this is definitely proof that bag is an S tier item, not even breaking trees and it gives you insane value especially with those lures. god tier run nice job man
I actually prefer going turrets with cryptid because you get so many trees. The bonus for keeping trees alive is still awesome especially on early waves but once my luck gets high enough and I get my pocket factory it's time to start converting all those trees into turrets and crates. The build ends up being a more powerful version of Explorer with turrets and mines.
Just got my platinum trophy for the game, and beat it on danger 5 with each character. I used your charcter tier list to beat it in the best order and used each charcter's guide for an idea on how to beat it with everyone. Crypitd was my last potato to win with. Thank you for the help.
Been watching a bunch of your class guides, super helpful! I like the conversation that's persisted through your vids about youtube's video naming quirks. Click bait sounding title wasn't clickbait here though ;)
have you considered doing endless runs? You build brotatoes so well I always wonder how far some of these busted builds can go. Keep up the great work, your vids are awaesome !!
Honestly I opted to bust trees as Cryptic with a luck build and that was rather insane. I hit on like 5 +Trees early, which I curved into well by focusing on luck. The massive items is just too insane, and you'll always have 2-4 trees you didn't get when you have that many trees popping up. Perhaps not as intended, but it was also one of my strongest runs. Luck luck.
@Pineapal perhaps, though killing trees also drops materials. And if you get a ton of luck each tree has a good chance of dropping an item. Sell items your build doesn't use
Got my ass handed to me in the first 20 or so runs, only making it to Round 10 or so! Just did a D5 clear though, stacked Armour more than usual, made it much easier.
Turrets don’t target trees when playing as cryptic, meaning you can start with screwdriver for the shop tag, then pick up pocket factory when the material gains start to drop off. Being able to have 20+ turrets on field with a focus on engineering is silly.
I really like pocket factory on cryptid. You can choose whether or not you want to use it on individual waves. It's nice for the more difficult elite/horde waves, and just in general later in the run as the tree economy falls off.
I did my first D5 run with Cryptid with the Ghost Axe. I wanted to use Ethereal weapons because of the dodge synergy and it went pretty well, I won on first try which happens pretty rarely for me and I ended up with about +280% damage from my Ghost Axes :D I wasn't able to kill the first elite, but the ones after that and the bosses were down in seconds.
Stick is a good choice. I also prefer Thief Dagger to Claw for the extra money. Claw is a terrible weapon early on because it just doesn't hit hard enough. Later in the game when you have good crit and attack speed it's very strong, but if you're not doing Endless you should probably just use Thief Daggers if you want a Precise weapon. The dodge on Claw _(from the unarmed synergy bonus)_ is nice, but not necessary early, so again, may as well just go Thief Dagger. Stick is the same idea, just combat focused instead of economy focused, so probably better for just finishing level 20. One thing I do like with Cryptid is to break all the trees late in the run if you have a lot of luck _(don't break them too early in the wave or you might not have enough healing)._ Getting 12 materials isn't that exciting later on, whereas getting 3 or 4 crates is potentially hundreds of materials worth of items, particularly if you have Recycling Machine. Those materials don't count for exp, though. You can also go anti-Cryptid and get some engineering with Pocket Factory; it's not good, but it's cute.
The lategame tree tech is pretty cool honestly, you're right that that will be worth more money overall, and levels come much slower late game so losing the xp isn't a big deal. Thief dagger is also a solid weapon for sure!
@@Cephalopocalypse I don't think thief dagger is underwhelming, yesterday I did a danger 5 thief dagger run with Cryptid and today I did a run with speedy. In the beginning I'm a bit behind the curve but once I start earning money from the daggers I have an easy game. Think I killed the last 2 bosses within 20 or 30 secs with Speedy.
with high luck and 75 materials per crate i would have chopped those tree for sure, you also had recycling factory, this could have been even more insane if not capped at 20
@@Cephalopocalypse will you do another in-depth video about lesser-known / hidden mechanics? things like first 5 levels of shop are guaranteed 2 weapons per roll... seem rather important in general.
Nice build :) Until this video, I didn't realize that trees always die after 8 hits, i.e., I thought the Lumberjack Shirt became useless if your damage was high enough. TIL EDIT: at 35:17, you seemingly kill a tree in one hit. Am I mistaken? :o Maybe crits kill trees in one hit?
trees have health like everything else. While trees always die after 8 hits, no matter their health, you can also just kill them. They gain 5 health per wave and max out at 110 health on wave 20. So a 280+ damage crit is just going to annihilate a tree at any point in the game. The 8 hits thing is more just so pacifists and other builds with no damage can still kill trees.
Yep like Timmie said the 8 hits thing is just a failsafe. Lumberjack shirt can still be good even on high damage builds just to remove it from the pool or allow turrets/mines/burning effects etc to clear trees for you though!
i just did a danger 5 with cryptid, used pruner as my weapon + a lot of luck for consumable healing and was lucky enough to get two obliterators (lvl 3 and 4) so actually i managed to kill both bosses :D
With so much luck and three bags wouldn't it make sense to harvest some of the trees? It would get you a lot of extra resources and items. Far more than the 12 for leaving them up.
I'm confused why it was a choice between the claw and sticks, you unlock claw from winning this run so it's a bit useless as a suggestion...and ghost weapons have natural dodge, building 5 flints and one axe will secure you all the damage you need, start transitioning to 6 axes after you've hit 100 AS, then you can just build for surviving, hit that 70% dodge cap quicker, and you can get some serious AS by the end of a round.
You can win the run at any difficulty for the unlock - lots of people unlock the item before playing the character on danger 5. Ethereal weapons can work on this character since it's very strong, but are pretty weak weapons overall so not something I would recommend for a guide.
Sticks actually level quite badly, because while it is true you get a higher multiplier for additional sticks, they are very much balanced around that. Going from common to rare, sticks don't actually do ANY more base damage, they just get the synergy multiplier increase, and going from epic to legendary, a stick (Assuming 5 other sticks) only gets 18 more DPS. This is about the same as most other serious melee weapons (i.e: not support, and I haven't run the math on the precise melee weapons), and MUCH MUCH worse than going from an epic to a legendary fist, for example (60 dps). Sticks fall off hard in the late game BECAUSE they level so poorly. Early game, they just blow everything out of the water. (6 common sticks do about 26 dps each, and the runner up in melee is the lance with less than 16 per lance). With sticks, I find I end up with 6 legendaries most of the time anyways, and I just focus far more on items early game. I still TAKE sticks, but I don't lock coffee to buy it later.
Great points, thanks for doing the math! Sticks do at least cost much less than (most) other weapons, so that's probably one reason you typically end up with legendary versions. The dps increase per material of a weapon is something I haven't really thought about until just now, but could be worth considering. Cool post!
Ok seriously dude, how many materials do you need to be able to purchase that obvious horseshoe up your ass. Never seen anyone get shops like this. But as always, thx for the assist.

