    Only recently found your channel. But I'm really enjoying the format you have and the way you go through differences of adapters cables etc. But one of the best things is that you also provide spreadsheets/tables of the data you collect which is great to look through after watching a video or when re-watching one. Chargers are less sexy than the things they charge and there are many options to consider. A few years ago this channel didn’t exist to shed light on how chargers work-thank you for going so in depth and continuing to stay up to date on fresh reviews and comparisons! The only way this could be better is when i check your website that it’s similar to RTings. One thing i don’t have the sense is true yet is how you weight variables and score each item.

    UA-cam recommended some of your videos and I can say your channel is great. I've watched about 20 videos from your channel, in spite about 30% of devices are not available here in Ukraine due to 220V~50Hz and some brands decided to skip EU for some models. Anyway, I got all the answers to questions I had, and it is strange there are not so many views. Also, you have good sense of humor. Wish you luck with your channel, you must get at least 10x views for most of your tests and reviews.

    Nice review! I bought my baseus for really good price so I'm not disappointed, but after great 100w desktop and campact(?) adapters my hope's was that 140w one would be chart topper too. BTW my had some coil whine too, but after some, noise went down significantly.

    Thanks for the video, one question i have, can you still let the cables plugged in with nothing attached to it, without messing the first usb c port output power ?
    Or as soon as you plug the cables even without devices connected to it, the charger enter in sharing mode ?

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  11 місяців тому +1

      So, as long as you aren't apple (or a wireless charger), you are good. Apple USB C lightning or magsafe cables force power delivery modes and cause the other ports to not have as much power. USB C-C cables do not do anything until the device is plugged in.

      Yeah, I have thought about adding ripple (which bandwidth dependent is noise voltage), just have an AC coupled multi-meter always showing the value. I generally comment when the DC voltage is out of the USB tolerance otherwise I let it go. They are all compact switching power supplies so ripple and noise are generally on the higher side. Thanks for the suggestion. There are always improvements to be made.

    Are the safety listings different between those power adapters sold in North America and Europe? Got a Baseus 160W today and it doesn't state anything (just the CE marking? does that mean anything?) but thenI checked on their website and actually the logos and prints on the back are apparently different.
    Edit: I meant if they are different in the way they print the logos or not, since I understand they would test the HW for certain safety listings but the logos are only printed for the corresponding market.

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  Місяць тому +1

      Yes, they are different. The standards may be essentially the same, but how they certified is different, in the US and Canada they require marking the product that it has been tested, and this is traceable in a database and a report is available stating what standard, etc. In the EU, there is a database but the certification is more self service. The CE or UKCA can indicate it went through some of that or not. It is surprisingly more loose yet also extremely strict, the rules are really hard to decipher. They do have IEC standards to the US's UL standards for all of this though and many products require testing still they just don't use the same labelling system.

    The Baseus 140w adapter appears to split 100w + 30w on both USB-C ports as advertised.
    The OEM clones sometimes do not advertise this clearly or in some cases incorrectly (claiming 35w or 30w, when it is actually 20w.) Not a huge difference, but buyer beware.

    Hello, I recently purchased the Baseus 140w for a trip I am going to make to Japan (100V), but I didn't realise it was rated for 110-240V. Do you think it will be a problem? Other Baseus power adapters (such as the 100W model) are rated for 100-240V so I am not sure.

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  Рік тому +1

      Yeah, so the basic thing that happens is as you decrease the voltage the input current increases. The Baseus adapters are power factor corrected so you can use ohms law to calculate the change. It is basically going to use an extra 0.1 amp of current to run on 100V versus 110V, it should tolerate this extra current without any issue. If you want to insure it doesn't get overloaded only use it up to 100 watts.

      Yeah, I never purchased any HyperJuice things, but that was the only product from them I was like this should work okay... Yeah, that shouldn't be broken after so little use, that doesn't make any sense. I doubt it is a cable issue, but I always say check the cable as process of elimination. It sounds like some kind of protection is kicking in and not resetting but all conjecture since I am not there experiencing the problem. Unfortunately, I'd say get another one and try again.

I've gotten it for basically nothing as I had to dump my company loyalty points into something due to a job change, so as you said... Have you tested much the video option or capability for these newer USBC cables?
    I've been seeing that any USBC cable providing >100W doesn't provide any further capability that a USB2.0 device can do. Perhaps these PD3.1 cables replace some of the data transfer lines in order to achieve the power performance.

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  Рік тому +1

      I haven't tested video capabilities. I will state if cables claim that capability though. They wouldn't replace anything, the only difference between the EPR and standard E-Mark cable is the chip. The wire gauge is exactly the same since the current is exactly the same, they achieve more power with more voltage, so, a cable that can carry video can still carry video, the wires aren't used, if present. But yeah, I just test for basic continuity to see if it has actual wires for the video lines, the testers for actual video are $15k starting.

