As a Massage Therapist, I really liked how you used the gua sha technique to help unlock blood flow to that area. If those muscles are not used to responding then all that friction should help loosen uo his mid-back. Definitely a work in progress. A knot that big is going to take time to break up those myofascial adhesions and restrictions. Probably some scar tissue in there too. First time watching you and I desperately wanted to give this guy a deep tissue massage. He needs trigger point therapy. Poor thing. Thank you for helping him. Your insight into the real issue was eye opening.
Dr. Ed, I could literally see all the inflammation on the patients left side as you used your elbow, the right side not so much. It's definitely fascinating how the body functions. I appreciate all the knowledge you provide, big Thanks!!!
So from what i know and what ive seen in this, i am assuming hes doing is rupturing a lot of seized up muscle fibers causing a lot of blood and fluid to go to the spot to repair it and remove the ruptured cells. Im sure if you lance it its just a giant chunky deep tissue blood blister. But in re-injuring it and encourageing movement of the area it will cause the repairs to be much less rigid. The bubble is so big because with the vigorus minor stretching of what should be flexible but isnt there is A TON of pinpoint damage being done (good damage) otherwise its so stiff it would never move even with general streches and the rest of his back would become more flexible while the basically scar tissue would remain rigid. He really needs a massage therapist more than a chiropractor but its doubtful a massage therapist would have fully comprehended what needed done like he did.
Just a personal note on a treatment that has worked really well for me breaking up knots. Even better that most massages I’ve had is Cupping. No bs, it helps knots. Sucks them up and holds the pinch for about ten minutes or so. And doesn’t hurt much Great videos btw.
You may have ankylosing spondylitis. Saw multiple specialists for about 2 years and doctors had no idea until i talked to my dad and he said he had experienced the same issues before he was diagnosed with AS which took 10 years for him. Changed my diet and im fine, no swollen mid back, no more popping my sternum in the morning, no more si joint pain and a lot more. Zero meds.
I really appreciate your knowledge and awareness of the body and how everything works together, compensates, etc. It's something I really don't see in enough doctors and has been a particular frustration to me when I've told them I have pain in one spot and they only xray or mri that area. In my opinion, to not also scan the surrounding and connecting areas is to do a great disservice. They know about referred pain, yet will not look elsewhere... I used to have chronic pain in my back when I was in high school/early 20s. I went to PT and whatnot at first, but it was still an issue. Then, when I was about 23yo, I developed plantar fasciitis super suddenly and started wearing inserts to help with that. Then one day, I realized that pain that I used to have almost every day, hadn't happened in a while. It blew my mind that my feet could affect my back, but whether it be alignment or walking too harshly, it did. I wish doctors would be more aware of these things... It's so hard to see yourself from the outside, so we rely on them to see what we can't. I'm currently focusing on muscle imbalances and misalignment in my own body, because like some of your patients, I'm convinced my current chronic pain is at least partially caused by it (since I've ruled out nerve damage and chronic illness). Btw, I find it really difficult to work on my own back (for obvious reasons), do you have any suggestions when it comes to working on knots that are between the shoulder blades and mid back, etc? I have a medium sized foam ball that I use on the ground. I've gotten better at it, but it's awkward and my back can't really be relaxed when I'm using my arms to hold up my neck and hair, etc. I have a rubber pressure point foot massage ball that I've tried to use on the wall, but it moves around and is hard to control. Just don't really have someone else to help and can't afford massages, etc.
How do you find a chiropractor that does this? Is it a specialty? The ones I’ve seen they spend like 5 minutes crack with table and that’s it. No massaging at all.
For those wondering about what the wedge they use is, it looks like Amazon do Triangle Yoga Blocks which may be beneficial of youre after something similar. 😊
@@OSUBoxkator well considering my symptoms and pain are spot on with this gentleman I Can at least point my care provider in the right direction of what to look at instead of saying my lower back hurts and being brushed off as just needing to stretch or working out my lower back.
Hey Dr.Ed I been watching your videos for a while and In all seriousness I haven’t seen docs so awesome as you. If I could ever get treatment like that I would but I’m 24 stuck in a city with a terrible economy. I been working since 16 and at 20 I messed up my back pretty bad and couldn’t walk pretty much for a year. I been working on myself since then and can walk and a slow job but that’s about it. Haven’t ran since 19.
I live in Los Angeles and can't get to your area. If I wanted to find a local chiropractor with a similar approach what would be the best way to go about it? Especially the emphasis on avoiding an injured section and instead unlocking the other areas of the back. Are there specific search terms, etc, to find one? I imagine "gua sha" and "chiropractic massage" would be important terms, but the philosophy your family has on what areas to focus on seems a bit unique, and I'm not sure how to identify similar chiropractors nearby.
That's a hard one...I unfortunately don't know of anyone who practices our technique out there...😕 I'm sorry. Calling around and asking if they incorporate soft-tissue work can be helpful. Sorry I can't be more help!
The ones that are long lasting. It makes me want to invert my spine next to a wall, and then, lean laterally as to use gravity and my body weight compress my spine left or right to release gasses between joints, jovial fluid or some shit creates a pops. Just look at it like less gases between joints feels like relief.
Any tips on how to help cooks keep the bend in the back while working leaned forward, it sucks so bad to keep having to steam my body for over 30 mins in the shower every day b4 and after work
I have servere back pain .I had spinal decompression 7 years ago .but in February I started getting pain all over my back getting worse so much so I can't do anything also pain under my right breast. When I cough it feels like I'm pushing something out under my rib.i have had chest xrays back xrays ct scan with dye .a scan for kidneys gall bladder liver and urinary tract nothing shows up .The pain is horrendous Any idea what this is and could a chiropractor help I'm at my witts end

I don’t understand. Truly. 🤷♀️ Why is the DC leaving the patient with abrasions, ecchymosis & erythema? I believe in chiropractic care but this…I just cannot understand🤨
It is a damn shame that I have been to 3 chiropractors and have not had this thorough of a visit or no education like he is doing to this patient .. just nothing but machines and bills ..smh
He has said in his videos before that he doesn't have them for sale for anyone to buy because he needs to work on people and teach them how to use the blocks so it is not for self prescription
A physical therapist didn't find this? Where is this that the physical therapists are so bad? Even a PTA worth their salt would catch this and know how to fix it, with the PT's approval of course.
MRI's are more expensive and unnecessary for most major issues. Hospitals have both, the point Doc was making was that a CAT can't show more than what an MRI does.
Cat Scans are way faster and also more comfortable. MRIs require a lot of time in comparison and the person has to sit extremely still over that extended time.
Stretching really helps to change your posture. It hurts me like hell, but it’s a good pain. I use the Denneroll every day for at least 20 minutes and sometimes I fall asleep on it 😇. You’re one of the best Ed 👍🏻🥰
That lump is caused by inflammation, he has to change his diet and it'll loosen up. I had that and did carnivore and my mid back was super loose and not inflamed anymore. Id do a whole food diet or something.