I just tried that and died as soon as I bought pocket factory haha

I’d like to think the cryptid picked up the fallen limbs of his tree brethren to murder them aliens in this run!
Exactly! Mess with the tree, you get the.... beak, or whatever it is cryptid has
Surely mess with the tree and you sget the stick?
Cryptid? More like CRIT-tid... I’ll be here daily

I would have definitely picked up the cape because of the Retromation’s Hoddie which would’ve been 40% attack speed as well at around minute 30:00
Thanks for the advice!! I finally got to finish my Danger 5 run with this build
Awesome run, well played :D

I randomly stumbled across brotato and man I love it.
cryptid is such a fun run. like glutton or mutant, or one armed with lightning shiv
Thanks for the Sticks tip. Made it pretty trivial. I was melting Elites.

Ok that build turned out absolutely mad.... The items you pulled were a perfect storm wtf xD
I just had an insane farmer run. Made it to wave 59. Lost on 60. Had almost 4k harvesting at wave 19

Thief dagger seems pretty nuts with Cryptid. The materials gained from critical is clutch for negating the purchasing problems.
I did D5 on cryptid today just essentially playing a pacifist run with hands. He was my 2nd D5 win!

Modded classes, endless mode, challenge runs, other games in the genre. Brotato is really deep though so there's a lot of stuff left to explore!
