    I can't wait till you get your hands on a SU-X and compare with SU-10 and JC Acoustics.

    You should do a poll with your audience how many prefer separates to combined products. Would be interesting to see. I know which camp I'm in :)

      There's 8 BILION people on earth now! It's so much more crowded than it was 50 or 60 years ago. Lots of buyers, lots of manufacturers. And, China is hell-bent on world domination. Buy locally!

    Interesting product. Good review!
    Yes, 30,000 ųF in a DAC power supply is indeed a lot.
    My linear power supply for my amplifier has 40,000 ųF (ELNA) and that box is at least twice the size.

    • @iiWiReviews
      @iiWiReviews  2 місяці тому +2

      That's very respectable. Your power amp uses higher voltage capacitors to offer more power that speakers neee. That makes them bigger and more expensive for the same capacitance value.

    • @marcusbrsp
      @marcusbrsp 2 місяці тому

      @@iiWiReviews yes, I think you are right. That would make a lot of sense. In my power supply there are four 50V capacitors packing 10,000 ųF each.

    You should review the Musical Paradise MP-DX. Not any reviews in English yet at UA-cam. A tube dac with upgradeable tubes, caps and clock! And an inbuilt Raspberry Pi can be used as a streamer.

    The life of an electrolytic capacitors relates to the operating temperature. Generally, there are two different capacitor grades, standard +85°C and extra-long life +125°C. So, the life of the equipment is influenced by the internal temperature within the enclosure. The internal image shows a bank of electrolytic capacitors near the heatsink of the linear voltage regulator. These parts will see a temperature rise due to the load current drawn by the DAC circuitry. There are groups of capacitors near the heatsinks for the headphone amplifier (4-off Texas Instruments TPA6120A chips). This is a current-feedback AB amplifier and the heatsink will get hot. The temperature rise is determined by the headphone loading and at normal level should be okay. I suspect the optional fan is for the user who wish to run the full 7500mW output.

    • @iiWiReviews
      @iiWiReviews  2 місяці тому

      Some additional info on top of your analysis is that unit gets pretty hot without any load too. I don't have any information on this but it seems that amp is biased to class A generously. This appears to be a trend among most headphone amps lately.

    • @user-mu2dp9hg4o
      @user-mu2dp9hg4o 2 місяці тому +1

      @@iiWiReviews The TPA6120A amplifier chip has a fixed bias for the class AB output stage. The nominal standing current is 15mA per amplifier. However, the UDP-6P uses 4 of these amplifier chips and this accounts for an internal power dissipation of 3.6W (@±15Vdc supply). The hotspots on the outer surface of the case can be used to locate the source of the heat and thereby pinpoint the internal power dissipation. I suspect it is the voltage regulation and /or the main transformer.
      Interestingly Texas Instruments recommend an output resistor (39.2 Ohms) for the amplifier. This is required to avoid stability problems with capacitive loads (for example, the inherent capacitance in a pair of headphones). So, this might influence the audio performance with low impedance headphones.

    Sounds like a great deal if you're after both a DAC and a headphone amp. But as I hardly ever listen on headphones, it would only be for me if I didn't have a Gustard R26. BTW, would you be able to say how the DAC section of the UDP-6P compares with the Gustard?

    • @iiWiReviews
      @iiWiReviews  2 місяці тому +2

      Gustard R26 has bigger soundstage and more full-bodied tonality. This one compares equally to SU-10 that is my reference bellow 1000. But R26 is still my reference bellow 2000 that hasn't been beaten since I reviewed it.

    How does it compare to Aune S9C ? I know different class of Dac/Amp but price to performance how do they stack up ?

    • @iiWiReviews
      @iiWiReviews  2 місяці тому +4

      S9c is good but not as revealing, rich, and airy as this one. It sounds very clean and dynamic but tonally more simple if that makes sense.
      If this is over the budget, take a look at Rose Technics RT5000 too.

      @@iiWiReviews Thank you for sharing your experiences with both Dac/Amps
      I do understand the tonal gap that occurs when u step up into the next price category
      My budget is between 600-900 all in for a Dac/Amp and one of the WiiM streamers, so more realistically looking at the Aune and the RT5000

    • @iiWiReviews
      @iiWiReviews  2 місяці тому

      RME has great EQ capabilities if that's something you need. As for the sound quality, J.C Acoustics is a clear winner with more power, better detail retrieval, and wider soundstage.
