    you should never use a ratchet wrench to muscle off a part like that you could bust the teeth in the ratchet mechanism. always use a breaker bar os with the engine out of the car... a air impact wrench.

    I saw that was going to bottom out long before you even started. why didn't you use the longer rod in the first place?

    You have to remove the engine to do this job? Holy cow.

      Pop the passenger mount off, and drop the engine. Jack up that side of the car and pull the front wheel off. removing the plastics, and you have full access of it in the car. It's way easier to work on everything out of the car though.

    On my damper pulley the service station broke off one of the tabs that the pulley needs to remove the pulley when they changed the timing belt two years before. any suggestions how I can get it out now?

    What a PIA and no keyway. That is Daimler Chrysler. Wonder if Fiat Chrysler uses a drop of crazy glue and no bolt? I miss good old Mopar's instead of this crap. Lee, where are you?

    I so wish I had this before attempting pulling my harmonic balancer with the traditional 3 jaw puller. I spent over three hours trying to get it off, even trying a fan blade puller. I'm going to Autozone to rent this, lol.

    01 dodge durango 4.7 L engine,home made crank shaft harmonic crank puller in search of for auto zone rental don't work.

    Got mine off with Harbor Freight 3 jaw 4 puller set (small one) with no problems. Now getting it back on is another story as both the damper and crank have threads, what a mess.

    I have a harmonic balancer that the whole entire front is nothing but a rubber piece that goes all the way around do I just cut the rubber off to get the puller on it?

    going through this with a 1998 Neon (thanks for your sympathy) but the damned thing REFUSES to budge! Even with the right tools...any suggestions anyone?

      Heat it up with a propane torch

      ***** I do not recommend using heat to loosen up the stock neon crank pulleys. It is a 2 piece design with a rubber isolator ring between the 2 halves which can melt. Or this can happen: forums.neons.org/viewtopic.php?p=2904751#p2904751

    That doesn't work for the Chrysler 4.7L fyi................... THIS ROD ISNT LONG ENOUGH. I used a cut down head bolt as a push rod. 03' durango 4x4. Hope that helps somebody

      Autozone, do you have an Advance Auto near you? You can Also rent these tools online, it takes longer and isn't free, but if it's cheaper than buying it....

    the first tool you used was missing a small bar that's about 3/8 long that you drop inside the bolt you put you over the top. I know because I just used one 3 days ago. also is there a harmonic balancer installer for this engine. Ive been looking but have not found one that works on the Chrysler 420a engine.

      is the motor in or out of the car

      without knowing your situation I'll ask the obvious
      if it's in the car do you have it in gear?
      If it's not in the car do you have the flywheel blocked so it won't turn
      spray with PB blaster and let sit, use a hammer on the wrench if you don't have an impact tool
      just throwing stuff out there for you

      do you have the heavy duty puller, Iike in the video?
      that is a must, I remember reading that the way that pulley is installed during manufacturing its the equivalent of 6 tons of force
      Unfortunately, what your facing is not unusual
      it's probably going to take Heat then Cool cycles, PB Blaster, a few smacks with 5lb hammer, and so on to get to crack

    So this puller at 6:01 is by itself unable to remove this pulley?
    I dont have that Chrysler puller and need to remove it only once, its not worth buying. So i think about that traditional 3 jaw puller. Some say that i need to use at least 3 ton puller. Which again, is too expensive for one time job (ok, maybe two)

      chrysler puller tool from auto zone does not work on my 4.7 L engine,in need to remove harmonic wheel balaner to acsrss timing changes.
