sorry .. Vedhas), then what is the purpose of her education. This is an arranged marriage and all the arrangements will be done by the parents and the bride or groom dont have anything to say. ( Whether they follow tradition or modern or mixed , it is upto them).
It is not possible to follow hundred percent vaidheega tradition but with mixture of modern systems. Only the percent varies from family to family and generation to generation.
Even though engagement is done on the previous day of the marriage engagement as a function has become a tradition in brahmin families( This might be a cultural thing rather a vaidheega tradition). If bride and groom familes belong to different cities and marriage is generally arranged in bride's city , to facilitate groom's family friends and locals to attend engagement is arranged in groom's location.
Reception before actual marriage is a bit illogical but again for the people unable to attend next day's wedding.
One important question:
If watched carefully Bharathi uses the word Paanigrahanam as the ritual for marriage. It is true that Paanigrahanam and Saptapadi etc., are the main rituals in vedic style marriages. Tieing knot ( தாலி) is not in the list which is a cultural thing mainly followed in South India only. Whether Kanakadhara will accept this tradition or her inner self will not accept this being non vedic practice. If this is acceptable ( how much illogical it may be) then some modern traditions also can be accepted. ( Like boy and girl meeting before parents meet, engagement function, talking in phone once alliance is fixed etc , which have some logical reasoning,).
Dowry system once prevailed ( dangerous than Covid) among brahmin community is slowly vanishing now due girl education and earning capability. Moreover parents also give share to them.
