No issues with the clip for me, seems like the best value knife I’ve gotten this year 👍🏽 bestech should make one more premium with a 3D milled and rounded clip. I think it would look better

Soo I just got mine in today and I really like it, you are making great points. It really is an awesome knife. As for the clip I have smaller hands and it doesn’t seem to bother me as much kinda like Kara. Great vid. And also congrats to you both on the 200k. It’s extra annoying because there seems to be no clear reason why they did that. Shame because it’s a good design otherwise. Definitely an attractive knife especially with the axis lock.
I replaced my clip with a Civivi ti black one. No issues.
I loveeeee the look of this knife and the satin finish on the blade. Definitely my type of blade shape and I need another axis lock. Hoping that clip isn't gonna piss me off like squeezing a bag of wasps.

As soon as I saw how high that clip was I already new what the problem was going to be. I hate when they do that almost every knife I’ve tested that had a clip at the top killed my hand

I venture to guess, the clip placement was a bad idea in an attempt to be parsimonious with hardware because the clip screws seem to hold the back spacer as well. So to avoid an extra screw, ironically on the lock side, they bungled up the ergonomics beyond belief. You can see the extra screw on the show side compared to the lock side where the clip was placed.
On this very knife d2 is great, measured it at factory where i work...64 hrc
I am interested in this knife. I have ground some of the clip off on other knives, and they were a little better to work with,

Looks like a good solid budget knife, to bad about the clip, this tends to happen when a company offsets the clip instead of having it dead center. Especially near the top. Bestech have been releasing some interesting knives as of late along with great OEM work. Left handed would have the same issue if the clip was reversible but no lefty love on this one, too bad because an axis style lock is very lefty friendly. Thanks for the look see and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable
That a great design, love the blade shape. I’d get one of those $12 Civivi Titanium clips for that. Looks like the same pattern.

Initial impressions. It's the Bestech (QSP) Penguin with crossbar lock.
Facts
Any knife maker that doesn't try to make an effort for folks who are left handed is a knife company I would avoid. That just me personally (yes I'm a dirty lefty 😉). I wish Bestech made reverse carry, I do have a Penguin, and I had to route the left scale and drill/tap for hardware.

That 2 screw mount on the clip looks awfully close to the Civivi clip. Maybe try putting on the Civivi milled Ti clip? That clip actually fit my Benchmade Auto Fact as well (just needed slightly longer screws.

Thank you for the review! I have the blue micarta/black blade. The knife looks awesome. But the clip digs into my hand too. Kinda bummed, but I’m gonna carry it for a while and see how it goes.

Yes that clip seems mounted in a odd spot & the pan head screws are kinda dumb to really cool knife design hopefully Bestech will correct it on a V2 I think a nice minimalistic wire clip centered up on that handle would do this knife some serious justice.

Idk I have what I would consider smaller hands and had the EXACT same problem just as you described with the clip.
I had a knife that had that belt clip on the handle. I had too take it off. Mine hurt the hand too. 🤷♀️🇬🇧

Hey Jared, I have a Bestech Arctic I bought at the beginning of the year. It's my first D2 knife but the thing is, it gets dull super fast. I dunno if it's just my knife or if all Bestech D2 is like that. Could you maybe do an update on the steel in a while? I'm curious about the steel. Thanks. Congratulations on the 200K subscribers, you guys have worked hard and earned it.
Thank you! What angle are you Sharpening it at, it might need a couple Sharpenings to get into good steel if the heat treatment is not bad, it might of just had some burnt edge. But lowering your angle will increase your edge retention

@@tiaanrhode7746 you could try lowering it a bit more, also make sure your doing a good burr removal because that can be a huge thing as far as edge retention goes, also keep it around a medium grit, and make sure to use diamonds to sharpen

@tiaanrhode for diamond stones in your price range. 55 bucks will get you a 300, 600, 1200 grit Ultra sharp diamond plates in the 2x6 inch size on Amazon. The 300 is a tad on the fine side for really reprofiling but it will get you buy its just not going to be the fastest cutting stone. That's the best value in diamond plates on the market and quality diamond plates at that.
I just got in a Rike 1902. For $160 it’s amazing.
The problem isn't the pocket clip, it's that the knife is too small for a pocket clip. Somehow the knife manufacturers got the idea that a 3 to 3.5" blade is a full size knife and therefore must have a pocket clip, and that it must be deep carry and it MUST be tip up, if it's to get good reviews. When in reality this knife is small enough to carry in your pocket like your dad/grandfather carried their Old Timer stockman.

Cross bar locks are nice until you hit the butte of the knife on something and it comes down on you 😮. Have you ever had this happen Jared?

I agree the pocket clip is the only negative for me. If they would have included a lanyard hole the pocket clip wouldn't be an issue.

If they had only done a titanium milled clip like on the tonic it would have been much better in hand and in looks

It is a shame when I pocket clip is having such an impact on the ergo’s of a knife.
Seem like the chose to line up the mounting location with the back spacer, which is fine, but extend the back spacer some to make the PC land in a good spot.
It can be detrimental for sure, of course I want a Clip and I don't mind feeling it but this is way past uncomfortable
Funny I mentioned this one to you on IG today and here you are dropping the video tonight. I have the green micarta/stonewash. To me these look like a smaller/budget Vero Axon with an axis lock. Gonna have to give it a good squeeze and see if the clip bothers me, but I didn't notice it at first.
I'm going to try and find something to replace it, it's a great knife but the clip kills it for me

That clip is a serious design flaw. They should have made it in the middle and reversible. What a shame!! That's a great looking knife.
Y'all know u can order custom made blades for any knife u own, also with the steel you want also. It's what I do, buy a nice cheap 35 dollar knife with good handle and crappy d2 steel, send in the blade and a bar of Amazon prime steel u want bam ur good lol

Another problem is the name. Heaven forbid one needed to use it in self defense, the prosecuting attorney would no doubt latch onto the fact that you were carrying a “Slasher”.

Does Bestech produce an above average D2 blade? I’m real leery about D2. Jarod or anyone offer me some insight on why or why not to own a D2 EDC blade?
As long as it isnt cpmd2 you can be quite clear that it isnt really a good steel. The toughness is horrible. Yes the edge retention is pretty good, but the grain structure is big so bad edge stability and not very easy to sharpen. Also its not corrosion resistant. 14c28n for example has 6 times the toughness of d2, almost the same edge retention, very good corrosion resistance, very fine grain structure so good edge stability so easy to sharpen and holds a wickedly sharp edge. Yes american made d2 used to be considered a lot better compared to Chinese d2, but the truth is I would just avoid it completely.
