This suggests they are underground. Also it is stated that when they come out they will rampage and then all of them will die from a parasite (disease). Also, it was narrated after 'Ubaid Ibn 'Umair and his son, 'Abdullah and others: that Dhul-Qarnain set out on foot to perform Pilgrimage.
