That was fun again!! I love to use house paint too. Good prices and you can find some interesting colors. Thanks for demonstrating. and your generosity of sharing. Awesome Painting!!!!
Absolutely beautiful! Wonderful depth building with the under layers. I've thought about using house paint but never did! Now I'm so going to try it out. Thank you for the inspiration and fun video!
Indoor or outdoor paint~~lol~~~`freakin love it, you ROCK?? The less expensive gallon paint I can get here is at Home Depot, for $38.95, other Hardware stores want $54.00-$62.00~~it's all good damn paint~~terrible pricing. I am 65 and loved ones have passed and it soothes my soul and brings happiness into my life again. I used to use oils years ago, but the last couple of years, I used acrylics. I love abstracts and I much rather paint large ones~~go big or go home, phfffd. I am using a 32x48 hardboard, sanded it and primed it with house primer. For texture paste, I just bought acrylic tile adhesive and I'm going to make my own crackle paste.. Keep on it~~~~you are truly a creative kickass kind of guy!! Warm greetings from Canada!!!
Thank you for the kind words! Yea paint from hardware stores is too expensive :(( That's a great idea about the tile adhesive for texture, I'll have to try that out!
@@exhortationsofanartist8118 the cracks are amazing for more texture in some parts of the canvas though! I love it when it cracks!!! It us fun for sure!!!
@@dianehansma1725 I experimented a little and found out the tile adhesive is excellent for oil pastel. Just the right amount of gritty texture. I'm working on a large board that comes up to my shoulders and I'm a little nervous. Never done anything that large before.😅
Very inspiring, three questions if you do not mind... do you prime or gesso your canvas to start, when you stretch on the frame does the paint crack, and do you varnish to finish? I have heard house paint can crack and peel off canvas but I like to paint big and would break the bank with artist quality paint!
For this painting I painted on pre-primed canvas, but normally I will buy unprimed canvas and cover it in a coat of paint (house paint) to prime it; its all personal preference. I haven't had much of an issue with the house paint cracking, possibly if I apply it too thin, but nothing major. It is a great alternative to artist grade acrylics especially when covering large areas!
Yup! Fun fun fun, you coyld have, done 3 large paintings! . How do yiu stretch that solid heavy canvas over the wood stretchers now? . I think have an idea, subject, colours then just do it once, start another and another.
Thank you! Yes I absolutely am enjoying myself here :) Basically I call a piece finished when all the elements work well together and the piece as a whole is satisfying to look at. But it takes time to develop an eye to be able to notice if those things are happening or not!
Yip. We all do that check check , change change , scribble scribble on phone!! And use brushes, on large canvases, and use house paints, thanks for sharing! . Fun!!
Wonderful. Love to see all of the different stages of development. Thanks for posting - keep it up. I love Behr paint and get their “oops” paint when I can. Free would be even better - but not sure what a drop off station is, or if I have one in my area. ( I’m in So Cal. )
Thank you! Yes I use "oops" paint often! I call it a drop off station or transfer station, it's where you go to drop off hazardous chemicals (like paint) that you can't just throw away. Some stations let you take and use the paints that get dropped off.
Absolutely fascinating and inspiring. This is my 2nd time watching and started following you on Insta. The final piece is sublime. Do you paint with house paint on the regular?
Just signed up your chanel. Very inspiring! I‘m still thinking too much inbetween the layers of a painting and therefore get stuck... How do you know when your painting is finished? Your work reminds me of Cy Twombly, whom I admire deeply... Tha ks you for sharing!
Welcome to the channel! Yes the million dollar question: how to know when it's finished. Basically when every portion of the canvas "works" (colors, placement of objects, contrast etc), and it just takes time to develop an eye to be able to tell if it "works" or not. Very subjective, but something you get better at over time. Cy is probably my biggest inspiration!!
Well.. Ive spent the last two years transitioning from a 30 year career as an internationally acclaimed face and body painter, and have been seriously depressed by my efforts on canvas and paper with all the various mediums that i've tried!! I'm used to creating beautiful art in minutes, and despite hours and days with watercolours, pastels, acrylics, fluid art, pallette knife etc. I cannot create ANYTHING that compares to my previous work!!! I've also spent a fortune on materials. Seeing you, however, being so free and uncaring and ... just, INSPIRED has given me hope. You're making fabulous art, but you're helping people with their mental health also. So thanks, from the bottom of my heart. Really. I'm gessoing a canvas as we speak. and am going to try something like this. Just a question though.. How will you seal this canvas( with oil pastels on it) before you stretch and frame it? xx
Thank you so much for your kind words, they are very encouraging! I can imagine that transition has been very tough, but I'm glad you're deciding to press onward! If you've gotten there before, you can do it again : ) When I use oil pastels I will seal them with a spray on fixative that I get off amazon (any brand will do)
I have to say that perhaps Karen you might find some inspiration to create a piece of art perhaps as a gift to a friend either ask what their favorite colours are or see if they have a room in mind where they might hang something maybe get a mood board going. They are always so inspiring and help me to focus down my sporadic brain. Anyway the idea here is to not think about what YOU want to paint. I'm so absolutely indecisive and cautious that I can never just go for it. I hyper analyse and over think it all and end up either never starting or making something that I'm not happy with. You got this! I'm currently redecorating our back door entry hall/utility room. With forest green paint and textured the whole thing as an abstract art full wall piece! It's currently all the 1 tone of forest green so came along to find someone creating a giant work!
Would like to know how your mind working !!! 😃 wish I could do this, but whatever I tried I finish in what I called now, my style. 🤷🏼♀️ thank you for those nice video ! Your are only working with house painting ?
Hi sir found this very interesting , I must confess at about a little under a third of the way through when the blue was still present I had a bit of a deja vu moment when I thought my god this could be a work by Turner . But with respect to your good self I fully understand your need to press on , I’ve been there myself on numerous occasions . I did notice you were working on an unstretched canvas , is this a particular preference? . And what advantages to feel it gives you. . Best wishes and kind regards. 😀👍👍👍
Thank you for your kind words : ) I'll work on unstretched canvas only for logistical reasons, like ease of storage after it's finished, no advantage or disadvantage during the painting process : )
I meant to ask you, do use acrylics cheaper acrylics, like Liquitex Basics? I can't afford professional acrylics, but the colors kinda suck and I don't know how to make them look better on canvas. I swear, if I used basic colors in pint size from Hardware Stores, the colors would look more professional. Thank you so much for your time!!!
I use cheap, off brand paints (liquitex basics now and again) , a downside is color range yep. I've never used professional paints, I don't have a need for them currently : )
@@AddiArts thank you so much for letting me know that. You are an amazing artist and whether your use professional paints or cheaper acrylics~~~it's the artist that creates the masterpiece~~not the paint. All the best, keep going young man, you will only get better each day!! Warm greetings!!

I have also made the decision to use house paint. It’s cheaper and I like the fact that it’s in a can.
Honestly I thought of doing that also due to the fact that the cost of paints in the Acrylic- painter-world is - insanely expensive !
We gotta get creative with resources !

What app are you using to edit/ make decisions on the progress of paintings?
I just take a picture with my iphone and use the edit button when looking at a photo
You are an artist.
Thank you that is very kind : )
Wont house paint crack ?
I've never had it crack!
What app do you use on your phone to edit photos and draw. Change colours etc
Its just the picture editing that comes default with iphones

maybe 2 hours?
