For those who want to know what are ITF and WTF meanings: ITF: international taekwondo federation (which i practice) WTF: World Taekwondo Federation WTF is commonly seen in Olympics Games, since is more focused in competitions, while ITF is the traditional taekwondo style, maybe that's why a lot of people assume wrongly that Taekwondo is only about kicks. Taekwondo is seen as a light contact discipline, so instead of using knockouts like in karate, you win in competitions against your opponent based on the points of correctly placed hits. However that doesn't mean that you can't knockout accidentally or hurting someone. Also, at least in ITF from what i know, you use personal defense techniques as well, however, you have to be a teenager or adult and from a certain belt to start practicing it (for obvious reasons). You practice forms and has some principles as well: courtesy, integrity, perseverance, autocontrol, and undomitable spirit. That's my experience of ITF, if anyone is a WTF i would be glad of learning about yours.

ITF is the true form of Taekwondo. Many comment that traditional martial arts don't have practical application. In a way they are right. I got my kick jammed, and a weak punch ended it. The judges approached me, including one of my instructors, and asked why I went with a kick instead of a punch. I told him that you all wanted me to kick. At the end of the day it's all up to self preference. ITF, Which is what I do gives you more weapon, (hands and feet) in easier words it's quite similar to karate. When WTF makes you an absolute beast at kicks. In my opinion, and no bias I prefer ITF.
WTF= high risk, high reward, and limited defense influenced Olympic sport ITF= medium risk, substantial impacts, but practical defense in combat scenarios. I love TKD❤❤
4th Dan ITF, 3rd Dan WT. 20 years and still training both. I enjoy ITF training style more. It's not even about the sparring. It's the mindset, the emphasis on tradition, the complexity, and the use of the entire body that is missing from WT. Modern TKD has diverged from that too much.
As a ITF I fought against a WTF in a recent competition, they don't really use feet alot mostly punching and it's just punch after punch so I don't see much of it
