This is the first video of Bushwacker 2.0... I recorded this at least a year ago. Since then the Carbon Fiber belly pod was built. I have also began an overhaul on the engine which will upgrade it to 10-1 pistons for a little more HP. I have built airfoil horizontal stabilizer tailfeathers.
I spent 5 weeks in Alaska with it (Aug. 22- Sept. 27). I flew almost a 100 hours and had an epic adventure. We killed and hauled out 2 moose and 1 caribou. I overflew Canada going the coast.
I have an inside fuel cell that is removable that gave me 90 gallons of fuel. In the second leg going up I flew for more than 8 hours non-stop from Orcas Island, WA. to Sitka, Alaska.
I am posting this in response to a few negative posts I have seen. By the way, my channel, my rules. I will remove them when I see them so you might as well not waste your time. Give me a thumbs down if you don't like this video, or any of the other videos and leave my channel. That is the best way to vote here.
She’s a good looking and great performing machine! Well done
Maule has always dominated the tundra tire airplanes.
Your videos are terrific and an inspiration for freedom lovers - You're a wizard and justly proud of your aeroplanes. Thank you...Happy Landings 2021 !
Glad you like them!
Greg, this thing was perfection. Looking forward to seeing your 4 place super cub in the future!
The parts are hinges for the double slotted flaps.
Great work! Can’t wait to see more content.
Yes they are, known as a Vane Hanger, close enough. Tell me where to send it and which video you would like. Thanks for playing along. That did not take long.
You can go to my website and send an email to me from there so you don't have to post information here.
Awesome! I just replied via your website. How about Volume 2 ‘Water Play’?
Thank you so much!
So glad to see your videos again you are actually the one that's got me interested in Bush flying still working at it lol
Excellent
Love that you are back on here. I’m wanting to do a a super light pacer with extended wings and flaps and maybe slats. Hoping for 1000 pounds useful and I have a 180 O360 to hang out front. Should hover around nicely I hope.
You can do it!
I love this plane. Been searcher for a supercub or 170b with 180hp. I’m really leaning towards a Maule now
I love Maules and this is best of two worlds. Awesome stuff!!
Very amazing, congrats
That is one hell of a badass plane!!!!
Really Nice Maule man!!! Belford Maule would surely be impressed!!!!!
Yeah I have sometimes wondered what he would have thought of my Experimental Maule
Looks beautiful and fun to fly!
It is! Thank you
Watching the original season one of BRLP gave me good memories.
Excellent
Very nice job. Looks like a lot of fun.
Very nice! Awesome to see more video content coming from your adventures, hope to see you soon out on the rocks 😎
Thank you
Great. The shortest Way ever! Greetings from Germany.
Thats funny I knew what those parts were because I had just watch a bush plane mod video congrads to the winner . I’m enjoying your channel 👍
Thanks 👍
like a stealth Maule. very cool.
Very well thought-out bush plane flown by an excellent pilot.
I have a '79 Skywagon 180 with an 0-550 Texas Skyway, Sportsman, VGs, Snider Speed Kit, float kit which I am considering selling.
Would ever consider building a duplicate plane to sell to others such as a pilot like me who wants to fly slower and land shorter than I can with the "wagon"?
Now thats a badarse Maule......very very cool
Thank you
Awesome plane, I would like to see more detail on your cargo pod. Planning to fit one to the Bearhawk I am building.
Great video. Keep modifying and you’ll have a super cub!
I’m always curious about that question. The Super Cub over the Maule. Obviously, one has considerably more capacity, but the real question is about flying characteristics. Which plane is more fun to fly? I’m assuming the Cub, because its lighter, but I’d be curious if any of you guys have opinions on this?
I know next to nothing about planes but I recognized that part from one of your other videos. Only problem is, I'm a year late...
Would love to see a video of the inside of bushwaker 2
This thing rocks! Holy shit.
Wow this thing is awesome.
Beautiful plane👍🇦🇺
Wish I knew what the part was! 😂 Great video. Thanks for all the info. 😃
Thanks for watching!
Enjoyed hearing the specs on this plane- great info... and awesome looking plane. Curious to learn more about how you got started?
More to come!
@@mauleguy great! My buddies are going to enjoy me continuing to share your videos! J
Nice fuel tank base
NICE
Красиво летаете ребята!. Только боюсь, что скоро вам придется на лошадях ездить!!!.
Those tires though!

Sublime! Is landing on a helipad the ultimate goal? given the right conditions...
I always had a problem landing a side by side tail dagger. I didn’t own one, my Dad did. He saw how shitty I was at landing, he didn’t offer the plane up, much.😂
Yep.. thats what I was gonna say.. that part for the flaps.. someone beat me to it..🙄 Wish you wouldve showed how you extended the wings. Gosh I wish I could do what you guys do with airplanes! Ive been working on my maule for yeeaarrss trying to get enough money here and there to do it and feeling like I gotta have everything perfect exactly the way maule made it and then theres you guys that just do whatever they want like extending the wings like its no big deal! Like Mike Patey or something! Did you guys go to school to be A&Ps or something!? Like shiitt.. All I want is to get mine flying!
No on the schooling, Schooling of hardknocks
Beautiful plane. Cheers fr Kasilof
beautiful plane
I think so too!
Love it
Cool that you went with heel brakes. I wish I had done the same on my plane, I hate the toe brakes.
Selfishly I wish you had talked about your extended gear. They are on the drawing board for my Bearhawk but idk how tall to make them or if I should move the axle forward etc.
