- Ever wondered what it was like to travel in a bubble-car? This is the back-seat experience in Mike Webster's fantastic KR200 microcar with 200cc Sachs 2-stroke scooter engine. A genius piece of engineering by aero-engineer Fritz Fend produced from 1956-64.
.....I was assigned to Germany, while in the Army back in '72 -'75 ... And I still have dreams when I see these cars again as I did on many occasions back then ... Wow..!
Actually managed to drive this exact car yesterday, the guy was very nice and taught me how to drive it. Thanks mate!
Neat little car! I wouldnt feel safe on American highways in it with traffic going 75-80 mph but for going around town or rural areas it would be fun.

Someone should make a kit car version of these cars! They were too far ahead of their time.
A few years ago a company in the UK made fibreglass versions of the isetta and messerschmitt.
@@raychambers3646 If i lived in the UK I'd look for one to buy. KRs are rare as hen's teeth and cost prohibitive here. I'd like to build one similar to an aluminium aircraft fuselage.
@@noneovyerbusiness4909 there was a guy who had an isetta in our town (glassfibre kit ) made into a hybrid ,and this was years ago before it was a thing to do.
I love this car, it's what the "Pywackett Barchetta" from Daytona USA on the Dreamcast is based on.

Back in the 1970s, I owned two Messerschmitts. I never was able to get either of them roadworthy. You used to be able to pick them up for next to nothing, but now they are worth a small fortune. I also used to own a Nobel 200 which had the same Sachs engine as the Messerschmitt.

One of those drivers who has to look at you when he speaks. The most terrifying part of the drive.

Yup, they’re in “Blighty,” so they drive on the left. Same for Oz, if I recall correctly. Germany drives on the right - I *think.*

I had 3 of them in my youth.....70+ /gallon was common.
That's really remarkable for a two stroke engine! I imagine the light weight and excellent aerodynamics played a large part in achieving that efficiency.
Dunno about the aerodynamics but they were very light. .If you took a sharp corner too fast, you could tip and become a 2 wheeler . Mind you, that mileage came down as any weight was added....like a passenger. or guitar amplifier
What the chap was saying about the price of them now., the 3 I had the cheapest I paid a tenner for and. the other 2 were less than £20/
This was the late 60s and you couldn't give them away.......wish I'd kept at least one of them..

They had to. The victors of WW2 banned Germany from aircraft production for some time.
They weren't made by Messerschmitt, they were made by FMR.

i like this car but no car maker would like to make this kind of car anymore...
The Elios 3 wheeled car that is trying to get into production in USA appears heavily influenced by this car.
