  • If you're in Power BI Desktop, how do you actually connect to Microsoft Fabric items like a lakehouse or warehouse? Adam walks you through different options and how this relates to various connectors.

you completely forgot to talk about the direct lake. For better performance, we don't want import or direct query mode but we favor direct lake!

If you use the semantic model or lakehouse options, you'll get Direct Lake by default.

I have a fabric with F8 capacity, when I open powerBI desktop with that account no data is shown in one lake data hub, no warehose, lakehouse or anything, what could be the issue? is it that capacity is not enough. I also have access to 'Power BI Pro for GCC' license, when I assign that, it still doesn't show the lakehouses present in Fabric in the powerbi desktop. Any help on this.

I actually don’t understand why you should connect directly to Lakehouse or warehouse with PBI Desktop.
Let me explain: I guess that connecting directly doesn’t use DirectLake. So if you want to use it, you need a power bi semantic model.
So the question is why. And it does work if you publish it as a model in import /DQ?

I'd like to take your Power BI course on your website, it seems to be from 2019 but is it still a viable course to take? Also, do you plan to offer a more advanced (current date) Power BI course in the near future? Thank you!

Q: Hello Adam and Patrick, I have a Question... How to process .parquet files that are stored in Azure Containers in Power BI? Are there any ways to do it?
    Thanks!

You can give the Azure Data Lake storage, or the parquet file connector a try, but it will depend how large your parquet files are for the import.

I built a SQL view to the parquet file and query the view from PBI

Q: can you make a video with depicting Oracle Power Automate connectors? I’ve started to play around with them, and the timeouts of every connector happens so quickly, and I’m looking to make modifications.

Hey Team, I have been watching your videos which always help me to solve my problems and also help me to think deeply about Power BI, well I am stuck at the place I have seen in my Power BI Sercive under data source categories are multiple connections are forming as I work on monthly data I get it from the sales team in excel sheet I transformed that and load to my model everything is working fine. Still, I am looking for a way to make 1 connection for the web from where every data can be fetched based on year changes we make multiple folders for diff sets of data but need 1 stop connection irrespective of the number of folders can we do that? I would be delighted if you guys could help me with this as I know you can can

It would be interesting to get more information on Live-connection to Direct Lake semantic model. Is it the same performance as a report created in the Service? I assume Live-connection will be best practice (?) such that it can be share to report consumers in another Workspace. And can a report with live-connection to Direct Lake be shared to a "non-Fabric" Workspace? Other considerations for using Direct Lake: Import via SQL endpoint will not allow use of Semantic Link?

    Interesting- thank you.
Could you kindly do a video on how to do "mode" (statistical measure) for likert 5 point scale for multiple statements please?

Can we assume that none of these approaches preserve direct lake mode?

You cannot store an Excel file in Fabric, but you can store the contents of an Excel file in a Fabric lakehouse. After that, follow the steps in the video.
If you want to keep the Excel file on-prem, you can use an on-premises gateway the same as before Fabric (with Power BI Service).
