Sammy Davis Jr on Dee Time, 1968

- Sammy Davis Jr leads Max Harris' 'Dee Time' orchestra in an utterly-unrehearsed version of the then-new Bacharach/David number 'This Guy's In Love With You'. The band is sight-reading, Sammy's winging it, and the result is magic.

I find it impossible for me to watch a Sammy Davis Jr. video without a big smile on my face.
My Dad saw all the Rat Pack live and said no one touched Sammy Davis jnr as a performer. See what he means, unbelievable!
This is as good as it gets, that’s it
Sammy Davis is right singer for this Lovely song.
Sammy Davis, Cooooleeeest Cat on the Planet !!!!!!!!!!!!
He beats out anyone!
This is an amazing rendition!
God, he's absolutely brilliant! I've never heard this version.
RIP Simon Dee and thanks for this wonderful unique surviving example of the chaos that was Dee Time.
Brilliant, absolutely brilliant. What a cool jacket too!
wow! whenever sammy sang a song - u knew he was feeling those words as he sang - what a rendition!
Fab. Would love to see the whole show!
Paul Vanezis Unfortunately this Dee Time with Sammy in it,does not exist in its entirety. All that exists of Sammy, is him briefly talking to Simon Dee about how stars are not great, they are just people that are in the right place at the right time, and of course him singing.Ironically, the following weeks live episode of Dee Time(Nov 1968) was recorded on film in its entirety(Lionel Jeffries and Susanna York).
In fact only two episodes of the many live Dee Time episodes broadcast were ever recorded in their entirety and kept in the BBC archive. What else remains of the show is just a few clips(Robert Morley,Wilfred Hyde White,Derek Nimmo, Lionel Blair and Jack Wilde for instance).
This clip of Sammy singing was not fully broadcast. The show was live and Sammy over ran,so only the first verse ever got broadcast.Fortunately, the BBC kept a full recording of the song.
The reason for the over run was because Sammy turned up late for the show.
Absolutely breathtakingly brilliant...one of the very best...Sammy...musical right through to his bones and a natural entertainer. I bet he loved the spontaneity
of it. Great band.
I suppose the BBC wiped the Dee Time tapes....Thanks for saving this.
wow, just wow.
That was an education. I'm floored.
Just great!!
WOW!!mind blowin
Brilliant performance from the days of incomparable performers. And I never knew Simon Dee could arrange something so cool. Note for non-Brits: Dee was a huge TV show host in late 60s Britain, whose career very soon went off a cliff.
Keith Mundy I was watching TV last night, it was said his ego got out of control and he wanted far too much money so they got rid of him
Do you believe everything that you hear on the TV? Did you know Simon Dee? Did you know anyone at the BBC or ITV? Did you know any of Simon's friends?
You don't really know anything about Simon at all, do you?
Next!!!
@@rosiewhite8313 I agree with you Rosie.
there are no words ... :)
That was a true treasure. Thank you! There are no words for how that band got the job done. What can you say about Sammy? The only thing he needed to entertain an audience was a microphone. Is there anymore of this performance?
Amazing performance. Bacharach never sounded so cool.
He tore that up! Yes Sammy!
wow
i like his shirt...its really groovy
ass kicker of a chorus. damn.
über-cool
