I love this movie. Caught it on TV once and it just became a fav.
The beginning soprano oprah singer is actually my grandma Fumiko Ramirez! She kept her identity hidden cause she didn't wanter parents to know she was in the entertainment industry.
You knew her before?
Man, this movie is beautiful beyond words.
I also happened to see this film on TV years ago... probably around seven or eight years ago, and I was flabbergasted. The acting, the directing, the scenery (art direction), and original score were all simply too lovely to forget. I've been wanting to see it again and have been waiting for a Blu-ray release, yet I doubt it'll happen anytime soon. It's a shame
Hi dear Timothy,
There are beautiful colors in the superb arrangement of Liberace on this composition by Irving Berlin. Your delicate interpretation makes you want to travel to the land of the rising sun. Congratulations and thank you for this magnificent moment of piano, and very nice weekend to you.

Phil
Have always loved this movie! So many great performances! A beautiful but sad movie!
I love this movie and this song.
Loved this movie and song. One of my all time favorites.
I really love this song since I was young till this day!
Finding this song here has refreshed my memory of the some words that I had forgotten as you can see in my attempts to sing the song.
Thank you very much indeed!
Best wishes,
Nancy
Wonderful 👏👏👏👏👏👏wonderful 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Un excellent film qui mériterait une diffusion en DVD, en France. Les musiques de Irving Berlin et de Franz Waxman font merveille.
je suis plainement d'accord
This such a beautiful song. I almost cried. Such a beautiful country Japan. It was tragic we went to war against her.
Wow! Saw this film on the great screen of the Radio City Music Hall. The film was awesome and the score by Franz Waxman. Very emotional story about racism in the armed services.
Joshua Logan's direction and Franz Waxman's original score it's just wonderful and superb and outstanding ⭐👏💯🙏💯😁🌜🎊🌜🌆🙏🤌💯😷🤠🎥🍿 R.I.P. Joshua Logan & Franz Waxman & Willam Goetz & M.A. Merrick, Warner Bros's legendary sound department head.
I CRY EVERYTIME I SEE THIS LOVE STORY SO SAD.
My grandpa George was one of Marlon Brando’s stand ins for this movie! He was stationed in Japan at the time they filmed the movie and needed someone who looked like Brando to do some of the “background scenes”. You can see my grandpa walking off the bridge with a woman in this trailer as an extra too. Sadly, they didn’t credit any of the military personnel who were extras or stand ins, but we got some BTS pics of Brando that only my family has :)
Filmed on location in 1957. Wonder of all those beautiful location have been preserved.
Lovely
@misstiff823 Yes, it was refreshing to see a movie about clashing cultures, that told the truth from all sides; a wonderful film with a terribly sad ending
Ah.. the oldies. Where dramatic music was necessary in any case.
Saw this movie a number of years ago
I love this song and Irving Berlin is one of my favorite songwriters.
I wrote a song about my Japanese girl friend titled SACHIKO. Check
it out on UA-cam.
Thank you for the memories and the post.
The music score is majestic like the Mount Fuji.
@ ishimats
Thanks 4 this. Can u post the whole movie? I'm dying to see it full-length. Its so hard to find online.
First old man River, Second Sayonara.
Ricardo Montelban as Nakamura - lol, wonder how stuff like that happened back in those days.
1957.
Recordando a Mr Joshua Logan
If interested, please watch "Dinner With Marlon", a film about Marlon Brando and Truman Capote's real life meeting in Kyoto, Japan during the making of "Sayonara".