I made mine 5" extended over stock. You could do a comparison of stock Maule gear to the Bearhawk stock gear and then make your choice. I think Airframes extended Maule gear is 4". It was based on my design. Bill Duncan of Alaskan Bushwheels bought a set from me for his Maule and then reversed engineered it and STC'd them for Maule.
Thanks! I got some tips from Wup about the extended Maule gear. He gave me some tips and suggested I talk to you but I never did. My 88” prop is taking a beating from lack of prop clearance so I have to do something. I’ll make a closer comparison with Maule gear and make a decision.
Looking at the video, it appears that there are 16 of these parts. You have two Ailerons and two flaps. Each would take four each to connect to the wing.
The Vane hangers are right and left and get riveted to the flap spar as an assembly. If you have two hanger flaps it takes 2 right and 2 left for one flap. The ailerons do not use them.
Brackets for the flaps!
Vane hanger for double slotted flaps
Great video and great plane.. i hope it’s not a stupid question, but I cannot get my head around hunting logistics with a small or experimental bush plane. If you fly into a remote area, can you pack out a moose with your maule? If outfitters are flying clients in with small bush planes, how do they get hunter, meat and trophy out of the bush? Would be very thankful for an explanation! Thanks in advance.
It usually requires multiple trips. I could haul all of 1 moose out but then I would still have to go back and load camp gear and buddy into airplane for a second trip. We have taken 2 moose in one year between 2 of us and spent a few days moving everything back to Anchorage Ak. (2 Trips). We cut and packaged the meat and froze it solid at a friends lodge before transporting. This was only about a 15 minute flight from moose camp so it made things much easier.
There are logistics involved for sure with any hunt.
way better than just a cub killer
It is in a lot of ways. Both airplanes are awesome. I am torn as you can see, I have a Experimental Super Cub also.
@@mauleguy Which do you prefer to fly?
Your narrative audio at the start of the video is a little quieter than most of the video, but the latter dubbed narrative and engine noise etc is spot on. It may be worth a look into a new camera-mounted mic?
yeah I have some upgrading to do.
Awesome video Greg. On your propeller curious why you went with 80” vs 84”. I’m assuming here but depending on the hub your running, 8477 blades are an option. Again great video and obviously amazing machine. I grew up watching your stuff before I moved to AK and it was an inspiration.
I actually tried the 84" blades and the engine really did not have enough torque to spin it effectively.
I also tried an 84" MT 2 blade and the 80" McCaully beat it in performance.
Makes sense. I went with the 84” blades on my M-6 as it was the best option for my specific engine. Certified so had to keep the paperwork straight. Really liked your video on the Lathe I’m on the verge of buying my first cnc and have been soaking up as much as I can about cnc. Take care and safe flying.
@@colehawkins6623 Is yours a 235hp or 260hp (Lycoming 540)
Hey Greg mine is actually a 250hp. Did a field approval and got a 540-A1C5 approved. 2 mags cheaper cylinders, it is slightly heavier than the J series though.
@@colehawkins6623 I am IO-360 angle value (200 hp)
EXCELENTE!!!
Do you mind me asking how you can take a certified Maule and make it an experimental? Was it a challenging process or is it something we could all do? Like many of the people here, we are huge Maule fans, but I’m also a huge Experimental fan and I was under the impression that making the transfer was not easy.
Today it probably would not be as easy, this was almost 20 years ago. I did not have a Maule that was flying, just some parts and a plan of what I wanted to change to make it better. I found a person at the Hillsboro FSDO that thought what I wanted to do was great and was willing to put his name on it. I am guessing it will vary from FSDO to FSDO as to what they think is acceptable.
make some changes that are outside the drawings and certifications and you have experimental - i think.
@@stevemyers2092 Steve, sadly it’s not that easy. You need to get approval from a FSDO and as explained in the prior message, it’s not that easy. I’ve heard of people making very expensive modifications to planes and then having all kind of issues getting them signed off with huge limitations on usability.
@@mauleguy It’s an awesome plane. LMK if you are ever interested in selling her.
@@mauleguy Awesome that someone backed you!!
Great Videos. I was just wondering if you stretched the fuse to account for the larger wing and flaps? What tail do you have? I am building a exp pacer with mackey wings and am working on airfoil hz tail design. I would like to not stretch (although that is the norm). I have a composite airfoil hz tail design that we might test. Any info would be appreciated.
I did not stretch it, stock length fuselage. The tailfeathers are airfoil shape using a composite honeycomb for the ribs (to get the shape) and standard 4130 cond n. steel for the structure than covered with fabric.
@@mauleguy thanks for the info. I'd be interested to chat about hz tail and wing volume. Matthughes@sasktel.net
Get a mercedes benz deisal or a turbine pn that and you got a supreme ride.
So what did this start out at originally?
A few Maule parts but mostly it is custom built
What model fuselage is it? It looks like a really good hunting plane. How far can you fly on a full tank?
Здравствуйте! Скажите пожалуйста можно ли у вас купить такой самолёт??
Wing slat brackets?
nope, thanks for watching
Flaperon brackets?
nope

Who in the world would have anything negative to say about your videos? WTF
...
I already gave it away to the guy after you. You got it right, for some reason it did not show up on the feed but if you tell me where to send the video and which one I will send it to you. You can go to my website and send an email. That way you don't have to put the information on here.
@@mauleguy My fault. I've edited my comment a few minutes after. I felt I needed to let others have a chance to participate and win. Keep up your good work!!
