Hi. Thank you for subscribing. I returned the favor! Maybe I will see you on the road sometime. Happy riding days!!
Wildhorse Creek Road is a nice ride, but I don't think that I've ever been on it when the temperature was above 50-60 degrees and there weren't bicycles on it. It's as popular with the cycling community as it is with the motorcycling community. And they have every right to the road as motorcycles or cars. With the speed limit at 30 MPH for most of the road, many of the bicyclists can go the speed limit, especially on the downhill segments. You just have to be patient and wait for a safe opportunity to pass. Most of the good cyclists will move to the right to let you by, but, of course, you always have the jerks that demand the whole lane no matter how slow they're going. Just be smart, and not try an unsafe pass on a blind curve or hill.
There are a number of area roads that are really popular with the cycling community, for the same reasons that they're popular with us motorcyclists, especially in Wildwood and out around Six Flags. A lot of the twisty roads in northern Jefferson County tend to not have as many cyclists, so they can be better for motorcycling. Just be aware, be patient, and be safe.
I have a road bike, too. I love to ride and go fast in it. I just choose safer roads when on my bicycle. I was on a group ride for charity once and they put us on so many unsafe roads with cars flying by..: way too much for me.
I try to be courteous to bicycles. Wouldn't have Motorcycles without the invention of bicycles. But they are a hazard. Always obstructing traffic and some are asses about it by hogging more of the road than they need and blocking safe passing. I really think they shouldn't be allowed on most roads.
The road just needs to be shared, slower traffic to the right or as close to it as possible. Let the faster vehicle pass... I just find that particular road unsafe for bicycles, I'm surprised more accidents don't happen there.
Sorry for your club's loss. To the bike riders, "Share the road" goes both ways.
