    This is the first video of Bushwacker 2.0... I recorded this at least a year ago. Since then the Carbon Fiber belly pod was built. I have also began an overhaul on the engine which will upgrade it to 10-1 pistons for a little more HP. I have built airfoil horizontal stabilizer tailfeathers.
    I spent 5 weeks in Alaska with it (Aug. 22- Sept. 27). I flew almost a 100 hours and had an epic adventure. We killed and hauled out 2 moose and 1 caribou. I overflew Canada going the coast.
    I have an inside fuel cell that is removable that gave me 90 gallons of fuel. In the second leg going up I flew for more than 8 hours non-stop from Orcas Island, WA. to Sitka, Alaska.
    I am posting this in response to a few negative posts I have seen. By the way, my channel, my rules. I will remove them when I see them so you might as well not waste your time. Give me a thumbs down if you don't like this video, or any of the other videos and leave my channel. That is the best way to vote here.

    I have a '79 Skywagon 180 with an 0-550 Texas Skyway, Sportsman, VGs, Snider Speed Kit, float kit which I am considering selling.
    Would ever consider building a duplicate plane to sell to others such as a pilot like me who wants to fly slower and land shorter than I can with the "wagon"?

      I’m always curious about that question. The Super Cub over the Maule. Obviously, one has considerably more capacity, but the real question is about flying characteristics. Which plane is more fun to fly? I’m assuming the Cub, because its lighter, but I’d be curious if any of you guys have opinions on this?

    Cool that you went with heel brakes. I wish I had done the same on my plane, I hate the toe brakes.
    Selfishly I wish you had talked about your extended gear. They are on the drawing board for my Bearhawk but idk how tall to make them or if I should move the axle forward etc.

    • @mauleguy
      @mauleguy  3 роки тому +1

      I made mine 5" extended over stock. You could do a comparison of stock Maule gear to the Bearhawk stock gear and then make your choice. I think Airframes extended Maule gear is 4". It was based on my design. Bill Duncan of Alaskan Bushwheels bought a set from me for his Maule and then reversed engineered it and STC'd them for Maule.

    • @whee8e
      @whee8e 3 роки тому

      Thanks! I got some tips from Wup about the extended Maule gear. He gave me some tips and suggested I talk to you but I never did. My 88” prop is taking a beating from lack of prop clearance so I have to do something. I’ll make a closer comparison with Maule gear and make a decision.

  • @johnosteen145
    @johnosteen145 3 роки тому

    Looking at the video, it appears that there are 16 of these parts. You have two Ailerons and two flaps. Each would take four each to connect to the wing.

    • @mauleguy
      @mauleguy  3 роки тому

      The Vane hangers are right and left and get riveted to the flap spar as an assembly. If you have two hanger flaps it takes 2 right and 2 left for one flap. The ailerons do not use them.

    Great video and great plane.. i hope it’s not a stupid question, but I cannot get my head around hunting logistics with a small or experimental bush plane. If you fly into a remote area, can you pack out a moose with your maule? If outfitters are flying clients in with small bush planes, how do they get hunter, meat and trophy out of the bush? Would be very thankful for an explanation! Thanks in advance.

    • @mauleguy
      @mauleguy  Рік тому +1

      It usually requires multiple trips. I could haul all of 1 moose out but then I would still have to go back and load camp gear and buddy into airplane for a second trip. We have taken 2 moose in one year between 2 of us and spent a few days moving everything back to Anchorage Ak. (2 Trips). We cut and packaged the meat and froze it solid at a friends lodge before transporting. This was only about a 15 minute flight from moose camp so it made things much easier.
      There are logistics involved for sure with any hunt.

    Awesome video Greg. On your propeller curious why you went with 80” vs 84”. I’m assuming here but depending on the hub your running, 8477 blades are an option. Again great video and obviously amazing machine. I grew up watching your stuff before I moved to AK and it was an inspiration.

    • @mauleguy
      @mauleguy  3 роки тому

      I actually tried the 84" blades and the engine really did not have enough torque to spin it effectively.

    Do you mind me asking how you can take a certified Maule and make it an experimental? Was it a challenging process or is it something we could all do? Like many of the people here, we are huge Maule fans, but I’m also a huge Experimental fan and I was under the impression that making the transfer was not easy.

    • @mauleguy
      @mauleguy  3 роки тому +2

      Today it probably would not be as easy, this was almost 20 years ago. I did not have a Maule that was flying, just some parts and a plan of what I wanted to change to make it better. I found a person at the Hillsboro FSDO that thought what I wanted to do was great and was willing to put his name on it. I am guessing it will vary from FSDO to FSDO as to what they think is acceptable.

    • @stevemyers2092

    • @Mr.T.Private
      @Mr.T.Private 3 роки тому

      @@stevemyers2092 Steve, sadly it’s not that easy. You need to get approval from a FSDO and as explained in the prior message, it’s not that easy. I am building a exp pacer with mackey wings and am working on airfoil hz tail design. I would like to not stretch (although that is the norm). I have a composite airfoil hz tail design that we might test. Any info would be appreciated.

    • @mauleguy
