Nice piece Darwin. Gainesville pride. When I looked up at the timing of this video while I was putting in this comment, it surprised me that it was seven years ago you posted this youtube video. It makes me wonder if you are still in Gainesville and what you are doing these days. I was a 352'er for 27 years and coincidentally, I moved after all that time almost exactly seven years ago. And check this out......I moved to southeast Asia. That's been a very pleasant experience. Needless to say, a LOT different than the old area code. Actually, no more area code. 🙂 There's been some changes in Gainesville over these last years. I still follow along with what is going on around town. Hope things are going well for you.
As a retired government employee, I was compelled to travel and live in places across the US! I would say Gainesville, Florida was my best experience!!! Thanks for sharing 👍
I’m old enough to be your Grandmother, and was born and raised here too. Too bad you missed Louis’ Lunch, Piccadilly Cafeteria. Hippodrome used to be the main Post Office. The Segal building used to house the Museum and a movie theater. The duck pond had a lot of ducks, and was beautiful dressed up at Christmas. It is wonderful that the beautiful old homes are renovated to Bed and Breakfasts❤️ My Grandmother, Mother and Aunt worked at JJ FINLEY elementary as cooks, and I was actually named after the head of the lunchroom Margaret Watkins. We had the best meals, actually made from scratch❤️. Then there was Robinsons Grocery, where Mr Robinson always pulled out one of the jars of penny candy, to let us have some. Gainesville is an awesome place, nice to see you think so too! Take care❤️
I really miss that plaza that was on the corner of 13th and university that had the pizza place and hair salon 😭 both were my favorite thing on the weekend
I am so glad my daughter is moving there for graduate school. I hope she loves it. I lived in Florida for two years when I was young and I was so homesick for Tennessee, my momma really. And I’m going to be visiting her often. So I might see you at Publix. God bless, Leslye
Hi there! My husband and I moved here two years ago. We opened Pizzazz Piercing and Tattoo on N Main St. We adore this city. We're very grateful for our clients and how much Gainesville folks came out to support us.
Im a GHS 1992 graduate...still proud of my hometown. Seen its changes over the years. Lived there from 1989-2016 off an on...ALWAYS a Florida Gator and always love Gainesville! It launched my music career as well! DJ Spice...
I lived in Gainesville FL for 18 years until 2 years ago. I agree with this video. But its just become so overcrowded, no one can drive...the list goes on. But the list for why I miss G'ville is long too. Thanks for your video. It made me a bit home sick. ♥
Hey, I am here now and need to know about the springs that are closest and maybe a pool to swim in, and I would love to know about natural food restaurants.
Gainesville my second home I still prefer Hallandale beach Florida more just beautiful city with growing businesses and communities and a good nightlife.
I have lived in Florida for over 15 years and have visited about 100 different Publix and this is the most Ghetto looking Publix I have ever seen. 0:50...Looks more like a Winn Dixie.
It is a little different but not too bad. The plaza itself has seen better days. They even still have the Aprons samples unlike the Publix at the Esplanade. (That one has another Publix about a quarter mile away and they both seem entirelt different from each other.)
Mac's drive thru and the Publix she was at are pretty much on the east side or at least the border. They are off Main Street and are sort of northeast of the Pleasant Street neighborhood.
Lmao @ 2:48!! That dude all over the Ville! Mans used to come into Best Buy all the time! Ive even seen him at publix just blastin music and rockin out. Dude got jumped a little bit ago for wearing a rag. Hope he's doing well.
there is a guy that has been running around gainesville for decades. do you know who he is? he was very nice and would wave when I saw him back in the 90s.
Nice video but one restaurant you missed because you probably don't remember it... but this one was one of the real back bone on the city ... MOM'S KITCHEN...
Awesome video! I only lived there for 3 years n it's a beautiful place. Its a shame that's it's going to shit. P.S. love that you had the dancing guy in the video, love that guy haha.
@@janedoe7205 it's gone to shit because it's loosing it's small town feel. The utility company GRU is criminal. The town is practically owned by the college. Without a degree it sucks to work there. Hi, im (20yo girl) visting a friend of mine at uf at the very beginning of january, what would u recommend? (Specially not having a car, and not being american lol) also for me to do while shes in class
Thanks! Good job. I wish it were longer. It looks like you drive a Subaru so you must be kind of smart LOL! This is a big question but if you could do a comparison between let’s say Jacksonville Saint Augustine Niceville Fort Lauderdale I’m guessing you would still prefer Gainesville but why other than the fact that it’s probably the most familiar to you? Is there a particularly big mosquito problem in Gainesville? What are the better and/or safer neighborhoods in Gainesville? Thanks!
EzE Eze there is a very big mosquito problem in gville in the summer we had hundreds and throughout the year there’s a bunch too. So many bugs it’s so shitty
You wish the video was longer? That's funny because she already put the whole damn city in the video. It ain't like there is much else to do in that backward as town then the few minutes of what she showed.
Damn girlie I love your video I was born in Gainesville in 89 I live in Keystone which obviously if you are from Gainesville you know it's about 30 minutes out great video though go Gators, and I agree the new traffic patterns and road work are horrible!!!! I'll share this video for yu also... keep it up and AGAIN GOOOOOOO GAAATTTOOORRSSS!!!!!!! CHOMP CHOMP 🐊🐊🐊🐊🐊🐊🐊🐊

When I think of Gainesville I think of Mama Lo's, Spectrum Disco, Sun Bank, Cafe Garden's, Down to Earth and the Granary, I am guessing you have no clue what those are. Maybe...just maybe you knew who Mama Lo (Lorine) was, since she was one of the most notorious, well respected and well loved figures in Gainesville That is the real Gainesville to me. 💗🙏🌺

Well done young lady!!! I use to be the Store Manager at Dillard's at the Oaks Mall back in 2004-2006, I miss that town and the community.
As a #407 area code myself, laughed at "the brutal" 😂

Must be Main Street Publix
2:46 my boy DJ Ralph bustin a move
You only showed the west side of town, you should do a video of the east side of Gainesville. Now that's the real Gainesville.
Mac's drive thru and the Publix she was at are pretty much on the east side or at least the border. They are off Main Street and are sort of northeast of the Pleasant Street neighborhood.
Shit she had Raffy on there, she's certified Gainevillain