The charger supports 5V 2A (10 W), 9V2A(18 W), 10V2.25A(22.5 W), 10V4A(40 W) and 11V6A Max(66 W)." I don't know of any charger that can deliver that much power on USB A ports, two at a time. It is already a non-standard implementation of QC requiring a 6 amp cable. Also, the amount of time spent in this charging mode is going to be very small for a phone so diminishing returns.

Also I've read the UGREEN 140W gets very hot and might even throttle. Looking for a single brick that can work with both my M1 MacBook Pro 16" and a docked Nintendo Switch (and phone/airpods/etc). UGREEN seems the closest, but the heat issues concern me. I could probably use the Apple 140W since it supports PD 3.1, but I'm looking for something to replace it in my bag with at least 2 ports.

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  Рік тому +2

      You can go jumbo. The 200W satechi has the tricks, it's worse than the 165W in terms of performance though. The Apple only does 140W with a Magsafe cable also. So, if you want to go all USB C, and 100W is enough, then the Satechi 165W might be worth a look. I take it with me but I'm used to hauling large things around so any of these power adapters fit into the it's negligible in size category. But yeah no idea if those have issues with Nintendo or for that matter Steam Deck, both are somewhat not fully compatible with USB PD so they require manufacturers to have a special case to deal with those devices. Anker has done updates to the products to add compatibility but ultimately Nintendo and Steam should try to make a product that is broadly compatible.

    what do you think about the EHO 140w but the one with 3 usb C ports, this its kind of different cause it would be the most versatile cause two usbc ports split 65w on each, but the 3th port will always output 33w, so you can charge a laptop with 100w and a phone with 33w, but if you need to charge 2 high power devices like two laptops you can do it with 65+65, i think this one is kind of different cause is not the same configuration as other brands with essentially the same product with other brand although is a bit heavier 310g, this one is rn at $50, the idmix is at $50 and the cable is a plus but no 65+65 support and some people had complain about the product being bricked after some months, and the usbA port only outputs 20w when a port is in use, the ugreen is at $70 with a cable it has 65+65 but also only 22.5w in usbA so a bit pricier, baseus is at 60 also with a cable but no 65+65 but usbA do 30w so i dont know which one to buy cause i do have a laptop that can use 135w usb pd charging, and mi phone charges at 30w thats why i asked about the EHO cause i could still charge my laptop at good speed but also charging my phone at full speed while having the 65+65 just in case of having high power devices in the future that may use this feature.

    I have a baseus 140W and I always use it as a 100W+30W. I use the first C port and the A port, I never use the second C port.
    I hate the adapters that split the power equaly (for example 60+60+20).
    I use the 100W for my laptop, and when i want to charge my phone i dont want a 60+60 split.
    I also hate high power adapters with only 1 usb c port.
    What if i want to charge my random little usb c things that neds 5V 1A or les but doesn't turn on the 5V of the usb c port correctly??
    I know this should never hapen, and that it's because the device isn't doing things correcty, but i have a bunch of devices that do this.
    Imagine the scenario where i have a 140w charger with only 1 c port and i can't charge my usb c flashligth. This would make me carry 2 chargers everywhere.
    Now imagine that instead of a 1 C port 140W charger, Anker made a 150W charger that has 1C port (140W) and 1 A port (10W).
    The size of the charger would be almost the same and it wouldn't need any power negotiation, not interrupting the output of the 140W when I conect something on the A port.
    This charger would be much better for me, if i am charging my future laptop with 140W I stil can conect my phone at 10W, Slow charging is better than having to disconect my laptop.

      It is the same device as the idmix, etc. The Baseus is probably a little better because of the larger case. The Anker is actually more efficient at the high output power so it is the coolest of the bunch under heavy load. The Rocoren (et all) will get toasty under full load for sure). I am buying a 100W 4-port (3C, 1A) charger and was wondering, how can you tell if a charger has a feature that "dynamically adjusts power"?
    EHO and MINIX reportedly both have an issue where C1 output drops from 100 to 65W when C2 has a cable attached to it with no connected device. So I gather this means the charger doesn't measure the individual port's current.
    I assume reputable brands like Anker would have this feature but unfortunately they're out of my price range. So I'm looking at ones from TECKNET and IDMIX, but not sure if either of these are lacking the same feature as EHO and MINIX.

    • @AllThingsOnePlace

      None of them do, they all renegotiate on plug and unplug or the newer stuff renegotiates as soon as you try to use power. The only devices I have found that don't do that so far, some on a limited basis, are the SlimQ 150 and 240W adapters, and the UGREEN and Wotobeus 200W (only with two ports, after that renegotiation happens) adapters. None of them really get recommendations as the device of choice. They are always getting better but there is no perfect device for this yet.
